Observers noted that certain birds on isolated Pacific Islands (Galapagos, I believe) exhibited easily measure, rapid shift in beak size depending on the weather cycle. (I don't remember the names, but its El Nino and another phase, one has lots of water the other doesn't) When the dry cycle occurred, the birds average beak size shifted, drastically, towards the larger beaks that could handle the larger seeds, when the wet season occurred, they evolved towards smaller beaks that could g

Basically from watching the replay, it looks like an AI empire surrenders after effectively killing its income. It over-expands, and doesn't bother to improve the majority of its planets, resulting in an almost negative income. Considering that it was continually pumping out cobalts (whenever it could scrape the money together), this seems like a pretty severe tactical mistake - AIs shouldn't be surrendering during the expansion phase of the game, although they also shouldn't be allo
I wish I could, but I won't be getting home until around 10pm. Bh
And you think that's bad, just wait until you take a couple of X-Wings vs the Death Star. ;) Bh
http://www.2404.org/reviews/4164/Sins-of-a-Solar-Empire-ReviewWait, what facts aren't straight in that review? The only one I saw is that the combat takes place exclusively in the 2D plane (which I would argue IS true 95% of the time).
Well, here are a few examples:
Since crystal and metal mines can both be exhausted

+1 to missile damage and so forth

to research and several new abilities which can be granted
I've had multiple AIs surrender, but like CoreInsanity says, there is no announcement when the AI surrenders. So unless it's the last one, you aren't likely to notice it immediately (if at all). I only noticed it when going to the pirate screen to post bounties (you can't post bounties on surrendered AI). The odd thing is that the "surrendered" AI were still attacking me, and I still needed to attack and conquer their planets. So it would appear that a surrender is really only useful
Since patching to v1.03, I've noticed that the AI doesn't seem to do a proper job of targeting certain buildings under circumstances that I've yet to be able to nail down. More specifically, my units seem to no longer auto-target Frigate Factories. They'll bomb a planet, destroy all the other buildings in orbit, but leave it completely alone. This seems to happen about 75% of the time. Similarily, I caught the AI completely ignoring a bunch of Turrets. I ordered my

I think switching to Hard AI would have made it a little tougher. Part of the ease of victory was the fact that we hammered the same AI twice with the Pirates right off the bat, and I followed the Pirates in and took that AI out. That left only one in our system, which we could tag-team. Pogue was the one having troubles, but we were fast enough taking out our AIs that we could come to his aid in time. After that, it was pretty easy. Against Hard AIs, we would have had more attacks/
Sure, works fine for me. So tonight at 8:30 it is? Bh
Any of those nights are fine for me. Realistically, I think our game only has about 30-45 mins left in it anyway, so it should be a short session. Bh
I'm home again this weekend, so I'd be interested in jumping into another game. Bh
Sadly I won't be able to get into the next game, I'm away from home, and while the internet is sufficient for web browsing, I'm not able to play online. Bh
I hope you don't mind if I critique the game a little... I think the thing that gave me a better footing in the game was simply that I'm a more aggressive player. Which is odd, because I'm also a horrible turtler. ;) But the trick early game (vs the AI, anyway) is to do two things: 1) Scout out territory, so you know where chokepoints are, and 2) Expand as much as feasible to ensure you have the resources necessary to work with, and to make sure you can use those chokepoints.<br
Bhruic is a pseudo-newbie (he really is a good player, and a generous ally).
Thanks. ;) I'm am a newbie to SofSE, it's just the game fits my playstyle well - at least vs the AI. I'd get killed by a human so fast it wouldn't be funny. Bh
The game is up, so just join :P Bh
Ok, so shall we all get online? Bh
Other guys? Two of the guys bailed and then were eliminated, there's only three of us left, of which you and I are two. :) Bh
Tonight is better for me, I'm not sure if I'll be able to play on Wednesday or not. Bh
And yeah, they're incredibly irritating, especially because the UI gives you false alarms when they're jumping around your planets, but don't even pay them any mind.
Actually, there are no false alarms from the scout class. The game pretty much ignores them for warning purposes. It's only when the AI starts scouting with the cobalt class that you start getting all the false alarms. Bh
The constant AI scout ship patrols are mildly annoying, but that's about it, in general. Except for one case - playing unlocked FFA games. When you set up your border system with full defenses, including hangers, they'll chew up the scout ships easily. Which is fine, except that any time you destroy an enemy ship, it'll reset your diplomacy with that empire to 0. That makes it virtually impossible to try and make friends with any of the AI, because they are all scouting you, and you'
I think the main reason he was still alive was that he had a colony ship hiding somewhere, because he kept colonizing planets, and we'd find them pretty fast and take them out
The solution to that problem is to colonize the planets yourself. He can't colonize them if you already own them. You don't even have to bother upgrading them, since you are in "mop up" mode. Bh
In a 6 player FFA I was dominating every aspect of the game. Then about 4 hours in the tide changed. I was constantly being attacked on all fronts by large fleets of 4-5 cap ships and 25 or so siege craft. Using my full fleet cap I was able to fend them off using choke points but it was impossible to go on the offensive at all. If I left the defenses to defend, my planets would be bombed to rubble before any amount of defenses could kill the attackers. If I move in a fleet
