DoV was really never about ground. Granted, a lot of our backstory takes place on the ground - but the modern day fight takes place across solar systems. Earth was "split up" after the Scinfaxi invasion, but eventually it was abandoned and nuked. SoSE's engine is more to our liking, because EaW tried to do too many things at once and ended up having zero flexibility on one and poor base gameplay on the other. SoSE will let us have a more open-ended, real time, and larger-scale universe.

Looking good. Made any progress with the mesh standard? Are you going to stick with solar systems, SOASE-style? It really depends on what we're offered. Since neither of us have played the beta, we don't really know the scale we're dealing with. An optimal scenario would be the entire galaxy, with a bunch of solar systems as secondary zoom levels like shown in the big map. If that is not possible, we wil

The Republic tended to use more specialized ships, more so than the Empire that would form out of it. The Victory I was a battleship, the Venator was a carrier, and the Acclamator was a troop transport. I think the distinction is that the Rebels were more inclined to use whatever they could get their hands on (e.g. converting Nebulon-Bs to medical frigates), not the specialization aspect so much. The ISD was used as a hangar, assault ship, and troop transport all at once, as was the De

Yeah, since SoSE seems to take high-poly models just a bit better we'll be given more freedom to make our models look even better than they would in EaW. anyhow, I like the idea of bringing the nations of the world into space, but will there simply be more ships, or are you guys planning on tweaking settings? No, this will be a complete TC as far as the game and its tools will allow. The whole "bring in new models only" thing was the reas

Sounds great! The language looks a little high-level but I'm confident that this will work perfectly for the mod. Thanks, guys

Notepad almost always means scripting language. Scripting language usually means inflexibility. The reason I want to move it over here is because EaW was all based in XML and LUA. Therefore, I was unable to create new abilities and gameplay features (the LUA was all using pre-defined functions as well, no open-endedness). An SDK on launch day is probably asking for too much, but if all the changeable data is in a scripting/markup language like XML than this engine may not be what I'm look

Question. The FAQ page says this game is completely "data-driven". Does this mean there will be an SDK-like release of source code? (data-driven seems to imply C++) I'm thinking about moving a EaW mod over here but I don't want another XML disaster. I do not have the beta so please excuse my ignorance on the topic.
