The problem is also... you would have to build them in every system, not just one. If you only heavily fortify one system then an attacking fleet can simply bypass that with minimal losses and ravage all your undefended systems instead.

Dunno i think the service is called "totallygames" or something like that ? Dunno if that s Stardock or an intermediate. But it's a save guess that SD/IC will get "more" from it than from classic retail.
A few(few!) siege frigs free up your capitals from planet bombing duty and let them pursue other goals.
Not having a campaign is a concious decision, wich is perfectly viable. Sometimes it's better than having one. As much as i love Supreme Commander (especially in Multiplayer) for example, the campaign was just a quickly slapped together piece of junk. The game would have been better off without it lol. But that doesn't make Supcom a bad game. And not having a campaign certainly does not make Sins a bad game either. The contrary, it's absolutely awesome.<br/
Oh you can play a huge map in under an hour just fine. How ? Simple: 1. Select a huge map, personally i would recommend Grindstone, it's perfect for the purpose of playing a fast game. 2. Put all the 7 AI players on hard. 3. Put all the 7 AI players on the same team. 4. Start game and enjoy your "fastest" game of Sins ever!
