I was actually able to solve my problem. It was such a stupid problem too (as it always is). I miss typed 1 number in my IP address when forwarding. Monk, your guide and forum responses were very helpful in solving my hosting problems. Thank you.
You're welcome. Glad I could help.
Hey Monk. Are you a master yet at Sins yet?
lol no! I haven't actually played the game much, been so busy helping everyone in getting their hosting issues worked out. :D I'm sure (should we ever get together in-game) I'll be shown just how "noobish" I really am.
Welcome. Now help us spank forum trolls.......hehe :)
Please contact me tomorrow. I will have my TeamSpeak server up again and I'll talk you through getting your issues solved. thanks, the Monk
If you actually took the time to read the posts/guides the community takes the time/effort to provide you'd know the answer to your question. I've posted the answer to your question several times over now, I refuse to do it again. (its also in my guide "Networking and SINS") the Monk
@SpaceDebris 1. I wasn't talking about "lagging" either. I was pointing out: - the information which was available to anyone "researching" a game before buying. (even long before release day) - it doesn't matter how much/little processing the HOST does, SINS can never be made to work as other (fps-type) games work with a client-server model. SINS is fundamentally peer-to-peer, which means the HOST is not so much a HOST as a "ref" making sure every
Please download and read my guide "Networking and SINS" which is linked-to from the Techical/Hosting FAQ or page 3 (POST #66) in the stickied thread "how to: see/connect-to/host servers" in the technical forum. The guide contains all the information needed to be able to play/host SINS! Should you have any issues after reading my guide I'll be more than happy to talk you through the steps to success via my TeamSpeak server. the Monk
I see maybe a few hundred players online at the peak. Since the Sins host computer doesn't need to do much processing, one server for the whole community would be enough and could have avoided all the misery.
Lesson in SINS game mechanics: 1. ALL computers run the entire simulation themselves. 2. The HOST does nothing more than "synchronize" the information between all players. 3. This is also why the slowest system will ca
Guys you need to understand people like CyberMage. In another thread he claimed you needed to "cd.." to get back to the root "c:\" before being able to type "ipconfig" at the command prompt. Interestingly he remained strangely silent after I pointed out to him that, that wasn't at all the case since "c:\windows\system32", etc. are in the system PATH statement making it possible to type system-related commands from anywhere! or Avoiding the command-pro
well i cant host or join games i have a dsl modem and it connected 2 a old d-link router that i cant get into 2 forward ports in i think that may be the problem but not sure but i have the port forward on my computer 6112 but i still cant join or host any games im a computer tech in training but im not to good with networking tho any help would be very nice killerpain89
Hi, 1. Please download, read and try to follow my second guide "Networking and SINS", li
@ CyberMage 1. Firmware should always be kept up to date. Older firmware can have serious security holes. 2. A newer firmware may give your router the option to enable UPnP 3. UPnP is bad news all around because it "intelligently" tries to "trigger" ports open for traffic. Example: Application wants tcp port 6000 opened for incoming traffic. App >> router (with UPnP tells router to open incoming tcp 6000) internet >> rou
How many times does it need to be said? This is not the developer's fault, it's an issue of home networking. Whenever you play ANY game where you host the game locally on your computer, be it Neverwinter Nights, or anything else, you will have to open the ports to your computer. People seem to think that because they can play WoW - that is, JOIN another game on somebody else's server - Blizzard are amazing coders and Ironclad is just being lazy or something. For the last time -
Please download and read my guide "Networking and SINS" linked-to from the "how to: see/connect-to/host Servers" thread on page 3 (POST #66)stickied in the technical forum. If you follow those instructions exactly, you should have no problem playing/hosting. :) btw.....the latest satisfied "sins-host": [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=408&aid=300373"]WWW Link[/link] If you have any trouble implementing the ins
Tekkor, Please download and read my guide "Networking and SINS" linked-to on page 3 (POST #66) of the the stickied thread "how to: see/connect-to/host servers". It may be that you and your friend are in a "double-NAT" scenario where your cable/dsl modems are also functioning as routers (explained in my guide). Anyway, as fnr has already offered up his time I won't intrude any further. the Monk
Xenpo, You didn't offend. My reply was for "clarification" purposes only. I agree, people often have issues with the "how", even after geeks like us explain the "what". I guess I've just always taken people to task who have issues with the "why". People don't always read a geek the right way. ;) Anyway, I don't really have anything else to add except that with some "coaching" most everyone I've helped to date has agreed that the entire thing was rather painless
, I have a degree in Computer Networking Systems, It's what I do for a living. When I go home to play a game on my pc, I do not want to have to configure my ports because the online client for my game is lacking. I Praise the devs for the wonderful job they've done on this game, I love it. However, in this regard, the average gamer does not know how to do all these things, nor as a matter of good business sense, should they ever have too. As of right now, the setup of multiplayer for this
@ Frogboy No way, you guys rock! Such an AMAZING game, I will be (whenever I find the time..hehe) playing this game for a long time to come. Thank you!
Question, "SOHO" routers, what does "SOHO" stand for? in your guide, "SOHO" routers are D-link, Netgear, Linksys, etc. But what do "SOHO" stand for really?
SOHO = small office / home office In the future I will make an even better attempt at keeping geek-lingo out of my guides! :)
Here is a suggestion: Make it work out of the box - suggestion for devs not you. Most other online games work out of the box and this one should too. It is great that you have taken the time to put together a guide to navigate this mess, but a guide should unnecessary. And even when it does work, ICO still tells you that people will not be able to join your game. You keep trying to tell us that this is not a problem. Well, the number of posts on this site regarding hosting proble
The multiplayer aspect I havn't had much time using, for the chief reason OP ran into. 600 people online, yet 3 games are wanting players. Why after shelving out hard earned money am I required more work forwarding ports on my PC to enjoy it fully? Many people have no knowledge of PC workings, nor do they care. They want to play the game without troubles, as do I. Perhaps this will be changed in a future patch. Thanks~Shaun
Why shouldn't people care (be made to care)
Hmmm...me? Although 6pm EST may be a tad early for me... (I'll host anyway if its too early for me to play :D )
Oh, and the instructions in my guide "Networking and SINS" linked to on page 3 (POST #66) of the "stickied" thread "How to: see/connect-to/host Servers", is a great compliment to the information on www.portforward.com. I am of course always open to suggestions on how to make my guides even better. :) the Monk
To quote myself, once again. :D
@CyberMage 1. The argument that a user of a game shouldn't have to "learn" anything to use it ridiculous. You did have to "learn" to drive a car didn't you? What would you have said to someone complaining about not being able to drive, without recognizing the need to learn how? 2. Just because many games use "encapsulating/tunneling" techniques for their netcode to "bypass" NAT-devices doesn't make that some
I've been so engrosed hosting/playing the multiplayer (so far I've played only TEC) I haven't given the singleplayer a go yet. I'm sure the single-player will more than live up to the standard set by the multiplayer. Thank you for such an amazing game. It makes one realize the "drought" we suffered through while waiting for it's release. :D the Monk
