FalShia, I suggest mounting the gun closest to the bow on the underside (ventral?).

I can't wait for this mod. very sexy FX.
Technically, The Kol is the First TEC warship in hundreds of years. I think there's a need for a destroyer class, between cruiser and capital. I'd expect that in an expansion pack.
sweet. That sound very promising. did you do a different model for each race?
This forum post is not about polycount, or hi-res quality of ships. That has never been my beef. It's been about the art design, and it's been about fixing the ugly units using the textures and model resources of the game to make it as easy as possible. FalShia has agreed to work with me on creating a model pack. I intend to arrange the pack so the user can pick and choose which models they want to put into their game.
@Irashi That's a great looking Missle Cruiser. But, IMO the TEC capitals look great. They're beefy, lumbering, and utilitarian in design. They're the set of TEC ships that I think are fantastic they way they are and should be left alone.
[quote]@FalShia Feel free to use my ideas if you want. Just give me cred. reuse the original mesh as much as you can and the existing textures. That will cut down the remodeling time. LOLit's not really your designs, you've cut and pasted sections of someone elses work.[/quote] I said "my ideas". I never said they were my designs. @FalShia Those screenshots look great! thanks for making my idea a reality.
[quote]Artists are highly paid? When did that happen?[/quote] Artists with talent and who have a business sense are highly paid. Most "artists" in the purest sense of the word are flakes, or don't want to "sell out" (yet, they want money. how does that work?) These types also don't know how to network or have the skills to make connections to the business world. Those are the artists that are poor.
@Bertl Thanks for the correction. It's Ventral, not dorsal. Don't know marine biology terminology! @Bubb9 I agree, Ironclad will not waste time/money on this. unless it's for an expansion pack to sell. This is a shout out to you guys, the game's mod community, to take the inititive and remodel them. I see all this talk about Star Wars, Star Trek, Gundam, blah, blah, etc. Why take on such a huge mod project (which would take months or a year to complete) when these model can
ok, one more becuase I'm on a roll. [link="http://www.flickr.com/photos/part_time_rockstar/2295832616/"]Javelis LRM[/link] The sloped neck of the Javelis was completely unecessary and lacked any obvious reason why anyone (civilian or military) would design it to have one. when designing Alien ships you can get get away with such minor oddities (see, Defence Vessel, Aegis Drones, Purge Vessel, etc) because it's an alien culture. When designing a human space race you have to retain a s
Alright, whipped up 4 basic change ideas. I'm not going to spend anymore time on them than I already have. what do you think? [link="http://www.flickr.com/photos/part_time_rockstar/2295739210/"]Defence Vessel[/link] Reverted the tail to have a sleek look and feel. [link="http://www.flickr.com/photos/part_time_rockstar/2295734892/"]Aegis Drone Ship[/link] This ship was the most work as it was quite possibly the ugliest spaceship I have ever seen in a video game. My wa
Great art design does not require high polycount and hi-res textures. I have this feeling that Ironclad didn't hire a concept artist (is there a dev that can confirm/deny this?), and they subcontracted it out. It's understandable as they are just a small, indie company still and would have to keep the payroll expenses down. People keep praising Relic's art design- well, kids, that's what you get from big game companies. Relic/EA/Blizzard/Valve. They all have VERY tal
I worked on the weekend on this- quick photoshop editing, and found that many of the ships design can be retained, just tweaked. For example, the Kodiak's main turret I moved to the underside of the ships, thus minimizing the tank look. The garda I have flipped upside down, and mounted auto cannons on the topside. it now doesn't look like a rowboat. Simple tweaks is what I'm going to aim for. I'm not going to invest too much time doing complete redesigns that wouldn't likely get use
Instead of spending months and months working on a TC or IP mod for Sins, can someone please, o please, do new models for existing units!? Redesigns for: Garda Flak Kodiak Heavy Aegis Drone Ship and a few others. Some of the ship models are completely non-sensical, even for alien races. I'm capable of producing concept artwork for anyone who is interested in doing the modeling. This game doesn't need Star Trek, or Star Wars, of Babylon 5 mods. What is need
I've played around with the map maker a lot. The slider bar in the upper right (map size, i believe) is what determines the general size of the area. Just by looking at the map result I suspect the coding is designed to put equal distance between the empires and the center of the map so there are no unfair advantages to any player. Basically, if you have a very large map area but few planets to fill it, it will look like what you have. if you want to keep the layout you got to decrea
I agree. I want a game like Starcraft where I can play a Big Game Hunterz map mucho$$$ and spam dragoons the whole game. that's real strategy.
Let me first say, In regards to Sins, yes, they should've had a SP campaign. I was disappointed when they didn't. However, the extremely flexible custom map editor saved them from my negative opinions of doom. I spent an hour playing around with the editor, see what functions did what. And then I decided that I could create my own storyline. For example- 3 races: TEC, Advent, Vasari, on a single star map of 100 planets- I called it the Hel
I play games for the single-player experience more than I do for the multiplayer. I'd say that when it come to my purchase, it's a 70/30 balance factor between the SP and the online potential of the game. But, some people are the other way around. Some people don't care about plot, or characters.. only the ability to compete and frag other people online. That's fine, I like it too. It's because of this 'balance' between different types of gamers that developers should always be d
Look at the credits for Ironclad- (in the manual) only about 7 people in the company. And after 4 years of development they had to release a product. Especially since it's their first product and they have no financial capital built up from previous projects. Because the models have 'turrets' in their design, I suspect Ironclad wanted to have moving turrets. But due to time constraints and budgetary reasons they had to leave it out of release. For those who say
1)building frigs do not stack. they just mean you can build more than one thing at the same time. It would be nice if they did though. this is a TEC building perspective though- the Advent have stacking construction frigs. 2)frig shipyard work in unison. That is, if you have 3 frig yards and you want to build 3 units they will all build at the same time. unison construction only work for shipyard in the same grav well- not all yards accross the star system. the same premise a
Just import the models from HW2- Leave the gameplay mechanics of Sins just the way it is. The frigate and cruiser ship models in Sins definitely leave something to be desired. HW2 had excellent ship models- I just loved zooming in on them all the time. HW2 is finished in terms of making money- a HW2 mod for Sins is just free advertising of the HW franchise for Relic. just ask politely (and pitch it like how I just described) and they probably say yes. Honestly, now that S
Novalith only kills planets. Vasari only hits ships(and structures?)
Yea, I don't hate the Research Tree- it was just a good example of the steep learning curve. I'm fine with that. I'm a smart guy I can learn things! There was a point at the 2 hour mark where I sat back and realized "Damn, this game is deep!" More deep than any other RTS ever. This, my friends, is a good thing.
So, I finally jumped into the game and had a good 4 hour gameplay. Played as TEC, and tried out many things. By the end of the 4 hours I had a pretty good feel of the game- and it was 4am I had to stop get some sort of sleep! Some things came to mind right away: Ship Models- While a few are simply badass and aweseome (TEC Capitals... Hell, all the caps in general are fantastic), most frigates and crusiers are just okay, others are just ugly looking. The Javelin LRM comes to m
I 'lost' my Marza last night for brief time. I thought it was destroyed in the attack but discovered it had jumped into the grav well off to the side, far from the action.
