Even if it was only a graphics update I'd still get it. My friends and I STILL play SC1 once in a while over Hamachi, no other game have given longer replayability and fun (closest 2nd would be Heroes of Might and Magic III). I think they're tweaking and adding just enough to make it fresh. I like the heavier focus on infestation for the Zerg and things like that. The single player campaigns should be groovy with their selective mission approach like a META map, and of course it'll be b

I've had trade chains go as long as 7 but at that point it stopped expanding/adjusting itself. I find it slightly annoying also that I sometimes have to wait to build a trade port on one planet that's at a 'dead end' because I want to force the trade chain in another direction - the AI has been poor at re-adjusting trade lines in my experience.. I made suggestions before to let us specificy our 'preferred' or 'official' trade line within the game mechanics (ie we make our own trade chai

I don't mind that you can't scale/throttle your economy back down if you loose a massive number of ships, it makes the decision to go ahead to the next tier more important/risky. But that said, I definately think the number of ships/fleep points given from each tier needs to scale with the number of stars/planets in the game.

You need to research the long distance jump tech, and then you jump from one Star's grav well to another...next time though, you should take a few minutes to use the search option or check the manual (which I admit I haven't done so I'm not if this answer is in there, but IMO it should be if it's not)

Yes, you go ahead and do that because we can make do without useless over the top sarcastic posts like that. Especially when there are some legit imbalances that exist in the game; consolidation threads make things much easier for the devs and help improve the game. I agree with the PJI needing crazy improvements, I'm a big fan of having PJI's totally prevent jumping between two grav wells if BOTH of those wells have a PJI in them. I also agree that it's bad and still need mor

Yep it's a good defensive measure as well because it prevents other players from sieging then immediately capping one of your lost planets due to your superior culture there. This forces them to build up their own culture, which may mess up their strategy/preferred research path. Also might make them have to spend logistics slots on broadcast towers in adjacent planets rather than tradeports, shipyards, etc. Either that, or they have to sit around with a bunch of their cap ships :)

I'd also be interested in more info on how the 'trade network' bonuses work. I just finished a game where at some point my 'trade network' (white line) stopped moving across my empire as I expanded and built Trade Centres. I saw no reason for the line to stop and not auto-adjust itself, but alas it pooped out on me at 5 or 6 planets. Maybe an option to let us manually create a trade ntwork/white line among our trade centres would be nice? Actually even better, I'd love to see

Lot of great thoughts and ideas in here, my condolences to Ironclad for having to pick and choose :( I agree that PJI's need a huge boost. I'd like to see them prevent any jumps out of the grav well for enemy fleets entirely (until destroyed), or at least prevent jumping through phase lanes that have a PJI at BOTH ends. Siege frigates are annoying as hell when massed. I'd like to see their dmg either neutered, or cap greatly increased (Again). Planetary defenses are p

Increasing their fleet cap cost a little more may work. My friend was saying he wanted the planetary defense guns to either be able to blast mostly everything in the grav well (range) or at least make it so if they're built within x range of a planet (really close) that should make them in an orbiting state and thus be 'mobile' around the planet. I kind of liked that idea because it would allow them to focus-fire on siege frigs. I don't really like the full grav well range idea, but then it migh

Well I'm not a huge fan of upkeep, but it does help the 'smaller guy' in some games. Like you guys already mentioned, it makes players who have reached their max think twice about going ahead with the next level or not which helps prevent an even greater gap in unit # advantage. It also gives the small player a chance to slowly chip away at the bigger players economy and ability to recover from the chipping away by slowing taking out planets and if possible, ships too. It may not be a

I think this release is great in that we have three races that ARE similar, but still have some depth in terms of differences in research and ship function. I definately agree that completely different play styles/units/factions are the difference between 10/10 and 8/10 games. I'm not really sure how many changes they could realistically make to the existing three races without essentially completely stripping them down and starting from the bare bones. Ideally, I would have liked to ha

For Windows to read all 4GB of RAM you need to get the 64-bit version of Vista or XP. Your 512MB of Video Card memory is also counted the total system memory under 32-bit operating systems, so you'll be losing out on a lot of RAM if you stick with 32-bit (Windwos usually sees around 3.2GB total, 512MB of which would be your Video Card). Your PSU can either be upgraded or downgraded. If you never plan on adding a second GT or GTS (I'd also say get the GT over the GTS) then you can downgr

Alas, my dreams are crushed once again! :( Oh well, hopefully the Gamma/retail version provides me with another means to effectively raid and harrassement my oponents... even if I don't get to see the pink space ponies being sucked into the vaccuum of space! (Or their breeding habits, if that's what you're into Annatar:O)
I heard the fleet cap was o longer determined by planets, that changes alot right there as the need to expand is not so immidiate.
Groovy, that was probably one of my number one hopes for release! I was hoping they would somehow provide fleet cap points via orbital structures that are super weak and thus excellent targets for quick hit and run raids that could actually do some damage :D (which I think SINS lacks)

EBITAD, Are you having someone build the computer for you, or is this some kind of 'package' deal from a retailer? If you're not comfortable building a computer yourself (it's really not so bad), you may want to check out NCIX.com (or NCIXUS.com if you're in the states) because they will build a PC for you based on the specific parts you want if you pay the $25 fee for it to be done. Personally, I would get a Q6600 instead of the E6850 and overclock it to 3.0Ghz because it is
Yeap , all problems link and connect. One connected problem is the fleetpoint system being the bottleneck that dictates the size of your fleet. Why attack resources and split to attack resources if it doesnt effect his fleet because his fleet is bottlenecked by fleetpoints anyway. I say let resources dictate the size of fleets. If you kill
I actually had a thought like this a little while ago, which led to me thinking that some sort of 'farm' structure

You guys have good points about why moving Frigates in combat could present problems/issues, but I think it's a big issue in itself that they just sit there while the main batteries of cap ships open up on them! Normally I'm all for gameplay > realism, but honestly if I was in a dinky frigate up against a cap ship I would definately make use of my ships speed! This could possibly be implemented through another 'stance' option, in addition to the 'hold position' 'attack grav well' etc.,
