Man, I hardly ever save and reload GC because of the lost production. Even if it's for everyone it's still annoying. And of course it's cheating, the game is more fun usually when you take your lumps. Seems like if you see one really low number you'll see more, so click it once you see it going back to high. My computer runs pretty slow so I have time to watch this and imagine that my reflexes matter.

I've never actually used this method but I would imagine you could just set a "Constructor rally point" and when one starbase filled up -- just move it to the next waypoint you would have set. You'll have a lot of backtracking but no micromanaging since all your planets can keep sending it to the "Constructor rally point."

I don't like the idea of distant ships being able to churn out new ships. Where would they get the materials from? You might ask the same thing about upgrading a scout into a fighter in the middle of the galaxy. I did. but it makes a good game mechanic.

Think of it like this -- say you have a pass to Disney World that lets you go five hours a week. You can spend 100% of the pass without spending 100% of the time at Disney World. If you buy 20 passes (like buying more factories) you could spend 100% of your time at Disney World without spending 100% of your passes. So yeah, you have it right, youre spending 100% of your capacity but not 100% of your income -- that's how it's supposed to work, you need to build more factories to spend that ext

An even better idea would be to only list the technologies that race has that at least one other race doesn't have yet. I mean you already know they have Hyperdrive by the year 2030, what's interesting is whether they have Hyper Warp yet. This way you could tell what they had that might be worth trading to give to someone else (the diplomacy screen already tells you what they have that you dont have, but not what others don't have.)

I didn't say anything about this, but yes, one example configuration that gets you 4-speed colony ships is a custom race that starts with Hyperdrive-New Propulsion Techniques-Ion Drive, Galactic Warfare-Space Militarization. They don't have hardly any range, but it's usually enough to get to most every available planet. It takes a lot of research to get Impulse Drive and if your military is high enough to make a colony ship every two turns you probably wont get it done until all yo

Well, I played a Medium one and got worried because people were Hostile to me, but then I saved it, c ut off my two trade routes with them, and changed my alignment to the opposite of theirs and they never attacked. I did have allies, maybe thats why. I'm just going to go play the scenario where you're at war right from the start.

In Civ 2, every enemy would get mad at you at the same time. That was stupid. In every game, the computer would build stupid improvements. Granaries in every city, propaganda centers in the middle of its empire. I guess that still persists. The computer always throws away its defenses against unbeatable units, fighters versus armor and stuff. I rarely have unbeatable units but I don't see too much of this. The computer in Civ 2 played awesome stalling defense

I still think that what power gamers think of a game (like the people who make Link stunt videos for GTA: Vice City) is an important buzz factor, just as fashion and music trends look to a few ultrahip niche communities for trends that are then pitched nationwide. After somebody like Busta Rhymes gets popular you can say "Oh it was the gangster attitude" but really it was the hardcore underground rap scene that latc

LONG RANGE COLONIZER - Why is a newbie guide giving tips that will only be useful on a larger-than-Large universe? If you buy 3 factories and take Space Militarization you will build one colony ship on turn 3, 5, 7, 9,... and you will still barely manage to colonize the planets close to you in time. There's no time to be going halfway across the galaxy. These ships can usually almost catch up to the Scout and not need to waste the money on it, unless you are on a larger-tha

I would definitely have been willing to pay for the level of continuing game support that has been going on here. In fact I waited to 1.1 came out to buy the game, so they can tell from the numbers I valued the updates. This sort of thing doesn't usually work by directly collecting the money from the power gamers. I think what happens is great features build buzz in the power gamers that helps the game sell to normals. Like all those motorcycle jumps off fountains and stuff in G

Altarians are usually the strongest race in my games, then Arceans. Rarely do the Drengin have any power at all. Really surprised to hear that. In my Masochistic games the Drengin always have double the height on every graph that anyone else has. I was beginning to think the game was coded to be "Human vs Drengin."

Last suggestion - I think it would be really awesome if, when you save a ship with no functional components on it - IE, just the hull + extras - it would only show up on the shipyard screen, not on the quick build list or in the civilization manager or anywhere else. Basically, you never want to build a ship with no functional parts on it, you just use it as a template to

IMO your follow up post needs to be rethought as the 'tone' of what you have written is not in 'harmony' with your well placed initial one. I know that I would not be able to maintain an even tone after having two pages' worth of my ideas dismissed in a paragraph. On the other hand I wouldn't be able to stay calm about having two years' worth

24 (**) Here is an easy one that I think people would love: IF your espionage level is high enough then during the Galactic council meeting that races vote is displayed BEFORE you vote. I know you're working on espionage for the next one. Hope you do this because it's almost as easy as an IF-THEN statement and it would be so cool without reall

I often use the F1 and F2 hotkeys for ship and planet management. Make these toggle keys: If I'm looking at the planet list, I can dismiss it by hitting F2 again. I never use the F1 and F2 hotkeys for ship and planet management, because they are not toggle keys. This is a very good idea. F11 also would become useful if it were
