Yea i have to re-assign the textures to my models in the viewer which is not a bad thing, because i can rename them for use in sins. I am just worried that my models will have a permanent glow upon import despite the da's textures, and alpha channels in the cl file :p I hope the smoothing groups are saved as well. Otherwise my models will look like crap if groups are erased and default groups assigned. I will see for myself soon enough i am prepping 1 model as i type ;) I see y
Major Stress
If you dont see any materials in the material box chances are your model is untextured, or the converter you used erased the material data. So the viewer doesnt read .dds itself, but is does convert say .tga textures to .dds correct? Is the model supposed to appear bright white when you 1st open it in the viewer? I cant see any material settings to adjust ambient, specular, diffuse, etc. I am hoping the material setting from 3dsmax are saved.
THANK YOU! p5yy pretty much nailed it on the head. Its not the quantity of micro that needs the attention. Sins doesnt need any more micro (except for formation management). It is the "quality" of the existing micro that needs the work. For example if i form a fleet with a Kol, Marza, and an Akkan, right now i will have to select each cap ship individually to manually fire their ability's (if i dont have them on autocast). Why not have all of their ability's easily accessible in the control pana
Some misunderstand what i have been trying to say. I am not totally against micro. Sometimes it is necessary to do some micro to achieve victory in this game. What i am against is this game turning into yet another version of Sup Com, Homeworld, or Dawn of War. Where the only way to win is play in a frantic micro clickfest. Like Schod said if you want frantic micro RTS then go play those games. This game is supposed to be about epic grand strategy. Not up close, and personal tactics.<br
The micro addicts are the reason sins leans toward the RTS. Just once i would like a game to where i tell a fleet to go do something then go off, and read a paper knowing the AI will handle the rest.
I wasn't talking about planet development. That falls into the "exploitation" category. Sins doesnt seem to have an issue with that IMO. Exploration. To go out into the unknown, and discover that which you have not seen before. Sins does this to a point with the unknown planet icons. It is a die roll to discover an ice world, gas giant, nebula, or asteroid. There is still that missing element. On fixed maps you already know what is there after you played it a few times so there really
Since no major changes can be done i guess we will have to make due with what we have, and wait for the patches after release. Apologies for coming off as an ass earlier. I was tired (still am), weird, and pissed off. Just a general bad day :p Yes, we do need more 4X. More than what we have now. Especially in the exploration dept. Like i said it is there now. It just doesn't feel "right" i cant put my finger on it. It feels incomplete. I totally agree with you about th
Irfan View will convert images to most formats (even dds) [link="http://www.irfanview.com/"] Irfan View [/link] You can also use Gimp. TBH i would get photoshop if you really want to edit the images right. TGA's are layered images like DDS. The white image may be because you saved the alpha layer on top of the color layer. There is no special trick to this. If your image editor can view layers then it is pretty self explanatory to fix.
Planets need an inner ring of gauss's to protect from siege frigs. This isnt an option. It is a must do. Otherwise kiss the planet bye bye when a big pirate raid, or ai with lots of sieges comes. For AI raids it doesnt even have to be a complete ring. Just enough turrets placed in the general direction the ships approach from. Trade ports are your friend here. Against human players you may have to shift things around depending on what they use against you, or even keep a garrison fleet
Sins is being pushed as the best of both the 4x, and RTS worlds. That is exactly what i expect it to be. (Rant) Right now it is leaning more toward the RTS side of things.. gee, i wonder why. Is it because thats what everyone here has been asking for in the past? More tactic's, more clicky fest, more micro, more homeworld/starcraft wannabe? Wah, wah, wah, i want supcom, or DoW in space. Look at the past post's here, and you will get my drift >:( Why is it that all of a sudden N
Thumbnail previews for the stock sins maps are in the sins textures folder. They are 169x105 pixel .TGA files that are named like this: ScenerioPicture-"your map name here".tga In your map files look for the line that says browsePictureName "" and insert your maps name between the parenthasis. Make sure it starts with ScenerioPicture-. Look at other.galaxy files for an example.
