It feels like the beginning and end aren't that much different when technology comes into play. yeah this is my biggest hang up if it is a 4x game it should feel like a lot of time is going by as the game is being played right now it feel like maybe only a few months are going by. i agree with what startrekdork said earlier about moving up to bigger and more powerful vessels.

completely agree on this point as it stands right now the tech tree is almost an after thought. there are a few must have tech like cap. ships and trade ports and some others, however the rest do not seem to impact gameplay on a huge level. yes someone that is way ahead on the tree is going to have a decided advantage but some of the tech are hardly noticeable. i think the best thing to do is eliminate some of the repeats and add some more decisive tech possibly make it so you have to

Well i have been on the forms for a while now and have seen the words "EPIC" and "4x" and the like thrown around a lot. However i have never seen any actual formal definition of how a game moves from the the realm of ordinary to epic. What aspects of a game elevate it to such a level. Is it the battles, the number of units in a battle the size of the game. the diplomacy. is it the empire management. maybe the technology. or perhaps something i have yet to mention. granted i know that i
I'd love to have a screen that easily shows every race and their current treaties/wars going on as I found it difficult to tell who was fighting who while allied with every race. I agree with that you would not want to go to the war without looking at who they were allied with.
Personally i would like to see different degrees of treaties. I dont think a cease fire should automatically make you allies or grant them military access. I think it should go 1)cease fire. basically you dont shoot me an i will do the same for you. 2) military access where you can move thru there planets. then 3) allience where you agree to help each other. Thats just me though.
Anyway back on topic, as it stands right now it is more RTS just on a larger scale than most of us are used to. To me personally what makes something epic is everything that happens outside of combat, like research, how you handle empire build-up things like that. The research tree is a little on the small side for an epic game and the empire build up does not allow for many choices. Actually the travel form kinda been solve long ago just problem of being expensive. I am talking about the antimatter drive look it up. It can cut from 3 month on chemical fuel to merely 3 week travel time. Yeah i know what your talking about they would be practical for interplanetary travel, however i was in reference in trying to reach objects outside our solar system. Even with anti-matter drive it would take to long.
what would be the point in interstellar capacity if you got fried in the process? I understand that it just seems to me that you method to get from point A to B before you start talking about how to protect yourself from everything in between. I don't say this to devalue the argument its just seems to me that in terms of interstellar travel the most pressing problem now is the travel part.
lol i find it interesting that you guys are arguing the best ways to protect ppl in space when we have not even found a way to reasonably travel interstellar distances. just thought i would mention that.
If you don't have any programing experience i would suggest leaving it alone until they release the forge tool mod stuff, however that being said. If you want to try an mod right click on the file go to properties and click "change" next to the open with, and select notepad. If this is your first time with a text editor i suggest getting a better one than notepad i use notepad++ its free and has a lot more features than just notepad. hope this helps and good luck. <img src="http://images.stardo

most of the initial patch releases were prolly just code corrections, little "oops" or "duh" stuff things like a plus sigh that should have been a minus and other little things like that. The hard part is now tracking down crashes that don't seem to have an obvious reason.
i dont get a cramped feeling the thing i find hard is you are always fighting on someones turf. one person or another has "home field advantage". there does not seem to be any neutral territory to draw your enemy into a fight. i am however at a loss on how to correct this.
I whole heartily agree you guess are 2 of the best game companies out there. i feel when i speak or have a problem you guys actually care(strange huh). these forms seem like a miracle themselves i have never seen a form with such little moderation remain so civil. I would love this too, a single system in a gravity well. Maybe cap it at 5 planets and some resoruce asteroids. Asteroid plaents would count as planets for this pourpose. And a nice sun in the middle Of course we would need a balck hole for center gravity well to travel between systems of wells (ie galaxuies) And if you go into that well you better get out soon or it wille at you :O what i was saying was that i would like there to be more than one objec

i agree with making the gravity well bigger. i said something to that extent on the game play thread. i feel that they should include more objects that can be colonized per gravity well, like 2-3 planets that way ppl can fight in the space between. the same can be applied to asteroids you can have a belt with 4-5 asteroids that can be colonized the well will be bigger because of the added objects.
is there the possibility of adding more than one object that can be colonized per gravity well i.e. maybe 2 or 3 planets with some distance between them as well as some asteroids this would serve to make the well bigger, slowing the game down a little.
What exactly do shields do(i know they protect the ship) are they simply an extension of the health bar. i see on the info card about shield mitigation but the hull does not seem to go down until all the shields are gone.

the research tree is incomplete i think, on another thread they said the extended jump range(not the long range one that lets you jump to other stars) is a hold over tech that is useless now i think.on the combat side there is a row on top that has those green squares but no techs on that level so i think the are meaning to put something there.
i went back and looked more closely at what at i saw i think it is something else it looks more like a cross hair and its red. i cant post a screen the forum is being funny.
Hmm, there should be a little white plus sign on the ship's icon and around its mesh view should have a big glowy white particle effect. yeah sorry should have been more specific, i have seen that particle affect but it is temporary. i have seen the plus signs but i always group my ships and there is a plus oven all the ships in the group i was wonder what they where i will see if i can get a screen of it for you.
