I had a recent game where one of my close friends - I forget which race - was faring very poorly in a war. They decided that rather than lose outright, they wanted for their worlds to be placed in the care of their strongest friends - so they turned over all of their planets to me. That was a pleasant surprise indeed!

Black Hole Guuuuuuuuuuuun Wont you coooooooooome and wash awaaay the raaaain Heheh - I guess I'm not the only one that thinks of those lyrics whenever I see the name of that weapon.

Well, I've been on record on this subject before, but I'm extremely happy to hear the topic coming up again - and so soon! I would gladly pay $20 for an MP expansion, and I've got another two or three friends (minimum) that would buy it in a heartbeat as well. I avoided GC1 because of the lack of MP. I very nearly avoided GC2 for the same reason. My friends and I are supremely disappointed that we cannot match wits against each other, in

I dont want to play at higher levels where the AI gets bonuses. I want to play at intelligent where the AI plays its best without bonuses. I don't have my manual handy (I'm at work), but I believe that there are still one or two levels of difficulty above Bright where the AI is bumped up, but is still not getting any economic bonuses. I could

Yes I was disappointed to see this in the last Beta 3A changelog: "Normal and Bright AI intelligence levels made a bit easier." The reason we love GalCiv is the great AI. Please dont dumb it down! Have you noticed that there are five or six difficulty levels *above* those two? They're just trying to make the AI at thos

I don't know if you noticed, but that was an awful lot of 'Driver internal error' messages. Would seem to indicate that it might be a good idea to try downloading updates to your device drivers - video and sound would be the two best guesses (in that order).

I can't say that I've found the game too easy, except for at the easy difficulty levels, of course. But if you feel that it is, try changing your play settings. First and foremost, crank the difficulty up to 'Suicidal'. (If you think that it's too easy at *that* level, then my hat is off to you.) But even after that, you can tweak the other play settings also. Try setting the map size to 'M

I don't know why you'd bother with MP anway. The other guy will probably d/c by the first year anyway. Play it at LANs, with small groups of friends. Or just play it over the internet, with friends

anyone beside me thinking "hey, that sucks" ? impulse drive is always taking at least 9% of the hull, no matter how big? i dont really like that ... If you think about it though, that would actually make the most logical sense. Just because we shrink down lasers, mass drivers, shields, sensors, or whatever, that doesn't mean that the engine

Turn-based multiplayer??? No thanks. Keep it SP. It's more gooder. Have you tried it? I love it, particularly in a LAN setting. Even with just one friend, it works better than some people think. If each person knows the game pretty well, yo

I have no trouble winning cultural victories, and though I haven't cranked it up to a particularly difficult level, I most certainly am not running at a beginner or "terribly easy" difficulty level. The difference even between 'Normal' and 'Challenging' is significant. I had 'no trouble' winning cultural wins at Beginner and Normal, and so far

I won my last game (gigantic map, 7 enemies) without firing a shot. It took me about 5 total hours to go from one planet, to 85% coverage of the galaxy. Heh heh... can we ask what the difficulty level was?

There is a very long thread on this subject and while you bringing it up again isn't a problem it was beat to death in that thread and it has been clearly stated that it may happen but will not be a priority. I'd say that creates something of a Catch 22. If nobody new comes forward and professes an interest in MP, then I would think that the p

I apologize if this is something that has been hounded on by people (particularly pre-release). I'm among the people that decided to give the game a try after having passed on Galactic Civ 1, and I figured that there might be a bunch of folks like myself that had not been active participants in the forums that might like to express their opinions on the matter as well. After all, if more (new or 'veteran') people profess their interest in MP, I would think that it would be viewed as

'Influence pushing' is my favorite tactic. First off, I tend to try to clump my influence bases together, and as close as possible to the enemy's worlds. Having two or three of them spread out results in a 'thin' spread of your influence, which is no good. Having three or four of them practically adjacent to each other (heavily overlapping their spheres of influence) is the way to go. If

I read through a post that Frogboy put up a long while ago, in which he stated the reasons that multiplayer is not an existing feature in Galactic Civ II. It was a well thought out and well written post, and the reasons that it was not included with the initial release of the game were all valid, particularly given the price of the game. The main point that was made at the end of the post was that if enough voices were heard, then multiplayer would be considered as part of a paid expansion.<br

I personally don't feel that modifications to the combat animations should hold any kind of high-priority for the devs. Having the developers correcting known issues and making actual feature enchancements that improve the gameplay are worth more to me than them spending hundreds of man hours making the automated combat sequence 'look pretty'.

Why indeed? Posting your debug.err file would help greatly. In the absence of that... I assume that you're looking for random guesses. Have you tried updating your display drivers? Have you downloaded the most recent patch? Have you clicked your heels together three times while saying "There's no game like Galactic Civ?" </fon

Is it a class 10 world? Unless it's a small map, I wouldn' t put a manufacturing capital there at all. Even with it being only a Class 10 world, the quality of the tiles would more than justify putting a manufacturing capital there. Even with only four factories (each placed on the bonus tiles), you

That is a very well-articulated opinion. However, I must say that one of my frustrations with forums is with people that encounter display issues, random graphic glitches, sound problems, etc, and immediately post a 'WTF this game is buggy and it sucks it crashes all the time!!!' thread, without trying what many people would consider to be fairly basic troubleshooting. Particularly if other apps are encountering issues as well. I am also t

Unfortunately for us, that one is 'working as designed'. Ships and starbases get back HP only with the passage of time, and at the moment, there is not a way to send other ships to repair them (at least, not a way that I know of). Of course, one way to deal with the issue (with regards to space stations) is to make a few ships of your own, and strike their fleets before they attack your station... but I know that I would appreciate it if there was a way to repair damaged ship/bases a

I've mentioned it before in another thread, but I'll be glad to mention it whenever these 'enhancement request' threads pop up... Multiplayer! And I'm glad to hear a few other people mentioning it also. If they can come up with an expansion that includes a couple more campaigns, a few feature improvements drawn from the suggestions that the other folks have had (lots of good ones in these thr
