No, we were actually playing a LAN game all in the same room. Sadly we played for a few hours without noticing this as each of us was being assailed pretty hard. Only when we thought one of our players was about to be knocked out did we start asking him if he needed help....then he stated that he had wiped out one comp and was on a second thus suddenly raising the question of what the heck was going on.

On Saturday we played a 5-6 hour long game. Somewhere in the middle of the game we ended up with a situation in which two of us lost sync with our third player - without crash - so badly that when we looked at the starmap on his machine he occupied 1/4 of the map and on both of ours he was wiped out and ceased to exist. Literally we went into star systems that he owned - and he could see our fleets moving in - and when we got there we saw that star system occupied by the AI rather th

Well, we've played a multiplayer game every weekend since the syncfix and not had one single crash. For my group at least the game is bulletproof.

Edix, we play usually around 10pm on Friday or Saturday till about 4am. We haven't really been playing online due to us getting together physically on a LAN (3 players) and the fact that prior to this any online multiplaying crashed every time.

Blair, I haven't really seen many confirmations besides myself/Damon (who are both playing together) are you getting many others saying it's fixed?

205 Replies 124,014 Views

Ditto, we played a good big multi and could not get Sins to crash once with the syncfix and prior to that we crashed every time. Thanks to all for the response and fix! Time to enjoy the game ;)

Our group may try to test that patch tonight if we can get together.

Blair, you are Johnny on the spot! I will disseminate this immediately thank you very much! We'll have some data for you shortly. Thanks, John

I believe there is a lot of that out there Frogboy (misdiagnosis, no efforts to personally troubleshoot, etc.) but my group troubleshot this hard and have found out that we have the sync issue just recently thanks to Blair. We initially ran into the NVIDIA bug, replaced the hardware, etc. and still ran into the brick wall. As others have stated it was always rough playing for multiple hours and then it crashes right when the major fleet battles are starting to rage. We didn't start hitting th

Ditto, I sent my e-mail off I'm just glad to be able to assist in some manner so we can get on with playing sins. Thank you Annatar and Blair for your assistance.

Ditto, I think Annatar may have championed this from the pinned post if so thank you and we will try to assist in tracking this sync issue down.

Sounds fair, I just wish I had seen this post much earlier, we burned a TON of time and spent money on new hardware when if we had known (if Blair had known at that time) we could haved money and mental wear and tear. In any case we have buy-on from 3 people (me and my other two compatriots) who crash every game in this manner to test on Friday. I am married, have a pregnant wife, etc. and can only play for one day a week and tomorrow is it. If I can get the three of us set up over the next t

Also Blair what is the time frame for when 1.1 may be out ballpark or at least what time frame are you targeting? Most likely none of my group can/will play until it comes out potentially.

Blair, THANK YOU for the post, what you have posted completely describes the situation that we are seeing and it is great to get confirmation that it is in no way hardware or platform related. My little group DOES get it almost every game however. Can you describe the nature of what is going wrong so that we know what actions in-game trigger it? I might be game to have my group volunteer for 1.4 but some of them are upset enough to not play the game any longer so I may have to see if everyone

Monk, I've read your networking HW guides, etc. definitely good stuff. I have no clue what could be causing the minidumps on our end and they have exclusively occurred in multi. Obviously it's driving us nuts. So you have tested multi on all of those platforms? It seems that the likelihood of a dump increases for us as we play for in excess of an hour or so and there are more variables to track in-game is about the only correlation I have found. Annatar, thanks for the link I'll go hit the

Oh yeah, and Wildsage you seem to have the best luck, what is your system config since it seems moderately stable at one crash. I am running the following: XP SR2 Q6600 ATI 3870 ASUS MB 4 gb RAM Some of the other systems all of which have crashed at one point or another (before and after Vista SR1): Vista SR 1 Q6600 ATI 3870 ECS MB 4 gb RAM Vista 64 Ultimate SR1 E6750 ATI 3870 and prior to that dual and single Nvidia 79

All, this is getting pretty heated but in perusing all of the forums for minidump information I see far more replies from Annatar than I do from IC on the topic; in fact I see Annatar in a TON of these threads commentating...sometimes helpful and sometimes commentating. You spend a lot of time coming to the defense of IC and some on helping. I must also say that your suggestion to get a refund was something that I took as snide in text when I was reaching out for help to the community after tr

Annatar, sounds like you understand the pain. I don't think that any of us unknown quantity of crashers (under which every single one of my friends that play each on a different platform and OS suffers) hate IC or anything like that, we merely want that crux of future development of which I'm sure there are a limited number of cycles to focus on getting the game to work in a stable manner for the people that are having crashes. I wouldn't be this vocal if I didn't LOVE the game. I am super fr

I was a loyal Nvidia buyer for a decade since ATI couldn't code a stable driver during that time frame if their life depended on it but recently it seems like ATI and Nvidia have switched places. I recently bought my first ATI card and haven't had any driver issues on any games (that I am aware of) but there were TONS of Nvidia driver issues recently. Just an FYI that none of us were ATI fanatics that's for sure but in this recent round they seem to be more stable. Hopefully Nvidia will get i

Annatar11 we are reasonable people that want a working game. One of our players asked for a refund since we can't play the game and was referred to Stardock where he is pursuing that. If that works out then I'll get a refund and then come back and buy the game months down the road at bargain basement prices when it actually works. How do you know that there aren't many people minidumping are you so tunnel visioned to think that since it works for you it works for others and that everyone else

Phazon, check out my earlier statement. My buddy actually sold his NVIDIA cards because he thought he was responsible for the MP dumps we were constantly experiencing. It didn't go away. As stated, I am a network engineer, he is a systems engineer, our third player is a desktop guy. We are not spring chickens. He has parsed through the dumps and submitted them repeatedly. We are all running pretty beefy machines all running ATI 3870 cards, all have 4 gigs of ram. We kill all tasks on ever

Yes, my compatriots submitted Minidumps. Seeing that we have waited 3 weeks and no 1.4...and 1.4 isn't even addressing the issues...how many months are we expected to wait to play a game we purchased at release? As a purchaser of a game what should my expectation be? 1.1 could be a month or month(s) out. Is this all acceptable?

Let me relate my experience here. 1. Playing with 3 IT professionals, 1 network engineer (myself), 1 systems engineer, 1 desktop support. 2. 2 of the systems are Q6600 quad cores and 1 an E6750. 3. I am running XP SP2, one running Vista Ultimate SP1, one running Vista Home SP1. 4. We all love sins and have had so many issues that one of us sold his two NVIDIA cards and got a an ATI 3870. Now all 3 of us have ATI 3870's. 5. All of us have 4 gig of ram although mine
