I've got 5 weapons labs on one planet alone. I click to research charged missiles and it says I need 2 more. When I was at 4 labs it said this. I tried building another (to my current 5), it still says I need 2 more. Seems to be a bug somewhere in how the tech system is counting the number of labs you have. I'm on 1.02.

I'd like to kill those eyes and ears of my enemy, but they're not in system long enough to hurt. How can you kill scouts, particularly in the early game when you don't have interdictor technology. Even with it, I'd be hard pressed to kill one in time without a 1/2 dozen frigates waiting at it's incoming jump point. Scouting is a common 4x need. It's always common that scouts are on suicide missions to gather intelligence. In Sins, scouts have a very impressive survival rate. A bit too i

I had SOTS, played it a couple times and stopped. I found the combat really difficult to control. Ships seemed to splinter and I had a hard time figuring out why they were doing X, Y, and Z. You'd also have these 5 minute combats for the most trivial encounters that were annoying (not sure if they ever added the ability to auto-resolve some combats). However, I haven't played Sins enough to really say if the combat is any better. I do like that Sins is one engine. 4x

Not sure if this is addressable or not, but I've always taking the caps lock key and mapped it to Control on my systems. This works in every application I've ever used, except for some games (but oddly, not all games). SotSE doesn't see the remapping. I have no idea how SotSE gets it's key stroke information, but if there's a way to interpret this it'd be great. I'm constantly hitting caps_lock instead of control to create my groups. Not a big deal, but if it's a trivial lookup

Is there value in trying to manage an actual battle? By default, ships come to a stop when attacking. It seems like you could potentially try to flank or some such, but it's not clear to me that the manuevers add much to your combat capacity. Then add in the fact you've got a bunch of other things going on and I'm wondering if the battles are really just "fluff" so to speak, in that they're fun to watch, but in a real game you don't have that luxury. You put together a fleet of complem

I keep seeing people talk about the frame rates they're getting, but I'll be damned if I can find a setting that lets me determine the frame rates. I wanted to play with different settings and see what I can max my system out at and still get a decent frame rate.
READ THE FRONT OF THE BOX!!!!!! REAL TIME STRATEGY!!!!!
Ouch, *wince*. Yea, that's probably not good... I hadn't seen the box cover before, just what's on this website, which fairly consistently has mentioned 4X. I suspect there will be a good number of "casual" buyers that will see RTS on the box and
This clearly is not the game for you. Move on. There's no such thing as a 'quick' 4x. BUT this game is a RTS , not 4x... it does have 4x elements.
No, it's a 4x game with RTS elements. It freaking says "4X" right in Gameplay link off the home page. The first 4 gameplay items mentioned are the 4 X's of 4X gaming....
Aloha! Look here: "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\" You will see something named "manual" - trust me it is there. Is this not in the FAQ? I think for the next update IC should install a link on the desktop to it.
Yea, highly recommended. That's such a common thing these days I just assumed no link at install time meant no manual came with it. ...rummage through menu... Yea, a random sample o
I dunno, I think the pacing works well for this game. How long do you need to take to decide to research one thing or another? Or tell your ships where to go. It sounds like you just want another turn based strategy game.
Exactly, but no one makes TBS anymore so we have to make due with RTS. I'd really prefer an adjustable speed for single player games. I can have it go faster early, slower in general late, and at an absolue crawl if I want. Total Annihilation:

I've downloaded the game, installed, run through the tutorials, but I'd really like to read through the manual that describes some things in detail. Is the manual available for download as well?

Post like the OP's are just a clear sign to me people don't know how to read. I haven't hardly played the game, but I'd know better than to complain about those issues because I actually read the forums and game play descriptions. This game was never billed as any of the things the OP seems to think it should be. It's not an RTS, it's a realtime 4x. It's not a skirmish game either. It's an empire game. Whining it's not what it's not supposed to be is stupid, like complaining Oblivion wa

I've run the bonus pack add on, but I'm not sure what it actually adds so I'm not sure it worked. The reason I'm not positive it worked is after I click "Finish" in the final install dialog, the installer process hangs out forever in my process list. The GUI for it closes, but the process never goes away. Makes me wonder if the install finished or not, which brought me to the question of "what's in the add on?".

I went to order the Colletor's edition, but $15 shipping and handling! What the is the box made of? Pure steel? I'd love to order it, but there's no way I can justify $15 in S&H.
