No mods were in play but I was either in or 1 removed from a gas giant. The one next to the gas giant was a space ship grave yard

In the game i just played whenever a vasari ship entered my gravity well a large cloud would start animating anywhere i had a fighter or bomber. Without a ship or fighter in the area i lost 42 fighters/bombers in under 6 seconds. This occurred again later as i entered a vasari gravity well and again when a single vasari colonizer capital ship entered my gravity well by itself and destroyed an entire 14 squadrons on the star-base instantly.
