Well, after looking at some stuff on Entrenchment and then realizing it was only $10 and downloadable, I decided to go ahead and grab it. Now, wormholes are no longer a problem, and in fact, I have one of the best Advent games I've ever had going (against the AI) and I haven't built much of a fleet yet, letting my 4 capitols and the star bases take care of everything. Quite impressive, but I need to get my fleets built since I almost lost one base to major assault from one of th

As the title says, is it possible to eliminate wormholes from the random maps? This game already has issues with trying to defend one's territory without adding points of entry within your own space. I dread every game that I encounter a wormhole early on because it means I am forced to leave defensive fleets around it, reducing my frontier defenses. I would simply enjoy the game more if I could eliminate the wormholes so that stars would be the only method of inter-system
I might be interested in something like this. Unfortunately, I, too, am another noob that hasen't tried to go online yet. Anyhow, my schedule is pretty flexible, so long as these games are scheduled on weeknights (M,T,W,T). Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are not really doable for me. Also, I can't guarantee my availability at 8 ET. I'm in central time, and I'm often out till close to 10 my time. That would be about 11 ET. Before that time, I can't say if I'll be available for ever
The way I think fleet upkeep should work is a percentage (as it does now) or a flat amount, whichever is lower. There comes a point when you have a very high income that you should be able to completely support your fleet. It shouldn't cost more to support a fleet the more money you make. It should cost up to a certain flat amount per second. If you make more than that, you keep the leftover instead of permanently losing a percentage of your income no matter how huge that income may be.If
Ehhh. Even a Huge random has only 10 planets per player... and some of those will be uncolonizable. But...let's look at that fleet cap again. For simplicity's sake, let's assume your making all Kodiaks. To fill out your fleet cap you need 200. At 500 credits each, that's 100,000 credits. At 25 credits a second, that's 4000 seconds - over an hour. Although a TEC player might have pervasive economy, which would help quite a bit.Granted - it's easier with Dark Armada. It takes 23 phase gates
Looks like everyhtihng is pretty much working now. I only see a couple of small glithes left, and they are quite minor. In the "My Replies" menu, all of the "Your Last Post" and "Last Post" are relfecting only the last post ("Your Last Post" is not working right). The second one is in the forum main area. All of the "Last Post Info" bits for each of the individule forums seem to be stuck at the time of the shutdown. None of the last posts have updated since the forum came
Little guys never stand long enough when their worlds are being pressed into submission.
However, how do you press their worlds into submission when you 2000 ship points to work with, and they also have 2000 points, as do their allies? Suddenly, your fighting forces that are 2 or 3 times your size, often over a wide area, while each of them consolidates their forces in a few narrow areas. And the problem with simply upping the fleet cap is that you have to up it
Any system can be abused, even one that uses weightings. The only way to avoid griefers is to establish a friends network manually and play within that. That also ensures that new players are likely to be excluded from the 'happy' gaming groups unless they know someone within them already (with 6 degrees of separation, who knows )Any time you allow people to rate others it is opened up to manipulation.. and rapidly devolves into a proxy 'friends' grouping anyway. Which is why you don't s
Okay, unless the small textbox issue has been solved already, then it appears to be an IE7 issue. I'm on my brother's computer right now, and he still has IE6 and the text box looks fine. Now to see if the edit function still eliminates the carriage returns. [EDIT] There should be a blank line between this and the last sentence. Two HTML Line breaks before this sentence. [EDIT 2] Woohoo. It seems to work fine on this browser. Maybe it go
HTML line breaks do still appear to work. One empty line between these? None between these?
