Not a bitch but if a developer checks out this thread, maybe I can put a bug in their head: when the game ends, I'm rather suddenly and unceremoniously dumped out, except for one final spash screen saying I won. It would be nice if I could relish my victory a little longer, letting me look around the map after the game is over--with the game frozen, without actually returning to active play. Dawn of War does this and it's nice. It would essentially be barely any extra coding: you i
Your baitcanning and flipping and whatever reminds me of good old ganking in the pvp servers in WoW. Never did understand it. I mean if a level 40 character wants to hang out in a level 20 zone, okay, whatever floats your boat. But it seemed like a pointless waste of time to me. At least in WoW you could definitely say the F-word. Calling a girl fat would have almost definately been overlooked unless you are a stalker. Which makes me wonder how far you took it.
I was contemplating Spore, but now I saw let the Chinese have it!
"Post-mortem" doesn't seem like quite the right word. Most "post-mortems" I've read are some guy who made a mediocre game bellyaching about software piracy.
I remember Wampus hunt.
Okay it reads nice, and is engaging. It is well-written and moves along nicely. For posting on the internet, it improves readability if you break it up in to sections a few paragraphs long and use subheadings. Technically, it is more of a revenge tale than a hero's journey. You lost me, though, at the climax, because Charles and Christopher clearly had a history, that for the most part was left out. The motive for battle is a make or break part of the story, but we really don't have
You gotta suffer for art. Busy now but I'll read sometime in the next couple of days and comment. I like the first paragraph.
An option for generating smaller maps (3-6 planets/asteroids) so the big cool Babylon 5 space battles can be had within an hour instead of three. That means more colonizable structures like research stations (in addition to the metal and crystal mines that already exist) to get things moving along. Also colonizable artifacts-- that you don't have to spend money and metal to find, this would add an interesting exploratory dimension, and perhaps even create a race for that "key" artifact. This
Say what? It's about as smooth an updating process as they come. Having to install the patch outside the game is a non-issue.
While the content of the post might have merit, the style suks, and style matters. For those who truly do find this concerning, consider the option to play on [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/307997"]Very Small Maps[/link]. Can't waste too much time building trade routes that way!
K I gave the map generator a try... but even when I just made it with a sun, and no planet groups, and two players, it was still too big. I want some *VERY* small maps. :) Seriously, the map generator seems designed for making larger maps rather than smaller ones.
The map generator idea is cool, I should give it a go, but also random maps are fun and random small maps take more than an hour for me, upwards of two. If with the generator you can add structures and start out with colonized planets other than your home world then I shouldn't have much to complain about. I was also thinking maybe something where we could capture research stations like we colonize empty metal or crystal mines, and maybe capture artifacts floating in space too. This is just a
I've been playing from near the time Sins was released, and I think it is great, and getting better with every patch. There is basically one single reason, however, that I play the game once or twice per week, rather than every day. That is: most evenings I don't have time for a 3 hour game. Even two hours cuts in to the number of games that I play. Don't get me wrong, I love the medium maps and the slow pace of the game, but practicalities are practicalities. <
leaving ME AGAIN dealing with 3 players alone.
Surprise, surprise. Maybe it wasn't an "emo quit." Having troubles finding (or staying in) a clan?
60% for Sins is certifiably insane and loses all credibility. I might not fault a critic who goes into the 70's because of the lack of polish in graphics and sound, and no single player campaign, and IF they fail to notice the advances that have been made in RTS gameplay, and IF they don't like RTSs so they don't notice how fun it is. But most reviews seem to be above 80%, which seems right. There will always be the odd outliers.
90 minutes of playtime? LOL... that's just enough time to get your fleet together on a medium map.
For future reference, generally if you want to build or research something, but can't, what you need to have or do first is usually indicated in the description when you click the button, or mouse over it.
Over the years of seeing a lot of, let's say, unpopular patches, or numerous complaints about a particular change in an otherwise okay patch... what I've learned is that when it comes to changes, a developer ought to be conservative. Still, the user base does often make valid points about things that should to be different, and shouldn't be disregarded. So, if the developers make changes that are midway between what the game currently is, and what people are asking for, and err on the side of
^^nice post but RTS's usually DO come with a single-player campaign. Well okay, sometimes now they are coming with those stupid RTS/turn-based hybrids to increase "replayability" but that usually I don't play even one time. Hopefully the expanded RTS scale seen in Sins with get rid of them forever. Anyway, the single player campaign helps to develop the background story and introduce us to the gameplay, and gives us a little feel for the Sins universe. I would rather have it to, but at the s

I haven't tried out the new patch yet. I will when I get some time. I must say though I've been convinced by the arguments of the competitive gamers here, though am a casual player myself. There was a big strategic element in getting your resource balance right which sounds like has been taken away. Strategy good... better for pwning Noobz!!1!

Haven't read the above responses so sorry if I'm repeating, but... dude, didn't you read any of the online game reviews? Long slow games, graphics that a wide variety of computers are able to run, and no single player campaign have been widely reported in probably every single review. I would rather have a single player campaign but knew full well when I put down the cash I wouldn't be getting one. Tutorials could be better but I learned just fine playing the first few games against
/drool ...I mean, Sins is great and all, but for some fast Planet side action, I'll be away for a bit when SC2 comes out.
