.record is the ingame format, obviously you need SoaSE to view them. But then you get a complete replay of the whole game, not just a few select scenes. I for one would really like having a replay from this sort of game!
Let's do an unscientific poll: Who here would like to see a game setup option of: A) Toggle Pirates off on (easy to understand) B) Slider setting Pirate strength (more flexible but more complicated) C) Keep it as it is.
Again - it's not their strength, it's their frequency. So given the options above, I'd have to go with (A). Or (D): A slider for the delay between raids. And (A) definitely for the random maps. (No
Indeed, thank you for the first RTS game since Total Annihilation that I enjoy! The depth of the empire and ressource management is nearly on par with that of a TBS, the speed of the game is leisurely enough to allow for decent strategising and the map editors / generators will allow for lots and lots of replayability.
1) Perhaps the most important one, the speed of the game should scale the time between pirate attacks. On a Slow game (which I prefer), the resource flow is too slow to make a pirate attack every 12min reasonable to deal with. Scale the basic numbers along with the rest of the delays and the ballance'll be retained with only minor coding requirements. 2) On the random maps, add an option for No Pirates. Then the node/planet generator for the maps just won't use PiratePlanet
Good to know. It does make the concept of the 'local' folders kinda moot though. Any chance of fixing this? I like the idea of just grabbing my profile folders and burning them for backup. Plus, in the case of a reinstall it's very easy to forget the user-created content this way. :(
Cool! Thanks! (Is the normal way to update still SDC, or do we have to manually check the website every now and then?)
It happens with the base 'blank' map and the tutorial map, but in any case... Here are three files that produce the error: [link="http://www.pnd-clan.de/~rev/downloads/sins/2-Symmetry.galaxy"]Custom map[/link] [link="http://www.pnd-clan.de/~rev/downloads/sins/test.galaxy"]Blank starter map[/link] [link="http://www.pnd-clan.de/~rev/downloads/sins/GalaxyForgeTutorial.galaxy"]Tutorial map[/link] Is there any debug file that I could post as well?
Pirate strength is determined by several factors including the size of the bounty, the amount of development in the game's gravity wells, etc. Pirate are fairly integral to the game and if you play them right, they can turn the tide for you (or against you).
It's fine that their strength is adjusted, but how about the frequency? In a small game on slow I end up fighting pirates and no-one else. Also, the descri
Speaking of the Forge, has anyone actually made a playable map? Currently there are several reports where edited galaxies don't work in game.
I tried another thing. Used the ingame designer to generate a map, loaded it into the Forge, saved and ... instant defeat. So, basically, the Forge isn't usable currently.
How about this, at least: Pirate frequency doesn't scale with game speed. E.g. I play on 'slow' because I like having enough time to think. That means that I've barely repaired my fleet and deployed them to a planet when the next raid starts. Adjusting the frequency probably would be enough and wouldn't break the current maps. Either automatically (depending on game speed) or, please, a slider somewhere during game setup. The current frequency makes it little fun for me, especi
A checkbox would be nice anyway. Maybe I want to play one of the smaller maps without pirates? Or maybe I want a randomly generated one? Of course, someone could go and make a whole mapset of the default maps without the pirate bases - if the Forge would work. But that is much work for a feature that player should be able to switch on/off.
I tried creating my own little solar system using the Forge. It seems that whenever I try to load it into the game it results in an instant 'Defeat' screen. This also happens with the tutorial map from Zoomba - load it into the game, 'play' -> as soon as the loading is finished: Defeat.
Yes, zoom-to-cursor is a much underestimated function in todays games. The auto-lock also is quite nice, so overall a very well done camera control system. I only wish there was a way to switch the functionality of the middle and right mouse buttons...
Okay, this may sound stupid... But how do I buy something with tokens? SDC says "10 tokens available", but nowhere in the store checkout procedure I get the option to actually USE them?
Well, I bought the game with tokens from totalgaming.net, and I've received my serial instantly. Lucky me, because I'm downloading with full speed right now. For my as european, those tokens are really great (thanks to the weak US dollar). Those 70 bucks for 10 tokens translate into 50 euros, which means I bough
Meh. The store still says 'preorder'. :( Oh well... Half an hour to go at the office, hopefully by the time I get home they'll have removed the preorder tag.
As I can't pre-order using PayPal... When will the 'real' game be available in the online store?
Actually, my main reason for not getting a credit card is simple bookkeeping. EC cards / PayPal work instantly on my account. I don't need to keep track of what I paid until the CC company sends me a bill. So, call me lazy. :P Back on topic: I don't know where you live, but if you're inside the DACH zone (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) try www.okaysoft.de It's an import, 47 Euros, but they say available from 8.2., with shipping basically the week after the US
People in Germany don't have credit cards?
It's really uncommon. You simply don't need it. Online stores usually deduct the money directly from your bank account, and offline stores accept EC cards (the ones you use to draw cash from the ATMs). Those cards (actually they're MaestroCar
but people watch it for the ads and an excuse to have a party on a Sunday night.
Actually I find that people don't watch it at all. I'm not talking about Superbowl being irrelevant in the states, it's just a complete non-show here in Europe. If at all, you might find support for rugby. ;) And for the record, have you seen the handball worldcup last year? Popularity rivaled that of the football worldcup. And this time, we even won the whole thing! :D
Did you guys know that the Superbowl is completely irrelevant to the majority of people? :P I'd rather have it on a Friday...
For retailers. Most likely due to translations, I guess. I'm from the EU also (Germany), so I feel with you. However, you can use either a credit card (not very common, at least in Germany) or PayPal to order online. You get instant access to the download and the CD as well, if you want to pay for shipping. However, I'd suggest you start the download early in the morning, later in the day the US servers seem to be favouring downloads from the wrong side of the Atlantic. ;)
The online counter is based on your local time, so it's a rough estimate at best.
Depends... how much memory you got? I have 8GB RAM btw and SoaSE has never used more than 1.2GB even with 25,000 ships.
This reminds me of some discussions over at the GalCiv2 boards. 8gig of RAM (assuming you mean physical RAM, not virtual) don't mean anything unless you are running a 64-bit OS AND the game engine is compiled with the appropriate flags to use large memory address
