Phasing is extremely effective. Take for example the following: Ship A with 1000 shields and 1000 hit points Hull and shield regen of +2.0HP/sec Shield Migration of 15% to 50% when below 200HP Armor of 2 Neglecting all armor, hull regeneration, shield mitigation, and shield regen. Normal attack will have to do a minimum of 2k of dmg to take out this ship A. Phase missile attack with 25% phasing will still need to deal 2k of dmg to out ship A. With only

Could it be possible the game was trying to reduce load on your systems and thus preventing lag from large scale fights? It would make sense to only show the few hundred ships and special abilities effects minus the few thousand weapon fire effects. Just my $0.02
Vasari is a bit different in the fact, expanding is kinda of necessary for income. It may sound a bit illogical, but early game econ building really gets vasari fast. As of now, with each game I play, I've come to like trade ports more and more. As to your selection of ships, a fairly experienced exvacator coupled with a few skirmishers to absorb damage with the assaliants really knocks out most fleets you will encounter early game and even mid game until you can tech up to the cruiser
