I have a netgear WR614v6, just did a check of the "status" and I didn't see a 192 ip address. I'm about at my wit's end here. I have no idea why the game doesn't want me to host. I'm a nice guy, I'd be a great host. I unplugged the router and plugged the cable modem directly to the PC. IP doesn't start with 192.
All evidence points to your cable-modem not being setup as a router. All you need to do now is forward the ports I've listed to your PC's

Your firewall/security software is blocking the connection and trying to pop-up infront of the game? Try running your game in "windowed-mode" and see if the pop-up makes it to the front? the Monk
Hey Monk, I might have missed it in your guide, but how do I know if my cable modem is running as a router?
Do you have a router besides your cable-modem? If so, check the WAN IP of your router in the "status" page. If it starts with something like 192.xxx.xxx.xxx then yes your cable-modem is also setup to "route" between the internet and you. If you don't have a router besides your cable-modem, check to see what IP your PC has, if it again starts with

Even if the university were to "open" the required ports (there are some that do) there is still a fundamental difference between ports being "open" and all traffic to that port being "forwarded" on to another (ie. your PC's) IP address and that no university will ever do because then all traffic coming in on that port would be routed to only you! (maybe if you're the dean.....lol) The issue is that with Sins netcode anyone behind a router needs to not only "open" said ports
Correct me if I`m wrong..but I believe "Stardock" (the folks I bought and downloaded SOASE from) responded that the same name and password used for their site was all that was required to log on to the ICO servers? As for the requirements to obtain a "Drivers License", evidently, they are easier to understand than those required to logon to ICO, as I`ve had one of those for 45 years without a single traffic infraction. <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_2 src="http://images.stardock.com/smiles/Win

Are we to understand that you got your drivers license without "learning" anything new? hehe Between the existing forum posts on the subject of port-forwarding, firewall-excepting, sites like (www.portforward.com) a handy little tool called "google" and the opportunity to post in these forums for clarification of instructions (that is after you've read everything the devs and community have offered up their time and effor to put here for you) I'd say you've got every

You do not need UDP! I've posted about this several times already. Try a "netstat" yourselves, you'll see NOTHING is listening on UDP. Every game I've hosted I've only had TCP 6112 (game-port), and TCP 6000 (IC-online) forwarded from the router and opened in any/all firewalls. Works like a charm! the Monk
I'm still having issues hosting a game, even with the proper ports opened in my Linksys router. I'm assuming it's because of the NAT rules are still in effect. Is there any way to set the rules properly short of either buying a new router or ditching it entirely? Maybe switch to 3rd party firmware?
Make sure you're not in a "double-nat" situation (my quide explains what that is). If you are, and are having trouble changing that, contact me....I'll get you on my TS
thx I sent a request to the university to ask them to open them ports for me so I guess we'll know in a few days If you read my posts you'll notice my testing has determined that Windows OneCare and Windows Defender "silently" block SINS. I haven't test other security software. does it still "silently" block it even when windows defender has been disabled/switched off?
<b
As stated, we opened up the ports. In fact, 6112 was already opened due to our using it for other games. We do not control the router, since we are on a campus router, but we have never had a problem like this before. I know from reading the forum, we are not the only ones with this problem, but the request I sent in to technical support 2 days ago has yet to see a response. 6112 is definitely not it, and 6000 is at least opened on our computers, and I cannot imagine why it would be block
Dude, are you getting put-off because I'm adding my input to your thread? I'm not saying you're not helping people, I'm just adding to it. I only had an issue with the terminology you were using when discussing NAT, but never have I insinuated you don't know what you're doing or talking about. Relax...you can take all the credit. @Slimpinto I have been helping as many people as I can. In fact I haven't played more than 2 games in SINS yet (I've hosted plenty, just not played in them) because I've been busy talking people through the steps on my TeamSpeak server. 1. As I've pointed out earlier in this thread, only TCP is used for this game. TCP port 6112 TCP port 6000 2. I've also pointed out several times (and then per

I've said this in another post, but here goes again! :D 1. If you've port-forwarded as per my instructions (TCP 6112 game-port and TCP 6000 IC-online) to your PC's internal IP address then you should not have UPNP enabled! 2. If you've relaxed NAT either by enabling "gaming mode" (on D-link routers) or however the other SOHO routers relax their NAT settings you're helping ensuring that not only the clients who have OPEN-NAT, but also the one's with MODERAT

You do not need upnp enabled if you've port-forwarded. By the way, I have found no evidence that the game uses UDP. I've hosted many games and all of the using ONLY TCP! Enabling "gaming mode" relaxes NAT on that particular router. You've done everything correctly. At this point the latency isn't within your control. Have you each tried a ping-test to your local ISP's gateway? ie. ping -t xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx > pintest.txt (this pipes the output t
Hey, Could directions on how to slacken your NAT setting be posted? Knowing what is causing the problems is interesting, but I have no idea how to fix the problem since no directions were given besides hosting a dedicated server (from what I can tell). Thanks.
I screwed up making an account with my serial key. Not knowing that there wasn't room for the dashes, I went to hit delete and brushed enter on the way and it accepted my account. I log in and I get to a blank players window and the only thing I can press is "Add Player". I assume something is wrong. What should I see? And how do I fix it?
