Remember when Brad posted about having the AI play a "no-humans" game and having each AI win approximately the same number of games? That's really hard to believe. OTOH I really don't believe there is a "worst race" because I have seen so many posts from different people saying "Why do the Drengins/Altarians/Yor suck so much?" and other people or myself saying, "Hey, that race is absolutely the most dominant in all my games!" Especially the Drengin, they have double the military and ec

The only reason I buy for raising your population is taxes. You're not going to empty your home planet with colony ships unless you build more than ten of them. That's a Large or larger universe. And I don't even staff my colonies with 500 -- I put 100 on them. Reasons: #1 -- Population locked in colony ships isn't growing or paying taxes. #2 -- My Econ capital goes on Earth. Therefore my population should stay on Earth. #3 -- Every game, I convert some colony ships to
Heck, I would appreciate if they just said what kind of resource they were mining when you clicked on an enemy starbase. I always have to zoom all the way in to see.
Hey, for fun I decided to surrender the mission where the Drengin don't build weapons on their defenders and try the alternate mission. That mission is basically the same scenario with better allies, versus the Yor. The Yor AI does not do the same stupid thing as the Drengin do. It built one defender per planet without weapons. When I blew those up with my cargo hull, it replaced them with 7-power defenders. It didn't wait for a year to pass before redesigning, either.
Not sure if this is a bug but here it is: I just started a new campaign on 'normal' difficulty with the beta installed (no mod). I just completed the third or fourth mission and there's been lots of space battles. I think I've fought 30 or 40 Drenghi Defender class ships (maybe more). I have not seen ONE shot fired back at me so far. Do the def
- Unable to name a quick save. That's kind of like complaining "Unable to name an auto save." The point of quick saving is that you can hit Ctrl-S and not have to pop a dialog or type a name. It's awesome, awesome feature.
I knew it! The next expansion's gonna have a new minor race!
Wait till you get to the final mission, where the opponent never builds a single ship! Link Sorry to spoil the end of the campaign for you, but it sort of spoils itself. However, the missions in the middle can be a lot of fun just for the way you have to plan out a strategy with weird goals and lots of starting money, ships, and tech. I'm not sorry I played the campaign, just sorry that it wasn't chall
This just happened to me too. How stupid and lame. Imagine a first-person shooter where you break into the big boss's hideout and he is standing there putting on his underpants and you shoot him, game over. I was all excited about whether to research logistics or planetary invasion first and whether to colonize all the planets or just one and then I did all that micromanaging for nothing, because instead of beating them to the punch I found out somebody drank all the punch.
I'm watching this topic because this always happens to me. It happens right after I fight a battle, for the rest of the turn. Only 4 and 6 change the zoom, the other numeric keys are fine for moving ships. If you don't have a ship selected, 4 and 6 still affect the zoom.
Has anyone else noticed that when they start a game in the campaign on Obscene or Suicidal, then hit F5 and check "Misc" under the Stats tab, the AI's intelligence is set to "Normal" or something? I can only play on Masochistic for this reason. Don't know if it's a new thing. Since everyone here knows a lot about the game, does anyone know why after a battle, using the "4" and "6" keys on the numeric keypad changes the zoom level? When you hit "4" your ship moves left and it zooms
Hey, you could probably get back to where you were in an afternoon by playing the scenarios on Cakewalk. However long it takes to research Planetary Invasion and move a transport is how long it takes to win. Heck, even on Masochistic I've won five of the eight so far by October 2225.
Hey how about setting four comps as allies with each other against me and see if I can survive. Hey, that really sounds like a fun format. I'm going to try that!
This sounds like the sort of thing that way over-funded blockbusters do. Like how King Kong would have a scene in a shop, well every single can on the shelf would be an authentic 1920s label, just so you could say "We are the kind of movie that does everything completely right." That's not really GalCiv's niche. It's more of the "Fight Club" type movie that gets the important stuff right and isn't anal about everything. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394
I never played a TBS - even the best of the best , including my fave Moo2 - presenting a constant challenge through the later stages of a long campaign. GalCiv I could do this on Gigantic Masochistic maps. Check out the "Losing" writeup on Link Sirian's Galactic Civilizations page. For the kin
Oh, is that what that half-circle over the top of the mini-map always is? Shininess? If that can be taken away it should be, I never had any idea what it meant and it screws up the colors.
I had the same experience on Masochistic, but I was jumping out of the gate and blowing up the 0-power defenders right from the start. They just kept buying them till they lost.
The Arceans would like to set the minimum speed for freighters to 3. Would you agree to vote for that? That's a great idea because then you'd have the thrill of saying yes and then betraying them.
The fact that you're paying for them is not nearly as noticeable as it was in GCI, I didn't even notice it for several games.
Always wanted to know that!!
Nice post, you have a very disarming tone and you aren't going over all the same issues as everyone else. I can never zoom the minimap at all because the influence colors disappear when I do and I can't tell where I am on the map.
X-play's episode about the E3 convention definitely made me feel more like buying a Wii than either of the other two systems. But really I could probably spend several more years just buying all the awesome games I haven't played for the PS2 -- all the Grand Theft Autos, Ratchet & Clank, Ultimate Spider-Man, Silent Hill, RPGs.

Influence points? In GalCivI I would occasionally trade for big blocks of influence points before a U.P. vote, but in this one it seems like the AI will trade a max of 200 influence points at a time, so it's worthless.
Starting over in the research is not annoying to me. That's just the way this game works, there's a build up. What's the most fun is starting with several advanced technologies so that you have a chance to do the regular build up, with the extra power of better government or large hulls. I suppose you could do a couple scenarios where you start out very very advanced in research, and that would be fun since not many games get to the point of very very advanced research or they are decided bef
