The speed of a multiplayer game is quite slow. Yes, a 1v1 can be done in a reasonable amount of time, but it'ws not nearly as enjoyable as a 2v2 map. I enjoy the long matches, but I don't have time for them. Here are some suggestions on a faster settings (primarily for 2v2 and up): 1) Small maps harboring 2v2. Let's say the map holds only 4-12 planets with a single star. 2) Rapid Building: Buildings construct faster 3) Multi-Manufacture: Builds 2

So, I've been away for a while, but I haven't forgotten about SoaSE. When I left (a few months after release) the matches were simply too long for me spend time on... no matter how much I enjoyed them. ;) So, have things changed? Are the options that allow for faster matches (besides 1v1)? The new mico-expansion concerns me, as it claims to have added more defenses. This, to me, means that matches could take even longer.
Let me describe the battle vs TEC: Focus everything on enemy capital ship. TEC has large ships with large hull and shields. Your mothership will cast Malice (cca 20% damage distribution). Radiance will fire the antimatter destruction co enemy capital ship takes 30dmg/s. If you have Rapture your damage is +30%. As you are fireing on that large mothership small ships also take damage. Illuminator Vessel can fire with their side beam, so its quite a show. With your shields, hull and bea

It didn't really bite them on the ass... It just goes to show that piracy is running rampant. People were bitching because they couldn't play their pirated game, and unfortunately Iron Lore didn't come forth and slap those imbeciles. :P As a matter of fact, this is perfect proof as to why piracy is bad. The anti-piracy protection from the game really wasn't much, and negligible if you actually owned the game ( I actually own the game :P ). I actually like the system that they have in pl

I'll probably make all of my maps to this style. I always avoid the one where your only separated from your neighbor by an ice planet. I really hate that map.

There is no v1.03 (yet) and thus there is no changelog. Since you are not from Stardock or Ironclad, this thread should not actually be labeled "official." If you were searching for an "official" change log thread, it would have been pretty easy to find if it did exist. For now, you will have to speculate from a list of suggestions found here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=176873

open up the stardock myColors, and click "add registration." At this point you will put your SoaSE key into the registration and it will begin downloading your new (and awesome) desktop theme.

Focus fire yields diminishing returns... So, I wouldn't put a whole fleet on them. You want to put a group of capital ship killers together and kill the cap ships while your other ships do their jobs (killing their target ships). It seems like you have drone cruisers in the midst of that battle... they don't need to be that close. I'd also recommend poking and prodding your enemies frequently to simply see what ships they have. This will allow you to prepare the proper ships to counter

The phase gates aren't a problem... but Returning Armada is something that I think of as a Super Weapon. It's not the free ships that bothers me, but rather the speed at which a player can acquire these ships... I'm a little irked by the fact that it provides ships that you have never researched. I do play Vasari, and I do enjoy the Dark Fleet... but I wouldn't mind seeing some improvements to Vasari early game in place of a small adjustment to the Vasari late game. Of course, there ar

Well, I doubt that they are all n00bs. Ship spammers could easily be players that are: lazy, believe they are facing n00bs, n00bs themselves, or simply trying something new. A host should never boot anyone from a game, unless their messages are bothersome to everyone, or they simply are lagging (and thus slowing everyone down). There is no point in being a bad host, or a sore loser, or an ass. If you want people to learn, you need to be willing to teach them. When I play games I don't m

Cool idea... but wouldn't an Oceanic planet have constant, and monstrous, storms? Storms lose power when the core passes over land... of course, it's not like a galactic civilization couldn't control a planet's weather. At the very least there could be a storm planetary modification. Anyway, the planet should probably have lowered defenses, since anything on the surface would probably go down from a simple bombardment. Population growth could be high though, it may have a low
And the Vasari light frigates(Ravastra Skirmishers) won't work because they neither have the range nor the firepower to fight Guardians, and they're more expensive than Assailants as well.
They are designed to fight the support Cruisers such as the Guardian. Those frigates are going to do optimum damage against them, and I'd say an overall greater damage than the Assailant... that is, of course, if the skirmishers can get into range. :P It's not like the Skirmish

Phase missiles can do the job, but that may be difficult if you can't get into range. :P I use the Guardian for the very purpose of herding my enemies. I believe an opposing strategy would be long range weapons. I'm not sure if the assailant has the inherent range to fight from outside of the repulsion area... there is a tech that increases the range a bit. I recommend using Kanrak Assailants with the range upgrade, drone cruisers, and Subverters with Distortion Field. All of those shi

The advice isn't completely invalid though. Besides I don't see anything that states this thread is only about playing against the AI. I was simply sharing a strategy that works for me. I'm still fine tuning it, Vasari is a bit of a pain early game, as a rush will undoubtedly wreak havoc on such a plan. Of course, the Advent strategy works just fine against players and AI.

I'm one of those people that doesn't care about capital ships. I'll build the first because it is free (only cost is the factory). Anyway, my Advent build is always fun. Get Drone Cruisers Get Gaurdians Get Illumninators Get Repulsion (guardian power) Get Illuminator power Get steal anti-matter (Disciple power) Form a small army with a few Guardians (5 or so will do), a bunch of drone cruise

Alt+click on a ship will select all ships of that type in the same area. Using the search feature at the top of the screen will make it easy to locate colony ships... It'll select 'em all.

https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx?libid=70 It's where everyone uploads their maps. :) At least, it's a good location to put your map for downloading, even if you still choose to use your own site.

Yeah, I don't really play 1v1 maps, and I don't see a point in playing against AI. I like having multiple people around. My favorite matches are 2v2v2. :) My Vasari strategy works. I suppose it's hard to fully explain the strategy involved, but it works. In small maps I am more likely to go for a militaristic route than go for the dark fleet. Although, I usually play Advent for the small maps. Overall, my strategy relies on my basic frigates and their ability to repair themselves. The o
(asteroids just don't count in my book). Why not?
I see asteroids as being like a mining colony or something similiar. I don't see them as being fully terraformed planets where people are truly living. So, it'd be like an outpost more than a full fledged colony. If it could hold a larger population it would be a bit more suitable. Of course, that's just how I see things. Odds are, if t