Well, I'm going to confirm Uranium's problem with the edit system. I'm now using the latest version of Firefox, and it's really weird, since the changes I make don't seem to take effect unless I go to the thread in IE7. Then, the changes seem to work in both browsers. @ Uranium - I can see your last post edit before any replies have been made to it. [EDIT] Actually, I think the edit system is just running pretty slow. I just went back to look at my edit I made earlier and it's now show
I agree with what Squid recommended. I can't remember which game it was now, but I was playing an online game a couple years ago that had a ranking system like this, and it really worked quite well. Seems like it was one of the racing games like GT Legends. The problem was the ranking system was not part of the game, but rather a part of the online community that I was in. It effectively policed games set up from that community (which had many thousands of users, so the rankings did mean som
Well, the forum seems to be working for the most part for me now. My problem last night of carriage returns not being accepted seems to be fixed, I believe. However, as has already been mentioned, the text box for replying is very tiny under IE7. I have suspended using IE7 here until this is solved, since it's almost impossible to format a reply. Also, I just made a quoted reply (using IE7 at the time) to the thread "Fleet Cap & Tax Rate On Huge Maps Needs Fix" in the strategy forum
Sorry but it doesn't work this way. If you can rebuild a colossal fleet in a couple of minute just because of the freed upkeep, it means the game is horribly balanced(ie, the upkeep cost is way too high compared to the building cost). That is not an issue inherent to the system, but to its implementation. Most upkeep systems (Kohan, any turn based strategy game) work that way, and they don't have the problem you describe. As long as it still takes enough time to rebuild, taking advantage
same for IE7, just kinda annoying to use. without the spaces works to create a line break. Use it twice to create a blank line, if you didn't already know that. Still cannot edit posts.
Are you using the tag? see if that worked.
I'm using Internet Explorer 7, version 7.0.5730.11, and Firefox version 2.0.0.2 Problem seems to be with replies, as my top post was fine and I can edit it fine.
Well, the edit worked on my top level post. Glad to see I'm not the only one with the problems. Not glad for you, Marmoset, obviously. Just glad it's not something on my end causing it. [EDIT] now lets see if this edit works. Carriage Returns? Yay, they work!.
I'm having a couple of problems with the new forum software. It may be that the software is still being updated, since the forum just came back online a short bit ago. Anyhow, I made a post in the strategy forum and noticed that the text box on my IE 7 is now very tiny (as in no more than a couple dozen characters visible. I decided to just copy and paste the text from a notepad window, but then after I posted, all of the paragraph formatting was gone. Now, I cannot edit the post
The second issue is when two evenly matched(A and B) player fight. They both start with a 75% upkeep. A ends up getting the upper hand, and B fleet takesheavy damage. If the upkeep was ship based instead of income based, it would allow B to rebuild (because his upkeep would have decreased a lot). However, under the current system, B still pays 75% of his income for a fleet he doesn't have anymore, and gets basically zero chance of coming back. A can take many of his planets while he
Man Monk, your not into MS Flight SImulator, are you? People over there have been dealing with these exact issues for years now. Several of the groups I've been in could definately have used someone like you. Great job on these guides and your help here. I just got my system set up, but have not tried it yet to make sure it works. Hope I don't have to bother you with any problems. I am an IT student afterall, I should be able to get it figured out myself.
Well, I'd like to try the online games, but I know I'll be one of those that gets eliminated very early on. So far, all I've been playing is against the AI, and from reading a few other threads here, I can tell that the AI has trained some bad habits into me. The problem I have with online is exactly what you mention. Too many people online act like their 8 year olds. They rub it in constantly if they win, and they whine non-stop if they loose, and half of them leave the game if it s
I would like to state that Sins is great; I hate to come on here and make it sound like the game is "broken" or unplayable. The flaws that I am pointing to are the few exceptions to an otherwise ingenius design.
I'd like to second this. So far, what I've played of Sins has been incredible. Definately the best RTS I've ever played, and one of the best 4X strats I've played. It's just that I like to play on massive scales, and it seems that there are some holes in
At the very least, the simplest "band-aid" quick fix I can think of at the moment is to include an option at game start that modifies the supply cap to account for map size. So for example, the "small" setting could be the current supply cap that scales from 100 to 2000 with ~200 increments. The "medium" setting could scale from 100 to, say, 5000 with increments of 500. The "large" setting could go from 100 to 10,000, and the "huge" setting could go from 100 to 20,000 before the
Almost any. It's my callsign in flight simulators. In reality, I can't afford the plane. I've got my sport license, which allows me to fly a relatively new class of light weight planes called Light Sport Aircraft, or LSAs. Unfortunately, there are no LSAs available around here now. When I got my license, there was an LSA available for rent at a local airport. It was an friend's plane that he would rent to others when he didn't need it. Unfortuately, he moved a few months ago and now I'm w
