It will be a year, or so at least before the majority of people have PC's capable of playing Sup Com lag free. I like supcom, but ill be damned if my old piece of industrial art can play anything higher than a 5k map faster than 2 fps at end game EDIT: DOH! didnt see "page 2"
Major Stress
The single player campaign was pretty good (for its time), but multiplayer/skirmish kinda sucked. Like what was said. It is a rush to get destroyers, and carriers. The patches didn't change that, and the game still has issues AFAIK. I haven't played it in a long time. This game was in development before Homeworld, but got delayed, and wasn't released until way after HW's release. I would have killed to have ORBS maps, and backgrounds in a HW game. The main player races ships looked dated even co
Sins is nothing like the Homeworld series.... Ok, maybe a little bit, but still There were some great 3d maps i played in HW, but like was said the most popular maps were played in 2d. While most players played HW in 2d, the 3d option was there to exploit if you wanted to. I think thats what this is all about. The option to use it. I can see how the 3d maps would get confusing especially if you
1st NEVER let a PC retailer talk you into buying a component you don't want. I have a dated system with similar specs to yours, perhaps lower. The difference is you use a 2.4 gig p4 vs my sempron 3100+ (roughly the same cpu power). I have 2 gigs of ram. Today i wouldn't put anything less than 2 gigs of ram in a machine. I also use a GF-6000gt but mine is 256 megs vs your 128. I can run Sins at max settings, but i cant run large maps (over 20 planets) without a slide show happening mid
This subject belongs in the modding area. The Warhammer 40k universe could probably be modded into sins (once the mod tools come out). There is a BFG mod for HW2 though i doubt it will ever be finished. Same for Dawn of War (yes someone is trying to do a BFG mod for DoW). Every gothic mod i have seen so far is in its alpha stage with nice pretty screens of some imported models, but no sign that they will ever be finished. To answer your question no i have not actually played BF
This is more than likely going to be like Galactic Civilizations 2 where the "campaign" is going to be a series of scripted sandbox missions (hopefully non-linear). In GC2 it shines in its sandbox game. I agree that Sins will shine the most in MP. If sins makes its campaign a "metaverse" Like what crusader suggested that would be awesome. Massive.. Oh Yes. A loooong game that will take weeks, or months to complete.. Oh hell yes.
If Star Trek Online plays anything like eve online it might be worth something, but it seems lately nobody has been able to make a decent trek game without somehow screwing up the gameplay or giving it some idiotic dumbed down story. Every trek game that came since the Starfleet Command series (with the exception of SFC3 which was awful), Ironically The SFC series is based off an old board game called Starfleet Battles that was based on the TOS era of trek. SFC adapted the gameplay of the old bo
I have no problem with competitive MP. I dont play online anymore because most people want a wham bam its all over in 2 minutes type of game. Most young online players etiquette leaves much to be desired as well (the relic forums is full of this "etiquette"). "IF" i do decide to seriously play Sins online expect to be playing against me for at least 5-10 hours (free time allowing) on 1 game (on a small map). I view this as a giant game of chess. To take your time, and THINK about your n
If a ship is that close to a star, or black hole it should take damage over time (thermal for stars, and gravity wave for black holes). This will make camping there a very risky thing to do I wasn't aware of the antimatter loss at a star. Thanks for pointing that out. If we can pull off entire solar systems in a single grav well the same should be true for that solar systems star. If you get too c
The Recorded Game function in Sins seems to be working ok now. I haven't had any crash issues with it since the latest update. I would like to see a replay repository similar to what was done for Supreme Commander for the Sins community so we can share our experiences with others (it may help the dev's too). If the mods would create a sticky section specifically for replays that would be great. To find your replays look in (for Windows XP) C:\Documents and Settings\"your user n
I seem to be the one of the few that have posted something like this. The devs have asked others to do the same. So what are you guys waiting for?
I'll jump my caps if they get in trouble which so far has been very rare if ever, but frigates are expendable attrition units. They are supposed to die to make me more money....errrrr... My cause
There are many topics in which the AI is being discussed. The dev's are well aware of the AI's shortcomings, and are working to improve it.
