So......I'm confused..... ;P This guy wants his "ownership" of the hardware he buys from apple/sony/whomever to be absolute, but by the same token then shouldn't SONY have the right to complete "ownership" of Sony-Online and be able to dictate TERMS under which and within which connection to same is allowed? an old saying "........good for the goose........good for the gander....." comes to mind............ ;)
starkers, Again....(as I've already stated above) unless your "router" has more than a 100MHz proc with 8 or 16MB of RAM it's "firewall" isn't much of a firewall. Running software tests like "can I be pinged" or....."which ports are [i]open[/i] etc." are not really an indication of being "firewalled" by todays standards. A true firewall performs traffic checks based on ALG's and has a proc/mem that can actually [i]properly[/i] perform SPI (for what it's worth).&n

Uvah, If you don't have at least one account as an "administrator" it won't let you take admin rights away from another. My question is........ are you sure that there is at least one admin user in the list?

I think you're missing my point or maybe I'm not being clear enough. No malware I know of is capable of being *fully* functional without making some serious modifications to your system. Those modifications require "elevated priviledges" not given to a "limited account" not to mention if one were to modify certain other settings in a computer system's "local security policy" it is absolutely possible to secure a system in such a way as to never need any of that

I know all about threatfire and/or other products like it such as mamutu by emsisoft. All I'm saying is that education regarding one's local security policy (accounts, priviledges etc.) and specific browser settings and what they all do and are needed for can never and in my opinion should never be replaced by "some software".

Personally I'm of the school of thought that I like my computer resources to not be eaten up by something that may or may not actually be helping. For instance. Zero-day attacks/infections are most likely not going to be detected/prevented by this, so what have you done in the meantime? Given away system resources and potentially bogged your browsing down? wow....those little netbooks have really come down in price. Good deal! I bought three of them back when they were 399.00 each, set them up configured everything and then promptly never really used them....hehe I found the sound of the tiny little fan annoying (the smaller the cooling-fan the more noise it makes).
