Will a AGEIA PhysX card benefit gameplay with this configuration?
No. Most games already use their own proprietary physics routines including many of the games that were pushing PhysX. The whole physics processing unit was just another money grab using an overpriced piece of hardware that doesn't deliver much. It was quickly rendered useless by multi-core CPU's.
The pirate raids simply spawn out of thin air based on bounty amounts and how built up the players are. They're not a player so much as a game mechanic, so the 'cheat' description doesn't really apply.
Is there any chance of having a pirate raid from a pirate base under attack focus on the attackers instead of running around the galaxy to go hit someone's planets? Or a raid from that base just not spawning at all when the pirate base is below a certain percentage of its hit po

I found them yesterday in a pirate base. :) It was the second of 3 total pirate bases I wiped out. I saw a 40% cost reduction show up under the space ponies. However, it seemed to be temporary.

Doeden, here's what you did wrong: 1) You had no support/healing/repairing ships supporting your fleet. Next time get a Dunov or some robotiks cruisers. 2) You had 2 Akkan capital ships (these things fall apart easily). You have to park them in the middle of a fight for all their weapons banks to fire, and that leaves you open to multiple illuminator hits since they shoot out their sides as well as fronts. 3) You were fighting Advent, which normally puts some sort of d

TEC: I normally start with a Kol or Dunov. I find that paring these two capital ships together works wonders because the Kol is so tough and the Dunov is pretty quick. A Kol can sit there and soak up damage while a Dunov recharges its shields or runs around trying to avoid enemy fire. I will also use the Sova from time to time mainly for the embargo ability, but that's normally after I have at least 1 Kol and 1 Dunov...normally. A pair of Sova's later in the game excel at harassing enemy assets.

I mainly play against the AI and sometimes with friends. However, the matches get to be too long commonly so that's why I only ever played online twice. People always end up leaving or doing something stupid. I've read enough horror stories about people getting ganged up on online by people and their buddies or clan mates so I'm completely avoiding it unless I can find some friends now.
the official press releases by Kaos Studios says that it's problems between the unreal 3 engine and the PS3, which has happened before but i wouldnt be surprised if THQ was bleeding money, some of their games just havent been up to other publisher's standards
There are so many problems with the Unreal Engine 3 that the developer of it is getting sued. Publicly it gets a lot of praise and support, but behind the scenes a lot of studios are struggling with it because it's so bug
I am done with this game ... I am going back to playing medieval Total war 2 and Civ 4. Its a good RTS but single player has a lot of flaws. No matter how much i give the AI money, metal or crystal. He will not agree to siege fire.
You have to run at least 2 (normally 3) missions in order to get a cease fire, and you have to make sure you don't destroy any of the AI's ships. In the first image I'd expect the trade route to make a crescent shape which includes all available trade ports on that chain. I don't see why an extra jump should be an issue. I do agree that choosing the longest trade route is bugged. I played Dopplegangers earlier today and instead of running a trade route from my home planet, to its star, to the star of a conquered system, and to the star of a conquered enemy planet, it simply ran the trade route from a volcanic planet sitting next
one problem i keep having in the game is my huge armada's will not attack a player i was allied with before.
I encountered something like this last night. I was playing Tec and I allied myself with a Tec normal AI. The other teams were 2 Advents, 2 Vasari, and 2 Random (Vasari and Advent it turned out to be). My AI ally failed to attack the dark blue Advent attacking his planets. When I attempted to tell the AI to defend its own planet and attack the enemy's ships it told me t

I had this same problem. It turned out to be some sort of flaw in the 16x.xx drivers (happened on 167, 168, and 169). I switched to 171.16 and the problem has gone away in all games. Performance also improved. My drivers come from [link="http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/"]http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/[/link]. I'm pretty sure the drivers posted there are also compatible with desktop cards as well as notebook cards. They're real Nvidia drivers, but the inf files have been hacked so that the

I do use fleets, yes. I use them just to get the flagship title next to the lead capital ship's name. :p On a more serious note, I do it mainly to specify how close ships should be to each other and to control if they jump together or not. This helps keep those abilities many ships have working on the maximum number of ships at the same time. I also like it for if I happen to send in reinforcements and aren't keeping track of things. Those reinforcements automatically join the fleet th

I remember playing Sim City 4 and having all this great content I was able to add on. However, it was in my My Documents folder because that's where the game wanted it. Needless to say, that 2.8 GB's of data had to be wiped out immediately after I was finished enjoying it. In the case of UT3, I don't develop maps for it anymore or download them either because it wants that content in the My Documents folder too instead of the install directory (I am the person behind DM-Phobetor). When good maps

This is a huge problem for me and I'm hoping this gets addressed soon. Currently Sins is set up so that mods are installed on the same drive as your OS every single time regardless of if the game is installed on another drive. In my particular configuration I have the following setup: C drive (primary Windows drive; internal 72k RPM 60 GB mobile Hitachi laptop hard drive) E drive (external IEEE 1394 72K RPM 500 GB Western Digital inside portable enclosure) Because of limited spa

While in theory this idea sounds good, I don't think it would really work out when it comes to video game development. Sure, when it comes to EA, Take 2, or Midway these sorts of idea voting sites can give those big companies a clue as to what direction to go in, but smaller companies like Ironclad generally have a whole laundry list of game ideas, nice-to-haves, desired enhancements, potential expansions, and all that sort of stuff just sitting around. They normally make games they want to enjo

Wow...and here I thought Sins had the most intuitive camera interface I've ever seen in an RTS. It doesn't get claustrophobicly close like in Warcraft or Warhammer. The camera and I really seem to get along in Sins. Sure, it sometimes follows some random tiny ship that I can't see from a distance, but it's very easy to snap it out of doing that. Personally, I think the camera is one of the strongest aspects of Sins.
Used console games get better positioning than new PC games.Because used console games are what keep them in business. New games have slim margins on them, while used games are generally marked up 300-800% over what they paid for the tradeins. Since they no longer accept PC game tradeins (piracy being their chief excuse, IIRC), they only carry enough of them to keep PC gamers coming in the store; any more than that is waste to them. If they thought they could get away with losing the cust

I see most of the complaints are about EBgames and Gamestop (same company). I've already emailed several major PC games developers and publishers to complain about an EBgames and Gamestop policy in which they should be sued for. I don't want to tell what it is publicly. Those stores are abysmal though. Trying to find out information about a PC game these days is like talking to a wall. Most of the EBGames/Gametop stores I've visited devote all their space to console games and PC games are sittin
I find it hilarious. Why don't they have a huge popup saying you are using a pirated copy instead of outright shutting of the game???
Exactly! And why aren't they pursing legal action against people complaining when they obviously have a pirated copy because the game hasn't been released yet? It would work in their favor because people would either 1) shut up or 2) go buy the game so they don't get caught. Piracy is a fact of life. DRM and the way ILE responded did serious damage.

I'm going to have to agree and echo 1Spartan's opinions. I'd get more involved in this thread and elsewhere on the forums, but I've been under the weather for the past couple of days. However, I want to bring to the discussion one major aspect that no one in the industry is talking about. This is something that everyone needs to be talking about though because it's getting out of control. That happens to be the cost of living. Yes, the cost of living. These are all the income, property,