Fleet/Squad/Group = same thing as far as i am concerned. I refer to groups of fighters as "Wings", but it is a moot point, because they are autonomous, and auto built from carriers, and hangers (least in my battles). I have never lost a capitol ship to the AI. I came close, but retreated it before it blew. This was because of an unexpected light carrier rush from the AI, and i had no Flaks to defend it. Frigates on the other hand are another story. Against a very well defended planet i can guara
Burn! Damn i knew it! They designed the AI after my Suicidal Psycho tactics from Eve Online (Caracal vs Domonix... Caracal vs Concord... Caracal vs Thanatos .. u get the idea ).
The will be a mix of debris types, including custom capital ship pieces designed directly from the original ships. Now thats what im talking about
The only way i can see the multiple planets in a single gravity well happening is to create a fixed map that loads the same pattern of planets at the same locations each, and every time instead of the random maps that load now. I am all for a load custom map option in sins. Many mods will depend on sins being able to use custom maps (including my Star Trek mod). The only way i see custom maps happening is with the forge tools. We will have to wait for the games final release before that happens.
While its true you cant really see the fighters unless you use icons. I think the scales are fine as they are, and right where they are supposed to be. If anything the bombs fired from bombers need to be shrunk a little because the bombs are bigger than the bombers. In a battle i dont focus on the fighters anyway. Most of it is zoomed out to see everything. Go to single player/load game/recorded, and pick a replay to watch. Of course it has to be a replay of the current version of the g
Mostly correct. The AI ships will almost always come after your fleet (and into their doom). Especially if you are attacking one of their worlds. I always set to weapon range only before i jump into a new system. Except for strike craft because the gauss guns cant target them. I leave my fleet at the edge of a gravity well, or move them away from the gauss guns. After that it turns into a big fireworks show at the AI's expense <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" borde
It shouldnt be that difficult to make a duplicate model of a ship, and "wreck" it. It has been done before in other games. It also shouldnt cause too much more of a performance hit. I think 1 minute for duration is plenty of time, or you can have the debris scatter away then explode themselves as schem suggested. Ether/Or is better than the burnt box's we have now.
...even if the developers are the same guys who did Cataclysm. Huh? What?! IC is the late Barking Dog? How the hell did u guys jack up the texture memory from the old HW engine? If you want to watch the strike craft up close, and personal use the replay function, and cinematic mode. While some aspects of this game resemble the HW series, I really dont want it to be anything like HW, Cat, or HW2. The old cliche "bee
Haegemonia: Legions of Iron had persistent debris of the actual ships for wreckage recyclers to recover for credits (Now theres a thought devs ). However as more ships were destroyed the lag got worse because all of the wrecks remained. So when The Solon Heritage was released they made the debris timed to last on screen for only a few minutes. Long enough for a recycler if any to recover it. This can be u
Nicely done! Unless there is a big fleet battle going on where they are fighting right on top of each other it will be hard to tell what is happening, because all you will see is 1 side shooting something at a great distance (which is as it should be).
You are going to need the Garda's as soon as the AI starts building Perchirien's. Otherwise you can kiss your LRM's goodbye, because thats what the AI bombers target 1st. 10 flaks is more than enough to protect your fleet from bomber attacks. Any more will be a waste of ship slots. I build the Akkan, and Dunov 1st just to have their abilitys to compliment the Kols. Plus the extra 2 fighter slots dont hurt. Once i get more ship slots i toss in the Sova, and Marza, and level them up asap. Marza is
In multiplayer i can see some value to this. Some people will have difficulty controlling multiple groups of 100's of ships on the map at the same time. However If we nerf the number of ships more tactical options will be needed (Fleet Formations. Rock, Paper, Sissors. Precise movement control etc.). I think right now it is intended that 2 fleets should be able to fight it out just using the AI without the player having to intervene. Thus the player shouldnt have to worry about managing
