No bad at all. If I had to pick something to quibble over, it would be the host's comment "we could get it for free..." I think he should have chose his words more carefully. Maybe he should have said something along the lines of: Something unscrupulous people may chose to take. It is not a big point nor a sharp one but one nonetheless.
This REALLY annoyed me. "you can get the g

Well since neither the edit button works, nor does the forum automatically recognise links, here's the link again with clickable goodness: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/218-Spore

Top of my list would be a Single player campaign with a good storyline. I love the style that the intro was done in with all the artwork and moving stills and would love to see more cut scenes like that telling a rich tale. Then I would say a bit more depth, at the moment the game is pretty simple in both single and multi. This could obviously be achieved in many ways, but I think a more complex/strategic diplomacy and economy system with tech trading etc would be pretty cool.
We're looking at next week for release. This week we looked at feedback and did a lot of, ahem, play testing.
I'm glad this patch is being forged based on the experience and opinions of people who've actually played the thing rather than a bunch of kneejerk reaction posts from forum whiners.

I was getting up to 90% wondering how on earth I was ever going to get space ponies, and then I looked after one game and I had mysteriously ended up getting them. Now I just need a couple of the easy but time consuming Achievements (like kill xxx trade ships)
The single most valuable thing you should learn and commit to memory is the chart of damage vs. armor types. Alot of people don't understand how this works and it leads them to make bad decisions about which ships to build and send into battle.
I don't think memorizing a damage chart is necessary. If you have the time, go for it but reading posts and in game descriptions will give you a good enough idea about what counters what. <br

Yeah 1 media or 2 media hubs is all you need, if your opponent is going all out hubs then he won't have much money so you can just build a superior fleet and crush him before the culture does any real damage. With regards to leaving yourself undefended - scouting is your friend, if you see your opponent massing an army you can stop building trade ports and start massing a counter army, the trick is to balance it so you're always ahead economically but are still able to combat whatever
Bubble ships? Granted the Vasari are voiced by Cobra, but they don't have any trouble bubbles
I always thought the Kortul Devastator sounds like Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean.
I would venture to say that the graphics in Soase are only slightly better than those in Pax Imperia
I would respectfully disagree. BTW I don't think the dev's have ever said this is the first real time space empire game.
Thanks for all the help, guys.I think I like the "frigate factory" defense best out of these suggestions, so I'll try that one first. I am just not impressed by turrets, and hangars alone don't cut it.Later!
turrets are good for protecting those key structures like frigate factories and hangers, the trick is to build your factories and hangers in a bunch so your turrets don't need to be spread out as much and you don't need as many of them. Remember while turrets do suck
The problem I always have with vasari, at least on random maps, is that neutral extractors are almost always metal. They give a lot of metal too, so I don't know if I have the illusion of having not enough crystal or I just get a ton of metal it makes my crystal income look like crap. On top of that I always get metal planets and all my allies get crystal lol.
Maybe it's just me, but as TEC I'm always buying tons of metal and crystal, so even if the vasari player is sho

that's true actually, I had the unfortunate experience of playing against someone today who didn't leave and I had to spend 30 mins destroying his planets even though he had no hope of winning, only to get minidumped right before killing the last planet. Hide the farm was bad enough in warcraft but it would be even worse in this game where you can take 10 mins to travel from one side of the map to the other.
But I must say, sorry you wrote all this up when it's essentially worthless with the patch lolWhat? How is this info not useful still. Even if a few changes occur patch to patch, this is still an excellent resource (esp with the recordings) for new players or those that wondering how they might juice their game up a little.
yeah too bad the replays don't work with the current version though. Still a good guide.
Units that I consider more or less use

Good post, more people need to know about this. If you're vasari you need to grab those neutral extractors and take advantage of your metal/crystal 2in1 research ASAP, playing against a TEC player going trade you won't be waiting long before the credits start to roll in from selling on the black market.

Ok for those of you still saying "deal with it", here's a screenshot of the 1v1 I played today on a small random (with pirates set to inactive). Notice how the only way I can get to my enemy (or beyond my starting four planets) is going through the pirates. Needless to say I chalked up my first MP loss this game, although it was a really fun game in the end, I did manage to smuggle a coupl

Generally I've found that it's almost always better to fill out existing logistics slots with trade centers before expanding to a new world. The only time I'll expand first now is if I haven't got trade yet (early game) or if I want a specific planet for tactical reasons. With the new black market system, the return you get from building more trade centers will outweigh the return you get from expanding easily. refineries are also pretty worthless now considering their expens

I'm sure I will have stopped playing Sins long before SC2 comes out, SC2 isn't even in beta yet. For me I doubt I'll be playing Sins much once twilight of the Arnor comes out (yeah I'm waiting for the release version cause I hate betas)
A little semantical qualification. If you consider the price of the planet upgrade to be 1500 credits, (750 to buy crystal, 750 for the actual upgrade) then you make the money back in 950 seconds, or just under 16 minutes.
just under 16 mins sounds right, if the OP is right and it takes 8 mins to recover the money once it's fully populated then assuming linear pop growth you'd pretty much just double the 8 mins and take a bit of time off because you reach f
