Arcath, I had a similar problem way back in the beta days with Sins. The way I resolved this issue was by going the C:/Program Files/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire folder and right clicking on the 'Sins of a Solar Empire.exe' file then clicked on 'properties', from there I clicked on the 'Compatibilty' tab and checked the 'Run this program as administrator' box. This fixed the issue with Sins not wanting to boot up for me. I also did the same with Impulse and any

If you are refering to the map picture (or Scenario picture), it is 177x92. The files for the map pictures are in: 'C:/ProgramFiles/Stardock/TotalGamming/SinsofaSolarEmpire/Tetures' folder. all map pictures are TGA format and start off labbled 'ScenarioPicture-' here's an ex: 'ScenarioPicture-AgamemnonsBounty' Hope this helps, PoorManDSO
yes driver 97.46
The only other version of the driver that I have found to fix the crashing issues (pre-174.74 version driver) was with a roll back to this driver. Driver Version: 7.15.0010.9746 You may have a hard time finding it (for some reason I could not find it in Nvidia's archives) so here is Nvidia's link: [link="http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_97.46.html"]WWW Link[/link] I believe it will allow overclocking on a laptop but it is a huge roll back.
Dark Star Outpost has been approved by Ironclad Games/Stardock to make 'official' "Space Pony" hats. PoorManDSO/Dark Star Outpost is now offering Space Pony hats to the public (US residents) for a very resonable price of $12(USD) + ship/hand! (residents outside of US may email [email protected] for pricing and availability) Space Pony hats now avaialable @ http://www.darkstaroutpost.com Get you
Blair, I would like to try to save you and IC some trouble right from the start by reminding any Nvidia users that they will want to upgrade their driver to 174.74! (please read supported hardware specs./notes before installing) It is available to XP(32,64) and VISTA(32,64) platforms. Here is a [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/305908"]WWW Link[/link] to ALL XP, VISTA drivers. Good Luck to all with crash issue. I know how fustrating it can be. PoorManDSO
I have to agree with Carbon016 on several issues. 1) Just because you have a DUAL/QUAD core does not nessasarily mean better perfomance. "Raw processing power is not the only constraint on system performance. Two processing cores sharing the same system bus and memory bandwidth limits the real-world performance advantage." "A system with N cores is effective when it is presented with N or more threads [U]concurrently[/U]." "The ability of multi-core processors to increase ap

WoOT - Looks like Nvidia has fixed the crashing issue! As some may know, I have had a crash issue (with Sins) using newer Nvidia drivers after 97.46 (Vista). I know some of you have had a: hard crash/freezing/minidump/driver (failure/recover) ... I've also had these issues since beta 2 - ALL OF THEM! Well, not any more :) I installed this new 174.74 driver (beta) from Nvidia last night and have been playing Sins since - w/ no issues.</
I suggest trying 1 of 2 things to fix your issue: 1) Roll back your driver to version 97.46 here is a link to Nvidia driver (32bit) = [link="http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_97.46.html"]WWW Link[/link] and 64bit = [link="http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_97.46.html"]WWW Link[/link] 2)Try running Sins in Windowed mode. I am using the rolled back driver w/ no issues (Vista,7900GS). HOPE THIS HELPS PoorMan Out!!
cha0swyrm, There is an option for windowed mode in the options/video tab of sins - you can switch to windowed mode there. :)
I do know that Nvidia has been trying to address this issue (had this issue back in beta2) and they will be releasing a driver later this month (sometime) - I see ur an XP user (I'm on Vista). For Vista - the (rolled back) 97.46 driver seems to be working properly w/ Sins. I tried to look up a compairable driver for XP but had no luck. YOU MAY WANT TO TRY THIS FOR NOW: set the game to 'Windowed Mode' and see if that will work for you for now. I have never had a crash issue using Windowed Mod
Windows has released their SP1 for Vista today (03/18/08) ! http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b0c7136d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en#Requirements Issues Addressed (overview): h
A thought by PoorManDSO ... After reading the forums the last 2 months, something has occured to me ... there are alot of posts about "My issues with Sins" and very few posts about "Thank you developers!!" Well, here's my "say so" ... "THANK YOU IC/STARDOCK!" I feel as though I should not need to Xplain all that makes me thank them. Just the fact that Iron Clad's 9 member team (w/ the aid of St