The AI still places structures pretty much the same now as it did in the previous betas. It still tries to block jump points with guns. Even though the jump angles now all but make that tactic useless. Auto place will do the same thing. The last place i want my gauss guns right now is in front of a jump lane.
This is a good idea, and would make a great mod, but Ron, and Schod are both correct. What this would do is essentially "force" a balance between all opponents. As in for example a person with 100 worlds will have exactly the same amount of ships as a person with only 10. I am not a big fan of hard caps in a game like this, and that is exactly what will happen here unless you make the research numbers very high. For mods where there are supposed to be a finite amount of ships of any giv
The icon issue is fixed on the in house build. We are just waiting for the patch.
I want to toss in that a "kill capitol planet" gametype should also be included (if surrender is not).
Gets out a gun and shoots "Jar Jar" You want to watch something funny? Place 4 (or more) guns around a trade station, and wait for a pirate invasion
And I already want to watch Razor again, and the 2-part Resurrection Ship episode
Yea that was a pretty good show. I like how they brought back the "old school" Cylons.
The funny thing is the AI will sometimes go after your trade stations, refinery's, and their spawned ships as well (ignoring a wall of gauss's i might add). Auto position is good for unimportant worlds. Like an asteroid thats in the rear of your empire with a chance of being attacked that is slim to zero. Still, i wouldn't place any defense's with this. Has anyone noticed that flak frigs make good meat shields? Almost every AI that attacked me in my last few games went straigh
Are you the same Chip5541 from the Nexus modding community? I think you have the purpose of the gauss guns all wrong now (judging from the pic you posted). Much has changed since beta's 1,2, and 3. With the new jump angles in place it is easy to avoid guns blocking jump lanes. It is almost pointless now to put guns in positions like how they are in that screenshot. I use them to protect key structures, and let my hanger defense bombers deal with invaders that the guns cant reach. I also
You will be able to see his ships even if transparent because of the icons. Plus when you mouse over a ship a nice little empire icon, and info card pop up. The ship AI will still see them, and attack as well. If you want cloaking, the Vasari has cloaking ability's that could be modded into other ships. Its not a cloak ala star trek, but it is similar in purpose. Enemy's cant shoot you, and you cant shoot at them, or use other ability's. You cant jump while cloaked ether. The enemy will
Set your ships to hold position, and micro like hell if you want to keep some kind of coherent formation. Which resembles HW's wall formation. Otherwise the ship AI will just scatter your fleet all over the gravity well. Hopefully these "formations" the dev's mentioned will keep your ships together while moving. Nothing is more frustraiting than a colbalt going after a trader through a wall of gauss guns. Ship ai is saying "im gonna get you little trader hehehehe"....BOOM!
Having the sun as a choke point will make for some epic battles, because everyone, and their mother will camp it. Add to that the antimatter regen bonus. However you cant build anything in a suns grav well. So no PJI's to worry about. There is a chance you can escape the battle (slim, but a chance). I do see your point, but i believe the devs pointed out that the only way to jump between stars is using jump lanes that connect to stars. I am all for more than 1 point of entry, but we don
Huh? Do you want the map Bigger?? As i said this was a "just for fun" map. I wanted to try out a huge map with damn near all random worlds. It prolly would be better if we could use multiple stars, but your editor doesn't support that.
We dont know if other factions can be modded in or not. My trek mod will have the Feds, Klingons, and Romulans
This is a huge map meant for extremely long games with many uncertainty's. Many randomized worlds. In fact every world except your Home planet, and choke point asteroid is a random world. The only thing certain on this map is there will be WAR! I made this map for fun after thinking about my order and chaos thread. It is meant to be a just for fun map only. Even the most noobish of noobs will scream IMBA! at this map. Feel free
