I have used many browers, but I am been most pleased by IE8. I've been using it since beta, and it's incredibly fast. Many of my friends, long time FF users have begun to migrate to the awesome power of IE8.

Kaspersky is your best option. Free services suck, I have people tell me all the time how they have no problems, yet I see probably 40 computers a week come in with AVG or Avast or such on there with various virus related issues. Oddly enough, Windows Update has been doing a pretty good job on getting rid of some widespread attacks lately, i.e. all the fake AV/AS software.

X-Box Live, is not a comparrison. That's software built for a propritary console, so that I can understand, and accept. If you don't like X-Box Live, go get a Playstation with PSN or something. A PC has no OS provided game center, so there should be choice. Even Microsoft didn't make their service a hassle, GFW Live is nice, and stays out of the way. Sure it's not as good as X-Box Live yet, but it's doing quite well. At least it only runs when I'm running the game, and it makes sense.

Though I have no trouble with Microsoft, and feel that aside from it's delay and trouble launching Vista so late, they've done well (They should have stuck with XP for a much shorter period of time, less people get too attached). I understand your talk on this subject. I hate most monopolies, with the exception of the OS, which should be standardized. But I loathe Steam, the fact that I have to run it anytime I want to play a game (DoWII), that even runs the GFW system for pre

Windows Seven does look to be incredible. They also have the UI being overhauled a little more than has been shown though I believe. As they have the guy who did Adobe Lightroom working on it. Given that as of milestone 1 or 2 they already had it running and using less then 512MB of RAM. Seven (interlaced with Windows Cloud), is going to bring Windows back, and ensure Microsoft dominance of the OS realm. Hopefully banishing Mac forever (course cancer might do that). Linux is fine thou

I have a wierd issue where whenever the Dread Lords appear, the game crashes. Always and without exception. I can make new games, play for any length of time, resume autosave prior to Dread Lords, etc, and without fail it will crash.

I have an issue with Galactic Civilizations II (I have all expansions, recently purchased). Anytime I play and the Dread Lords appear, the next turn the game crashes. I have the latest version, and I have all updated drivers and DirectX versions. So I am at a loss as to what causes this. I hope it gets fixed in Version 2.0, but I was curious as to how common this issue was. I am running: Intel Xeon E3110 (3.0GHZ Dual Core, 6mb cache, 1333mhz fsb) nVidia 9800 GTX (512MB

From what I've seen/heard of Windows 7 it looks like it is going to be most impressive. Even if it is just a heavily refined version of Vista with a new UI and features, it'll be pretty impressive. I like Vista quite a bit, I run x64 and don't have any issues out of the OS. Vista just got some bad PR, which stuck with it. Most people who don't like it are just afraid of change. I also hope they keep the name, 7 is a fantastic number.

It's about time Microsoft started to push out some ads. I guess they wanted to wait for Service Pack 1 to iron out Vista's few issues. Those confused (read; fearful of change), should look into http://www.mojaveexperiment.com it's an interesting find.

Reply to Vista? in PC Gaming

Vista x64 works like a dream. Thanks to Microsoft's Certified for Vista program, 64-bit is going mainstream. So long as you have internet, Windows will find just about any driver. Example, Linksys states that they do not have 64-bit Drivers for their PCI wireless-G adapater. I plugged in the ethernet cord, and Windows gave me generic Broadcom wireless drivers, after activating the card Windows did an update and found...Linksys Wireless-G PCI drivers. Pretty impressive I have to say.<br

Kaspersky, NOD, and BitDefender are pretty good. The new version of Norton, and currently Trend Micro are pretty good. but I cannot tell you how many people I've seen with good AVG protection, that have lots of viruses. That program is free for a reason. Same with Avast. Free is only free, if your time is worth nothing. Personally I use Kaspersky, for constant updates, and an unobtrusive approach. (tiny memory footprint, and good performance). But I used to use BitDefender, wh

Wow, people are complaining because a company doesn't want to make a shitty port? They build this for consoles, it would not be very good on PC. We don't want ports, because they never look or play as good off their primary system. Ports are hurting the market, but filling their pockets. For 2K not to do this, shows some actual desire to make good games. And your whining about it? Go buy a console if you want to play it, it's a fun game. But it's not the same as Civilization. It's much

Ehh, most games work on Vista with little trouble. I have yet to find one I could not run, even in 64-bit. My roomates and I, all run 64-bit Vista (Home Premium through Ultimate), and have had times where we have gone back and played Dungeon Siege, Diablo, Diablo 2, and other various old titles. For the most part, if it was programed well to begin with, Vista can run it. If it was programed poorly than it will have trouble. Note, some games (Dungeon Siege), claim th

Many people who even complain about Vista admit that 64-bit Vista is a different animal entirely. It even seems to make up drivers. Just to test it, I plugged a Linksys Wireless card into a 64-bit system, Linksys claims they have no drivers for it, Vista installed it as a generic Broadcom wireless device, and the first Windows update found Linksys 64-bit wireless drivers. And of course programs that can use it, can take huge advantage of the 64-bit capabilities. And the perfor

Kaspersky is by far the nicest in terms of staying out of the way and protecting the system. It finds even the most minor of infections the moment they happen. And even when running a scan is hardly noticable. But so long as your careful, programs like that should almost never need to run. I've had nothing but the most minor adware in the last eight years or so. A hint, when a pop up says, click here to scan your computer for repairs. Don't.

It depends on your play style, I am usually very reliant on capitals. Scouts are about the only frigate I build (plus colonizer for asteroids) early game. I usually go either Akkan/Mothership out of the gate, followed by a Kol/Radiance, and then a Sova/Halcyon. I find this very hard to do with Vasari, their capitals just don't seem to have fleet stopping power. If you get a raging economy quickly and expand as fast as you can, you can stop pretty large frigate fleets if you po

I'm hoping this feeling I have, is the feeling that an update is near. The updates are generally so good that it makes the wait bearable, almost. xD I don't remember, but you guys got past the 5 caps, 5 frigates, 4 cruisers limits right? Hopfully we'll have like 8 caps (Heavy Battleship (Well balanced warship), Light Battleship (agile and resourceful warship), Heavy Carrier (Front line orientated carrier(more guns less fighters, but still a carrier), Super Carrier (enormous fighter/bomber covera

Also though Swiss Knight, The Germans were still making some of the best tanks in the world late war even when they had become economically crippled. So roles had reversed, but German Engineering is still a little better. Some of the strikecraft the Germans were working on would take the Russians nearly 50+ years to get into the sky. The Su-47 comes to mind here. And Sparda, in World War II the German's unit's were far more elite and agile than the Allied forces. The Allies did the mas

Excellent, The Greater German Reich will soon fill the skies! Seriously though, I love all your guys updates, just wish they happened more often. Also, I'm sure you can't give many details. But have you found a way to increase the number of ships? Not physical amounts, but the limit on say 5 different capitals, or 4 different cruisers?
