Give us the beta or I'm going to let the monkeys loose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wimPmoT7XoU I'll do it, too. Don't think I won't.
Know what I hate most about the voices? It's a subtle thing about the actual writing, not the voice acting. What I hate most is how so many ships have a response appropriate to a single soldier, like you'd find in Warcraft, not a ship with thousands of people aboard. They're always referring to themselves as "I", or "me". I know you're talking to an individual captain, but that's a flimsy excuse, because it's obvious that the lines weren't written with that in mind. No
That's the ONLY Vasari voice clip that makes you insane? Man, you're doing better than I am! ^_^ Exarion gave you the right folder, and the file you're looking for is called "EventPhase_PlayerFleetArrived.ogg". Maybe you can just delete it entirely, but I don't know, that might cause problems. Replace it with something, even a blank file, and you should be good to go. I love this game, but the voices... Advent is the only faction I can play without screaming.
Hehe...exactly...we learned our lesson the last time
^_^ Yeah, well... Not to beat a dead horse, but it's a bit too late for that. RELEASE date was Nov 18th. It's already been pushed back. Pushed back a LOT. Pushed back a mere two days before release, even though people had pre-ordered, and yet there wasn't much griping. Why? Because we all heard the beta was being released intead, and that was fine, because it
How hard would it be for the usually very communicative Stardock/Ironclad to give their loyal, preordering fans, who have been waiting since Nov 18th, just an estimate on when the beta will start? Would that kill someone? An estimate?
Nice! Only downside of enchantement pack is that its release date 1. January 2009 my vecation is almost over then.
Did you preorder? If you did, you can forget that release date and join the rest of us in wondering day by day if the beta will be out when we get up in the morning, only to find that it's not. ^_^
I agree, especially about the strikcraft chatter! I like this game, but I've always really, REALLY hated the voices. They came very close to keeping me from buying it in the first place. I play Advent, and I don't mind little girls, but every time I hear the voice of the guy who did Starscream, or the Ninja Turtles (no lie) I want to claw my own ears off. And who can forget a unit that responds to you with "What NOW, commeaander?" (TEC Carrier) "What now? You'r

You're going to be disappointed if it's not out by Christmas, and I honestly expected it to be released right after everyone came back from Thanksgiving holiday. Yeah, I know. I'm a sucker...
Nice, as always! So, at the risk of sounding pushy, is there like, any news about the intended, not-set-in-stone, possible, target release date for the beta of this thing, for those of us that pre-ordered way back in mid-November? You know, it's a beta, not a release. If it's not perfect, we promise not to complain!
Yes, it's in the interface settings, and if you have it off, holding the ALT key shows the grid, as well as health bars, planet names, etc.
I was seven years old when Star Wars first came out. It shaped my entire personality. I make my living making video games, today, because of the awe I felt watching Star Wars. I own it (the ORIGINAL, uncut, unedited, un-screwed-up version!), so between that and theaters... well, you can see a movie a lot of times in thirty years! ^_^ The new movies and the "extended universe" and kids too young to remember what it was like to see Star Wars when it was the only thing o
The problem with bad people is that they always assume everyone else is just as bad.

When I first read it, I laughed at the thought of keeping "change" (change as in making something different), because it sounds like such a McCain-esque sentiment, and only then did I realize that it was just a well-known phrase, and I laughed again because of the economic implications. I never said I was a single-player player... but I am. ^_^ Since your question sounded honest, I'll honor it with an answer. I know what I'm missing, because I've played plenty of multiplayer. Yes, it gets boring playing the AI. Yes, I wish I had a fantastic opponent that knew how to use innovative tactics and gave me a fun, unpredictable game. No, I don't get that when I play MP. Now, I'm not speaking of this game, in particular, becaus
I once played a game where the random, single-system map boiled down to one, single chokepoint. All fleet resources from all races were thrown into that one point, and nobody could make any headway at all. Hours and hours of fighting, all in that one gravity well, with no hope of actually being able to make it further with enough of a fleet to scratch the planets beyond. Then I built a couple of Deliverance Engines, and started aiming them at fringe worlds far past the

Master of Orion II = Very, very tasty apples. Total Annihilation = Very, very tasty oranges. They're both, possibly, the very best games in their respective genre, but they are NOT comparable. They're both in my top-ten best games of all time list, but they're NOT comparable. The first post was pathetic spam, but I agree on one point; I'd absolutely love for MOOII to get remade, with no changes except new graphics. MOOIII was utter trash compared to MOOII.
Think of it this way, someone higher up in the Chain of Command isn't going to issue orders to an entire ship, he's going to go to that ship's commander and give that individual the order, which the commander then relays that order to his crew.
Of course. And, as a superior officer, the first time one of those ship's commanders answers the phone with, "What now?" he's going to find his bleach-blond, fake-tanned butt replaced by someone else. Where is it said there are no men? More anti-Unity propaganda! There are males pictured in the losing screen, and one of the race portraits is a male, albeit a rather pretty one.
You do not HAVE to create fleets by unit type. Mixing unit types in fleets is OKAY. However, you should create fleets based on articulation points in your fighting force. That is to say, each set of units that you want to be able to move independently of eachother should be in a seperate fleet.
I agree. The most important reason to break up fleets, I think, is speed. If you group fast, light frigates with a slow, lumbering capital ship, you suddenly have a fleet o
I hate to throw a wrench in such a nice theory, but unless I specifically tell them what to attack, my fleets always spread their attacks out over multiple targets. Always.
