Danosh...don't even know how to respond to your comment. Just curious....has the RTS camp played large scale games? The 4x roots can be clearly seen in large maps, when your not microing every battle, and instead fleets are stacks and your madly doing a hundread things at once. On this scale it feels nothing like any RTS I have ever played....and I probably own about 90% of major RTS releases since Dune.
Spot on.
OMG...you didn't just do what I think

The ability to build ships in-game was rejected because it would be difficult to implement into the real time nature of the game. Alternatively, we could try and pressure the devs to come up with a nifty and balance-maintaining ships design program out of game, but that runs the risk of people designing an all-in-one cheap ship that can be spammed, especially if weapons of different types and roles can be mounted.
the new acronym
Just a pet peeve note; an arconym is an abbreviation that is pronounced, like Radar, or Laser, or APEC, or QTAC, or TEC, etc. They are considered "words", hence the Greek root or the suffix "-nym", which approximates to "word". Abbreviations like RTS, RPG, RT4X, FPS etc are merely called abbreviations. They are not words (since they're not pronounced) - they are abbreviations. Acronyms are specialized, pronounced abbreviations. Just a note :P

Siege ships shouldn't be spammed. Period. Regardless of whether you can beat them. They should be weakly armoured, strongly armed. That's how siege units have always been. Period. If you're upset that the enemy can target your siege units, well, whooptydo, that's generally how it is anyway. If you don't like it, modify your strategy - siege units should not and now, thanks to the nerf, cannot be spammed. Good. Stop whining.
Auran might be circling the drain financially after the failure of their last game Fury.
True, but this is published by Auran, not (obviously) developed by it - I think it's the developer that's dying, but the publisher still seems to be alive. After all, it published GalCiv2 for us quite well :P
Wasn't really trying to make a big deal of it I just tend to point it out when people say it because so few seem to know. It's actually even in a number of dictionaries :S
No big deal; remember - I asked you :P Very interesting - and I thought I was good at etymology :P
Sure, programmers know about programming. Guess what game designers know about.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say microbiology. Am I right? Do I get a prize?
Schwaaaa? It's the internet man! Don't apologize! I meant for that comment mainly to show that my first post was not directly in regards to your specific complaint (re: AI overuse of siege strat). I didn't consider your post "arrogant" or whatnot.
*nods* ok :) it was my unobservance causing the confusion :P Nice Schwa, btw :P
3.) While I respect your view Sib, you are not the only one complaining about the "Siege Spam", and there have been more than one view as to why siege frigates "need" to be nerfed.
You're right, sir. Apologies for my arrogance.

Hey mate, look carefully. The reason the nerf take place wasn't because people couldn't deal with the spam. It was because the spam existed in the first place. Honestly! How many times does this have to be repeated?
You can never effectively pull off a seige rush unless both players do NOTHING for the first 5 mins.
There should be no such thing as a siege rush, hence the nerf.
"make this another starcraft, not another supreme commander."
I must admit, that was one of the oddest comments I've read in the past few weeks. Really.

It seems to me that Schod is, no offence to him, changing what actually happens in the game to suit his argument. Remember that this isn't a matter of not seeing the onslaught, but of not being able to stop it, even with what should reasonably be called good defences. That wouldn't happen with either WW2 bombers or unsupported artillery. Whoops. Getting all involved again.

Oh, Prof. Good point there, man! And
Simple, they skipped other planets and appeared at the capital.
is further evidence for the need for this nerf. On the point of that WW2 stuff, could those arty groups have charged straight through Allied ranks and reach their destinations (if, for example, their range were too short?). Siege units don't behave like that.

I am honoured that Frogboy would make our point like that. And indeed, the person whom he quoted. That is the point. Unless someone can successfully counter that point, can we close this now?
