Thanks for the help. I have a policy of not fiddling inside, or someone else fiddling inside, a PC. Only for cleaning or if there is no other choice. But I don't use my computer for burning discs or watching movies, only for internets, games and the odd bit of work. So I'll try my luck with an external one. Some games do ask for the CD to be in while playing the game, but I've never heard the thing whirr while playing one so don't think there would be an issue with data tran

They have never steered me wrong. Look for the Best Of tab and shock and amaze at the amount of free info you are getting. They even break them down to price points for the budget minded. But I like Lite On products for internal drives, why are you using an external drive for games anyway, bad idea for

I've discovered ( https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/390748 ) my DVD drive is packing in. While my beloved Football Manager and my gf's beloved Sims 3 still work, there will come a tme where I will stop being patient and realise I have other shit to play. I bought X3 a few years ago, tried it a long time later, and thought it was broken so threw the disc away. Oops. I will need to play this game at some point, without paying

They get their money refunded by the bank, don't they? I don't know what to think of viruses/malware anymore. The vast majority of people who use computers click on and join absolutely anything that comes up, with or without a firewall and antivirus, and nothing happens to them. In fact, as a teen I used some standard firewall and/or antivirus, and on a few occasions none at all, and my identity is still mine. On the other end of the scale, when I have wised up and used a fire

I saw the opening post and thought this was going to be about a different link. This has actually happened before, an employee going public about EA's practises.
I don't think you can make an ally or ceasefire when it is 1 v 1. Even in larger games unless you set the allied victory conditions to allow more than one player to win, the AI will declare war on you when you are the last one left. Though why would you want a ceasefire in 1 v 1? Wouldn't it be better to disable the AI player entirely making you the only one in the system?
Well it would make things easier if I made </a

I've only played 1 v 1 so far so maybe it's different when there's more factions and players, so this is pre-emptive. Why does the other player hate me, even if we're the same race? Refuses cease fire, refuses trade pact and shoots on sight. If I don't encounter him/her/it, they'll make themselves known soon enough. I'll keep to myself and still suddenly have capital ships and fleets with tight sphincters ruining my stuff. Can't we get along? Or do we always have to kill each

Facepalm. So I suppose you're all choosing to partake in the increase of VAT and to be in a particular tax band, and are just giving 'your' money cos you want to and no because the government tells you and automatically does it? Stop and think a bit. The government owns a good chunk of our wage in that respect.
Ozzy, you clearly have some kind of mental damage since you believe the government's money is their money. It isn't; it is the money of everyone who earned it and gave it to the government as taxes, and the government essentially stole it from them with the threat of jail time.
Getting better, but you still need to skip the Obligatory Insult Attempt at the start. And like I said, you're kidding yourself. Gove

There's one thing that counteracts those 8 things though... PIRATES Been playing the game for a couple of days now. Every time on my easy, small game I've been building up then been completely wiped out by pirates. At least you can turn off pirates though. I bought the game (Trinity) and, when I got it, I put it in my CD tray and...nothing. The computer makes the first noise it usually makes when a new CD/DVD gets put in, but nothing follows (usually there is a loudish whir as the CD/DVD loads up and when it's read generally). I sent it back and got the game somewhere else. I put it in and the same happened. My computer meets all the minimum requirements and I think all the recommended requirements. It reads and writes
