Mixed bag here... On the one hand, we obviously know what they intended to do with it. The thing of the matter, though, is that they did not actually do anything. They provided a space for the sharing of files which, in Sweden, is not against the law. Their intent has absolutely nothing to do with it. You can't punish someone for the thoughts they have when they haven't actually broken the law.&

I and a friend of mine used to... hell, who am I kidding, we still do, just yell the word Jew randomly. When one of us heard it, we were required to respond. A bird call of sorts, if you will. Some people would get upset. Funniest thing was, none of the people who got upset were Jewish. In fact, my Jewish friend was one of those who brain rattled one of the touchy-fish (Touchy-Fish: 1. one who is lacking in humour or a s

Because the story of Adam and Eve is a creation myth designed to explain billions of years of planet and species evolution designed by God/Yahweh/SpaghettiMonster in a way that tribal humans and "everybody's gods are okey-dokey" Romans living in the Mediterranean could understand. I swear, of all the ways that God could have used to create the universe, you'd think humans would be smart enough not to think it was the dumbest, simplest one... Oh, a

If I wanted to go buy hardcore porn when I was twelve, it was none of the government's business. My parents were the ones responsible for my limitations, not a store clerk. But, in the great nanny state of America... I wish I could remember enough about an old Bill Maher rant about afternoon talks shows and 'security moms' to find a YouTube clip. It

Everyone is an idiot. You, me. Only question is how much of one are you, which is to say 1. under what circumstances do you do stupid crap, and 2. how often are the planets aligned to allow these circumstances to exist. At the very least the people who admit that they are just as dumb as everyone else have the intellectual advantage of awareness. Which means I win.

True enough. Freedom from the constraints of life is exceptional. Things are a nuisance. The necessity of breathing, for example. I seek freedom fron constraint, but as all things contain within them a certain degree of necessary constraint it is foolish and, dare I say, dangerous and arrogant to wish for perfect freedom. However... The quest for that which cannot be obtained is no less noble for its inabil

I have spent what little bit of my life that has passed wishing constantly for something that I cannot rightly define. I became a teacher to pursue this ideal, I have taught others to wish for it and follow it like fireflies forever flying to the stars. In the end though, as I sit here and ponder as often I am wont to do, I realise that I do not know that of which I seek. Freedom. Sweet word. I feel it, sometimes. I feel it

[quote who="pigeonpigeon" reply="13" id="2023840"] Quoting Rhelamos, reply 12Additionally, a study was done in Japan recently I believe suggesting that ideal sleep time is between 6-7 hours, not 8. Moreover, getting less sleep up to a point, between 4-6, is healthier than getting too much sleep, 8 or more hours. I'm always skeptical about all these "ideal number of hours of sleep" studies. For one, they represent an average, which isn't necessarily helpful for the individual.

[quote who="AG3" reply="25" id="2020318"] Quoting tito_defekt, reply 8 Are you drinking any energy drinks? Rarely. Most of the time I drink alcohol. But doesn't that should put me into a deep sleep? Alcohol makes it easier to fall asleep, true, but it severely reduces the "quality" of your sleep and thus you get a lot less rested from it than you would if you had no alcohol in you. If you want to be more rested from sleep, cutting out the alcoh

[quote]So, basically, there is no one in this discussion who believes that digital rights should be defended? In fact, everyone here praises Stardock because they just let pirates steal from them if they want? I am confirmed in my initial belief that you are ALL pirates. I have not heard an opinion from anyone who I would assume has not and will not steal ideas. It is also interesting to have it confirmed that America's internet infrastructure is infinitely superior to the barbarian countries. This isn't about piracy being good or bad. It NEVER HAS BEEN. Piracy is bad, sure whatever. I agree. Does this mean that piracy will stop? No. The problem with people who refuse to acknowledge the obvious truth of a situation is that IT LEADS TO NOTHING. Pirates don't care about your nice little ideal society where they don't exist. They DO. End of discussion. Nothing, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you can do will stop that. So that's the

When I said "there is a line to be drawn" I merely referred to my own interest. Other people can do whatever they please with their lives, who am I to say otherwise? I just, personally, don't care to take any part in it. But for those that enjoy it, go for it.

Nicely done. On a side note, public speaking is VERY different from communicating on the social setting. I am an excellent public speaker, I took acting classes in college, and I have on several occasions brought people to tears and laughter with well-planned speeches. There's the thing, though: they're planned. In communication without guidelines I tend to stay quiet and observe, speaking only when I feel the need to say something. Problem with this is that most people communi

Since i'm sure most, if not all, of you have heard of "I Am Legend" from the movie, let me just say that you should really consider reading the book by Matheson. Matheson inspired my own writing style; IAL is a masterpiece, capturing perfectly the quiet desperation, the hopeless existence of the Last Man on Earth. There is nothing more disturbing than to be terrified by the sound of your own voice which, having no need to speak for years on end, resounds unrecognised through your empty

The internet is disturbing, yes, but outside of Legion Anonymous, it's really just a bunch of people trying to talk to each other. Some people, myself included, also find communication via the written word less stressful and awkward.
