Hi guys!
In 2139, a network of artificial wormholes has allowed humanity to reach nearby stars, where nations fiercely compete to settle new colony worlds. War is imminent between Earth's top powers, China and Japan, for reasons that no one fully understands. Neil Mercer, a freshly commissioned officer in the United States Space Force, is assigned to shepherd a senior spy on a covert mission that risks dr
Opening and closing systems is not in yet, I hope it will be in next patch. I think that right now they are at the polishing phase, I'm currently waiting to the next patch before I start a new game. Warder
SotS2 moved from being ship based to fleet based, and all you ships in that fleet will be in the battle. Basic cruiser fleet got 54 CP (command point) one cruiser is worth six CP so you're basic fleet can field nine cruisers, certain techs will get you more CPs across the board, for example, holographic tactics will add two cruisers(12 CP) to your CP pull so your cruiser fleets could have eleven cruisers in them (the tech is currently bugged and only add on cruiser). Gone
I would love to see a new HW game! Problem is that all the old HW developers aphave scattered in the wind :( I still got the first HW manual sitting in a place of honor onby book shelf, it was one of those extremely well written things that got you itching to play the game, two of the folks who wrote that manual (and worked on HW and it's expansion) are part of Kerberos and they work on SotS2 now. If you are into 4x Space TBS games I highly recommend SotS1 the. Complete edit
I'm playing it and I'm having a blast. I started my current game, playing as sol-force, on a five players map and I gave each player nine starting systems but kept starting techs and money to normal (0 techs and 100,000 credits). I'm around turn sixty and I'm facing a stubborn Hiver on one side and a surprisingly peacefully Zuul on the other, the only reason why the Hiver haven't steamrolled me was because my Archer class missile cruisers have a quirk called "spiri
Hello Just tried the mod, the game allways get stuck on me every time I got more than 7 ships in 1 group.... Other than that it looks nice, any info on the tech tree? Warder
You dont think there will be a stealth detection arms race? Just because detection is ahead now doesnt mean it always will be. Also there are ways to mask heat they are not very effecient at the moment but they could be.
There are no ways to mask heat in space. you will have to go below 3 degrees kalvin and doing so will break the laws of thermodynamic.
It doesn't make a great deal of sense to base theoretical future technology on imaginary laws
They use momentum over warheads. The power of the shell comes from its mass * in velocity after firing
Not momentum, kinetic energy: E=0.5*M*V^2 (V^2=V*V).
Also we need to take into account what the force * time, when the shell hits, as if we increase time we decrease force, as M*V = F*T.
Wrong, check your physics books again. I understand your point of view, but I don't agree with it :NOTSURE: tough. Anyway, my slow week is about to end tomorrow so it's back to the slave pits for me, good luck on your bar exams and please lay down on the jerkiness :p Warder
I'll make it easy by giving my Degree Information
I would erase that if I were you.... how can I know you didn't pulled this information from the public record? (don't answer that it's not relevant) I'm an engineer, if you don't believe me than you are free to ignore me from now on. Warder
Hey that was a shot at me wasn't it?
LOL  I have no intention what so ever to disclose any kind of personal information to strangers in public media, sorry, it seems like you'll just have to belive me. Wanderer, the main problem with your arguments is, you don't give parameters for your "facts" and worse you treat everyone else who dissagree with you like they are small kids who don't know nothing. I'm not saying that I disagree with you OTOH
when you think about it, theres f*** all in space to fight over, so its still gonna be a case of orbital to upper atmostphere combat. discuss.
There wasn't any thing to fight over in the americas when they where first discovered and yet it wasn't long until they were fought over. A better analogy to space will be an ocean. space is a medium that you go through to other places like planets (island/ continents) and got resources like astroids filled with metalls an
Warderin, don't magnetic shields exist already? Isn't that what the researchers use to contain the tiny amounts of antimatter they can create?Even if it do...it will only ward of charged particle...Only thing that I can think of that have closest resemblance to shields in the movies are cold plasma...and some combination of laser screen and nanotube screen to protect from getting fired at...(source: Physics of the Impossible, Michio Kaku...)
**Point up** what he said
For starters that link is awsome please supply more that would make great desktop wallpaper. But I think the question was more like, "If I had shields and since they do not allow heat and energy to pass through, How do I keep my engine heat and weapon heat from turning my ship into a huge easy-bake oven?" I'm currious about that happening as well.
Short answer, I don't know :D. Long answer is it's depends. Today shields exist only in books and in the minds of de
That, or just normal railgun is ok, since actually pure solid slug will be more difficult to destroy than missiles...(I think normally missiles are destroyed by preventing it from explode, or make it explode midflight, you can't do it with slugs...)
It all boils down to your propulsion system, if a ship can produce enogh Delta-V to evade the rail gun slug than missiles will be more attractive, OTOH if not than plain old rail guns will be more attractive, On the gripping h
Keep in mind, I'm not a physicists or a weapon expert. I can only give my opinions.I think that, ultimately, missiles armed with nuclear, fusion, or anti matter warheads will not be feasible in space combat. A missile is relatively slow and, thus, vulnerable to interception. Even today, we are experimenting with anti missile weapons systems that show great promise. The US Navy recently test fired an honest to God railgun. Once power sources for weapons like rail guns become compact e
Hello Just for the record I want to say that I AM an Aerospace engineer. ;) Wanderer17, You are being a jerk, a somewhat knowledgeable jerk but still a jerk, do not take every thing you read like a word from God and please drop the attitude, it's not helping. Having said that I would like to point Wanderer that your basic points are quite valid allthough I don't agree with your conclusions. Lets assume that you have your Nuke-Missle armed ships what is thier

Damn should have read the earlier posts..... Fangs and claws on spaceships is not somthing that i'll worry about, unless that ship can get to my ship really fast to rip it apart, OTOH if the enemy is fast enough to catch me no matter what than i'm doomed anyway because the enemy can simply build ultra fast kinetic kill vehicels and bombard me to death. So if there were cute pink space ponies flying around who are unkillable can shot homming fireballs from thier eyes and nukes from t
Ohhhhhh but pink ponies are soooo cute! **girlish giggle**
what if the perceivedeffectiveness of a weapon system can be altered?Take, for example, the Vikings. They were not really the best with war. They were good fighters, but raiders primarily and easily annihilated by organised armies. Yet they were effective, amazingly so; why? Certainly it has to do in large part with their ability to hit fast enough that the defending locals could not mount an effective resistance, but I believe a great deal of their effectiveness was born of their fri
Before I say anything I just want to say that I am an undergraduate student in aerospace engineering
Military design most certainly does take aesthetics into consideration, for two reasons. One, the contractor who is developing this weapon has to sell military brass on throwing down some budget money on their creation; military pragmatism notwithstanding, it is easier to sell someone on something that looks as if it will accomplish the task. This means you design a vehicle/weapon
