Is there any indication as to the anticipated minimum system requirements to run the game? It sounds really interesting and I would love to buy it but I need to know if it will run on my old pc at home. Is being able to run SoaSE good enough for the game?
I wouldn't say these are flaws it just sounds like you might not be building up your planetary defenses enough. I usually put at least one hanger defense around all planets, 2 - 3 at choke points. That way no matter where the enemy is in the gravity well my defenses will respond and at least inflict some damage on him before he is able to jump to the next planet. Also as others have stated you need to build up your infrastructure and emergency facilities otherwise your planet is a sitting duc
I hate to do this on this forum and I will completely understand if the moderator(s) delete this response but I'm going to say this anyway. If you are really looking for a game that is heavy into diplomacy (and is fairly balanced at doing that) check out Europa Universalis III. It is set between the late 15th century up thru the early 19th century and is big on the strategy from diplomacy to economics to military. Just a thought if you are really looking for a diplomacy oriented game.
Your other option is to not bother wasting money to stop the pirate raid. Simply let the pirates come to you and be sure you have enough defenses to fend them off. If you leave a capital ship in the area you can use the encounters to level up. Sometimes you can't help but be in the path of the pirate fleet, especially on random maps, just try to use it to your advantage. You could also build up your fleets and head out to take out the Pirates home base, it doesn't do you much good to
Don't feel stupid, I was just playing this map last night and I simply assumed that I started with a capital planet. I was barely able to keep up with the pirate raids, as soon I defeated one and rebuilt my fleet another one was on it's way. I never had any money to do anything else. Now I can actually attempt this map again and see what happens.
