The AI is inconsistent about the value of obsolete techs. On the one hand, it complains loudly if you try to trade it both Laser II and Laser III, and it will throw in Laser II for free if you trade for Laser III. On the other hand, it will gladly pay for Laser III, then Laser II, then Laser, then Beam Weapons. Even on Masochistic you can get 700 bc out of the laser techs this way, or give them away once a turn, or trade up all their cheap technologies. It's an exploit and a waste of time, b

I think that checkbox is new. That's great! Most of my designs involve putting the guns up on antennas or pylons so when they vanish it's a bummer. It would be nice to keep the design of the predesigned ships when you upgrade them. Not only that, it made me confused about whether upgrading did anything at all -- because it didn't keep the functional parts, and it didn't keep the jewelry.
With Stardock it is like there are robot minions working on patches 24/7, and they are beaten severely and made to work even harder when there is a problem with a patch. They should put out a tip jar.
Having the aggression level randomly determined would have been a great modification for Galactic Civ I. In that game every opponent with an edge on you was instantly aggressive. It was great. You were scraping and panicking the whole game, and when you would lose every one of your planets would be wiped out. But, after a while, it got to be almost too stressful to start that early game because you knew you'd be fighting for your life. A little luck factor on the aggression would give diff
Whoops, I did not see the announcement that the new 1.11 build was up and addressed this issue. Wonder what their solution was.
Be interested to see how it reacts to me going for a tech victory... I think it should declare a trade embargo on you.
The computer knows when you're researching Technological Victory. Everyone can see what everyone else is researching. Unlike the alliance victory, it's not complicated to determine whether you're going for the win this way. So why shouldn't the computer do something about it? Declaring war suddenly would be no fun, but my friend had an idea that would make it a little more challenging. How about if any civ that noticed you researching Technological Victory declared a trade embargo on you?
In the Shipyard (F7) you can design your own ships, choose what weapons and engines to use. Just don't get too attached to any one design because every new technology makes you want to design another one just a little better. Also, don't get confused when the "Upgrade" button doesn't load in all the weapons you put on the ship. It only uploads the extras like swoopy wings and assumes you want to put all new weapons on yourself.
wrt using the Dyson sphere for research, this reminds me of the sci-fi book (free download) Accelerando, Link , where all the mass in a solar system gets rearranged around the Sun in a sphere of "computronium." I also think of his "Capitalism 2.0" idea when I'm researching advanced business or computer technologies.
You put this very tactfully, Torsten, I really feel your pain!
FWIW the Search button is over on the left in the site menu and not on the upper right where I would expect it to be. I looked for it before and didn't find it.
Can Precursor ships show up far outside your territory and take six turns to get there? I've never found one.
e.g. if you need 30 RP for Xeno Comm, and 25 RP for Univ Translator, if you spend 55 RP or more in one round, you can get both techs at once. Which I love, by the way. In the first GC I went F4-F6 F4-F6 every single time until I had absolutely no waste overflow. Now I can just go full steam ahead unless I don't want to go any farther in that
They should bring back the function where your flagship could find weapons upgrades in anomalies. You found a Photonic Torpedo! Go kick ass! I never tried upgrading an experienced flagship either but the experience bar still shows it as level 0 after you have that event. Do upgrades of a ship keep the same experience level?
I thought in the last GalCiv "Creative" meant you were more likely to find 25% of a technology when you went over an anomaly. I would even switch to Battleship Technology every time I went over an anomaly to try to get 25% of that hugely expensive tech. In this one neither Creative or Luck seem to do anything. I have never had a lucky event yet, unless you count the prison breakout, even playing with Universalist Altarians. I expect Luck to give me more as well as swingier random even
That would be great, but I'd just like a button at each end of the slider that says "0%" or "100%".
The Ships list certainly isn't the first thing to come to mind, and I don't tend to use said list. That's because it floats over the map and you can't close it with the keyboard -- am I wrong? If I knew a hotkey for "show the main map" I would use F1, F2, and F11 a whole lot more. I get your vision of the non-sandbox campaign now. I think Brad resists it because he is afraid of any scripting for the AI at all, even how not to build freighters in a universe where y
If you click under the leader's picture in negotiations where it says "Viewscreen," and click "Relations," you can still see where it says "At War With the Pirates, At War with the Space Shark!" carried over from GC1. So maybe the space shark went and hid.
#1 user interface annoyance for me -- having all my ships named "(Newtrade) New Design"! When I click "Save" I would like the cursor to implant itself in the box so I can start typing and I would like it to automatically overwrite "New Design" so I don't have to hit the delete key. Same goes for saved games. without an engaging backstory, without exciting events between missions to draw you into the story, and without characters to care about, there's no reason to play in a crip
Space sharks are cool, you found them in anomalies that looked like big spiny eggs. You could also find spaceships in anomalies, Defenders and stuff. And you would find weapons upgrades. In lucky games your surveyor could be one of your best ships. I renamed mine the "Corvette Killer." I love finding money in anomalies though, that's one of my favorite changes to GCII. The diplomacy screen used to have animated leaders. I particularly remember the Drath snarling at you. Maybe it
" I think it takes way to much time and effort to create a goodlooking ship so I wonder if there are gonna be some goodlooking shipmodels to choose from so I can just add the weapons, defenses and engines that I want to equip my ships with." I believe if you click on the "Library" button on the left of the screen and sort it by "Ships" you will find some good ones, but I haven't downloaded any yet. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmid
Thanks to everyone for the replies. Stromko, I did have good relations, without much managing on my part. No tribute. Some had bad relations, but maybe they paid tribute. "Too busy to war" is pretty common, tried to load the game to check but it crashed right away. I do have 1.1, I'd like to try reverting to a newer version now. I think Rogue Metro might have it right. If so the Drengin should be more aggressive when there are more civilizations, since we all have the same size
My copy of Galactic Civilizations seems to be missing something -- the killer instinct! I am playing a Large Masochistic game (v 1.10.027) where the Drengin have a Military graph that's double the height of any other civilization, 100-power fleets, Hostile with the Drath and Iconians, and still haven't attacked anyone. And it's not just this game. I have played four or five games so far, starting at Tough and working my way up to Masochistic, and never come close to losing once bec
