In the early game you cant go wrong using your flagship plus about 10 colbalts, and 8 javalis LRM's. I just add (and replace) to it as the game goes along. At 380 points you should be able to field a nice fleet of at least 3 cap ships (i would chose the akkan, and dunov as my next 2 caps). Plus 5 light carriers i would bring the colbalt fleet to 12 and LRM's to 10. That is usually more than enough to do some comp stomping untill you get more ship slots.
Major Stress
Yea, i missed the testing purposes part, Sorry about that. I didnt have my morning coffee yet Im sure there are developer codes you can use in the console, but dont know what they are. It will help when the time comes for modding.
Fortify, fortify, fortify. Oh, and did i mention Fortify? Why?.. Because you KNOW sooner, or later the AI will research Insurgency. The AI may not attack you, but those damn pesky pirates WILL
Why do you need cheats? The AI right now is easy to beat. Even on hard settings. Im sure that will change. Unless you need them for modding purposes i see no point in cheats. Just ruins the game experience IMO.
Yes the large guns you see firing when it fires broadside are the lasers. It is strange that ships like the Kol, Akkan, Marza, Sova, and the kodiak all have autocannons, but they all sound different.
The devs are aware of this issue (see "the battle of kasuga" post), and all of the "bounty" posts. How you can help the devs narrow down issues, and make improvements is make posts similar to the "kasuga" post with after action reports. You know with "what, when, how, and where" kind of details. I didnt see any separate battle report topics on here. Maybe its time there should be one.
Theres both good and not so points IMO from this whole topic which i wont get into detail over because i dont want to clutter this thread up any more. The whole point is to discuss ways to do things which the majority can agree on, and to agree to disagree on things. I still say make the bounty a choice just like the pirates are a choice. What i noticed and it just may be a bug. The pirates attack AI factions and their bounty goes down, but if they attack you yours does not. It
The X series are what i call a "geek" games. Very steep learning curve, but fun once you figure things out (and live to do it). It does get old, and repetitious after a while. I got X2, and X3 though steam. When i fired up X3 for the 1st time i was appalled at the opening cinematic. I thought i got the wrong game. Once i got into space i breathed a sigh of relief. The visuals are pretty impressive. I have tried a few mods for the x games as well like the system takeover mods, realistic
Talk about "necromancy"
Has anyone thought about making bounties optional? Pirates are optional. Why not the bounties? In a no pirate, and no bounty game the AI may actually do some research, build some ships, and attack you. Since it has nothing else to spend its credits on.
Nothing is happening right now, because the forge tools (Sins modding tools) haven't been released yet. That wont happen until Sins final is released. I need the forge tools so i can import the models. I especially need them to be able to convert models made in 3dsmax (version 5 preferably). So right now i am just in the process of building, and selecting models for use in the mod. No more news will come of this until i have some ships, and weapon fx actually imported in game, and work
I dont think what the OP has in mind would be overpowered. You have to consider that your invasion fleet will more than likely have flak frigs, and if they dont then you deserve to be bombed to death by the defense bombers. This is like a tier 2 planetary defense system. Which would obviously be much more expensive to research, and build. This would be excellent for defending your capitol, or that precious crystal world, but i wouldnt use it to defend all of my worlds because of the expense invo
For the record lower end systems shouldnt have too much trouble running sins on max settings as long as you keep your galaxy maps small (20-40 planets max). My machine is an AMD sempron 3100+ (1.8 gig) with 2 gigs of ram, and a Gforce 6600gt (256 meg) vid card. All pretty much 3+ year old technology. At the beginning of all games i played i had a very smooth framerate. Around mid game i would see some lag due to the amount of units on the map (well over 100), but nothing game stopping.
I wouldnt even bring Homeworld into the equation here. In HW you were stuck in one place. You had no planets to colonize, or manage, and everything depended upon your mothership surviving. This game plays more like Haegemonia, but on a much larger scale. Which IMO is a good thing because Haeg was an awesome game in its own right. Sup Com doesnt even compare to this at all. Its a totally different genre. That is like comparing Homeworld to Command and Conquer.
Getting a decent fight out of 1 AI is hard at best, but 3 teamed up should be interesting. Nice report there. I think part of the issues now is that the surprise element is now taken out. We pretty much know what the AI does, and prepare for it well in advance. Just ONCE i would like to see the AI, or AI's group jump in an "oh shit!" 100+ ship mixed fleet of caps, cruisers, and frigs.
Ill do even better blair ill send you the replays and saved games. Perhaps a place to upload replays so others can download, and watch might be in order? That entire game lasted 12 hours, but i intentionally turtled most of it to see how the AI reacted. By the end of that game i finally went on a rampage, and wiped the pathetic AI off the face of the galaxy. The bounty on my head at end game was around 770k. The last AI only had a few ships guarding his homeworld. 2 of them
It is funny when you think about it.. The AI is having his last laugh at your expense Till i figured it out i had the same problem, I had to make my Akkan stop autocasting colonization after a world flipped back 5 times. What i do since my empires economy is pretty much set is the next world i take i build nothing but broadcast centers, and wait for my culture line to touch the next wor
I dont think the AI has a problem researching. Like i said i have insurgents coming in left, and right, the AI flys occasional kodiaks. Plus their scouts are phase inhibitor immune. So that tells me they built the 15 stations, and researched all the tech. The problem is the AI is not building enough ships, or is building the wrong types of ships, or both. With 10 worlds under AI control (2 of them crystal) it should have more than enough resource, and ship slots to field at least ONE massive fle
It is ridiculous that I have a 215k bounty on my head, and i am only halfway through a 4 player ffa with pirates game. The AI in the beginning was putting up some decent fights, but now it seems to have ceased building ships, and is now spamming bounty's like its giving away candy. How the hell do you top 215000, and RISING?! All techs have been researched (by the fact that i have insurgents invading now, and the AI is using the occasional kodiak). I am purposely turtle-ing this game to see what
Thats a good find, and indeed would be a game ender. Anyone else notice this?
Think Homeworld meets Master of Orion, and you will kind of get the idea of what this game is about. What sets this apart from other 4x games is that everything happens in real time. Not in turns Like MOO, and GC2. Exploration, Colonization, Research, Travel, etc. etc. al work like 4x games. Except that you dont have to wait "x" amount of turns for something to happen. You dont need to constantly hit the "end turn" button for the game to progress, because everything progresses by itself
I have yet to experience this since the patch, but others have including the devs. So if your ships do this just re-issue a manual attack order, and they should work as normal. The devs are well aware of the problem and are working to fix it.
This is more like a study than a report. Like Blair says reports like this will help them improve the game
When they say "evacuate yada yada", or something stupid to that effect. Thats when i usually break my alliance with them, and go on a rampage though their worlds. Its funny because after i wipe out his fleets, and take over a couple of his worlds they want a cease fire (which i decline with extreme prejudice)
I think the AI should start building cap ships at 1st opportunity. It relies to heavily on carriers, and strike craft right now. If it came in a mixed fleet of various Cap ships, and Frigs that stick together as a group then i think the AI would be much more of a challenge. It is an improvement over pre-patch, but like schem said it is still kind of a pushover.
