A friend and I are trying to play Sins (Diplo) over LAN with fresh installs of the game on laptops, both running Win 7. Either of us can create a game but when the other tries to join the game we get a message saying that our galaxy scenario files are different. The only fix I could think of was to replace the GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef files of one computer with that of the other. That didn't work. The command I've been trying is "ConvertData_Entrenchment entity AbilityBlackOut.entity AbilityBlackOut.entity" When I added the "_text" to the end and it didn't change anything. I'll keep trying things...
I'll have to try that... I saw it done that way somewhere else but thought that was just to tell them apart... I'll have to try it when I get home from class.
I realize it sounds strange putting it that way but there are only a few files I'll want to edit, no more than 30 files. So I won't be doing all of them anyway. The problem is that I can make text versions into binary but I want to take the binary into text. When I try it that way it only makes a new binary copy.
I have tried to find an answer for this on the forums over the last couple of days and failed... How do I change the entity files to text without using a utility such as the one harpo has so graciously provided? I have decided that I would much rather be able to do it myself rather than having to wait for some else. If I change the number of stages in planet exploration, say from 2 to 4, does that increase the chances to find artifacts and natural resources? Or are those sorts of things encoded elsewhere?

I have a friend that has this annoying tendency to have only a capital ship and like 5 light frigates running around to protect like 15 planets because he has a hard time wrapping his head around the idea that a ships firpower cna be upgraded after it's been built. You said a line of planets from the star to my homeworld and the first thing that came to mind was how perfectly I could annoy my friends with that kind of map. Astax is right, and I would bother repeating what he said so well already, it's anything but a speed map. I could spend 5 or 6 hours on a map like that easy.

I favor the advent carriers. Once they max out you get upto 6 squadrons of bombers with 17 bombers (using special abilities). It don't get much better than that when you use it with Gaurdians and Illuminators...
