If the mod folder location isn't hardcoded....I'm going to find it and change it. I'm writing a search algorithm now. I just automatically assumed that path would be hardcoded.

Now that I don't have to have 1.07 GB's of data taking up space anymore, I will seriously give this a try and give some feedback later tonight. I've got a news report to watch first in about half an hour and then I'll give this mod a go. :)
Terminaltwelve I would like to mention, however, that modifying the stored location of your mods and save files in this manner is a) not a matter of hex or binary, it's simply registry modifications, and b) is not illegal or unethical, provided you don't distribute the method. . . .
Wait, I understand that. :) I'm talking about altering the actual executable Sins.exe file to manually change the location of the mods folder. That's a whole different beast and that pro
Your router has its own hardware firewall. You can use the_Monk's advice or you can be lazy and just put your computer's network address into DMZ mode via your router's control tools and tell your software firewall that the Sins.exe program is safe (not sinslauncher.exe -- I think that's its name). That will take care of port forwarding for you, but be sure to turn off DMZ when you're done playing online. This is less safe than what is advised in the technical FAQ's, but if you have a fully-upda
Hey, I've got to make one correction here to be fair. I can't edit my post, but I do want to say that Dell's online support chat is really helpful. I can't badmouth them. My $3000 worth of performance laptop several years ago was a disappointment back then, yes, and led to a bunch of complaining, but $3000 is a lot different from $40. Having missing documentation in a game is a lot different from cheapo hardware in a high end system. It was really annoying to be referred to as a number.
Eliah1, remember, this is Stardock...not EA, not Microsoft, not Epic, not Midway, not someone else. Contact with them and interact with them. I'm sure something can be worked out. You're not just another number here like you are other places.
Terminaltwelve Technically, this is not correct. As discussed, there are means to do this built into windows. They're not easy to find nor perform, and can be dangerous, but they are there.

bonscott Moving My Documents is VERY easy. Simply right-click the My Documents icon on your desktop and change to another drive letter.
You two either missed the fact that I said I store games on an external drive or I didn't specify that I run a la

In general though, it's pretty common these days for games to not be save game compatible across different versions. It's unfortunate, but such is life.
I'm not sure about that, it's been my experience that very few games make their save games incompatible.
It completely depends on the underlying structure of a game and what all data gets inherited or absolutely specified. I don't know how Sins works, but if you have a save game where it absolutely specifies that
Actually, the harder the AI the easier an unlocked teams game is for me. When we're all on a level playing field that AI tends to have someone other than me to shoot at for a while. However, every game I played under 1.02 with unlocked teams did boil down to the AI creating alliances with itself and ganging up on me late in the game. Even if I had AI allies they still allied with my enemy and wouldn't shoot at them. They'd become lame ducks while I'd have to go around mopping everyone else up. A
I only play online Fridays and Saturdays because of the time commitment required to get through a solid game of Sins. Other days of the week I play single player since the +/- speed controls help the game fit into my busy schedule better. My online experiences have been a bit of a let down when I play against people I don't know. I would be open to helping newbies learn the game though. I've thought about setting up something like that one of these days.
bonscott So I implore, no...beg, Ironclad/Stardock to change this in a future patch. Please put these disk space eating things where they belong (My Documents | My Games) and that is not in the user profile.
I agree with everything you said except for the part about putting the files in the My Documents/Games folder. For people like myself that doesn't fix the problem because My Documents/Games cannot be moved off the C Windows drive. I've got about 10 GB's

Depending on your video card, most modern drivers automatically differentiate between different video sources. However, I don't know if that applies to HDMI though. At least you got it working. :)
Why can't you just ignore the pirate base even existing? If they're not raiding, then that seems just fine. Leave the pirate base there for an experience bump and heavily fortified place for a player to try to take over. There's very few maps where the pirate base is unavoidable. In cases where you battle the AI, the pirate base is like a virtual wall.
Advent are way too good for TEC in my experience. That colonizer ship is insane it pays for itself if you colonize 3 or 4 planets with it.Then on top of that it has the shield regenerator that makes it tough to kill early on with a small fleet. Then there ships are so cheap off hte start and way too good for the money the TEC ships are barely better and cost too much more.
You think that the Advent are overpowered. Someone posted yesterday that the Advent are too weak for "com
Oh wow, this is a very old trick and it's been around forever. I remember this happening back in the days of the original Command and Conquer games. How to avoid a loss? Just unplug your net connection. These days it's even easier because it can literally be a button or switch away that disables a wireless connection. There isn't really any solution to this other than to do a time-based judgment. Depending on the size of the map, Ironclad should use their data and determine the average length of
Freespace 2....I still have that game and it's CD's. I also have the original Freespace game and its CD's. I think I might just go install and play that again later this week. :) Would it be neat to see a Freespace mod? Yes. However, someone else will have to do it. I have my own plans for a mod I'm quietly starting to develop alone.
This is bullshit.
Drat. I would really prefer for the group to wait for 100% of the ships to be ready. When I want a precision launch and arrival, having any stragglers at all diminishes the impact of that arrival.
That would be nice, yes, but as long as the ships actually jump in a timely fashion then I have no complaints. Right now I normally notice capital ships pushing each other out of the way. A couple of times it's become an almost endless loop preventing a phase jump. 90% should be a qu
