Looks like the Google Sketchup Pro v6 can export to XSI, and 3DS (among others). But it is also $495 I guess you could DL the 8hr free trial version (that only counts the time you are running the program) and use it just to convert to XSI or whatever?

Thanks for the replies Aractain - yes actually; but I'm not talking about making brand new ships..there must be some models around that could replace the TEC ones... But even finding some already made models, I guess you would still need to match weapons/weapons mounts..and other effects...not to mention textures, which seems to be missing on most 3d models I do find
Maybe its just a personal thing..I love this game, I especially love all the hard work people are putting into some most excellent mods!! I pretty much just play single player and I love really large maps and long games..that sometimes take a few days to finish lol All the races are really cool with great and varying abilities..however I simply don't like the TEC ships..I can kinda see where they were coming from making them the way they are (I don't think they 'skimmped out' at all
This is a great map to play on, especialy with Distant Stars or the Mars mod. Only thing I have noticed on this one is I seemed to have started in a system that eventualy is cut off from all the others. Try as I might, I can't find a way out lol. I've surrendered and scouted around a few times. Love the feel of the map tho.. awesome work :D
Really enjoying this mod so far..agree that fighters/bombers should be toned down a bit tho..not sure how much AI is dev issue or mod issue, but would be nice to see more aggressive AI (probably more a game issue unfortunatly). Crashes.. I'm currently playing a rather large map (230 planets and 25 odd stars, the 2nd map that Fandango has out). Elegent Hull Design has 10 training slots...but the next level Supreme Architecture only requires level 2 (not sure if intentional or not)

I'm a major noob at this, but I'm dedicating myself to learning how to do 3d meshes/textures lol I was also looking everywhere for a .mesh -> anything converter and the only thing I could find is maybe 3ds max can read .mesh files, and use that to convert to something else. But I can't afford to get 3ds max atm lol. I just downloaded the free version of XSI 6 mod tool...I've got paint shop and the nvidia addons as well. Now I need a good wiki or tutorial!!
I am interested in how you added the 4th race, as opposed to just replaceing one of the existing ones... Is there a limit to how many races can be added? Would be very nice to eventualy add 10 different races so you are always comeing up against different ships/techs :D
Seriously..and i think your way off on it messing up online play, there can't anything wrong with having more races/ships to pick from I hope tho that each mod adding race/ships/tech can be installed into the game, not just as a 'mod'...that way you can play said race with game as is OR with your favorite mod So instead of just having the 3 races to pick..you could have.. however many people decide to make :p All sounds good to me!!

Fixed this by un-installing mod in game mod options, then reslecting to use mod..that seemed to fix the issues
My problem is after playing a game with a mod, and saving the game.. when I reload the saved game it seems to start okay..but I cannot zoom all the way into the planet to show assests (ships ect.), and the ships themselves do not seem to show up at all (when I double click) will start new games and try some different stuff (saveing, reloading with and without useing mod..trying different mods) but wondering if anyone else has seen problems like this..very dissapointing, I had a
