companies like SD/IC have taken the first step, but they need to take more. Namely, bring back renting... OBVIOUSLY not renting games doesn't stop piracy. what it does accomplish wholly, as apparent from numerous posts here, is that it allows people to use the excuse that they need to test drive the game before buying. Solution: let them. I don't like the idea that you give a 15 day full version free trial period, because many people can finish a lot of games in that time. But you COULD give a c

I've not touched consoles in a LONG time, but don't they have keyboard/mouse interface capability and such, and are pretty powerful now? so why lol at the idea of a port to them? Don't plan on getting consoles anytime soon my self, but I'm just curious why its so funny?

Subscriptions aren't the way to go for non-MMO games, IMO. Like I said previosly, for games like this, if you are actually adding enough 'content' to justify subscription, then you are just beating the game to death (making it worse after a certain point in time... eg you wouldn't really implement subscriptions for a six month period would you? ). And if its not content, then you have to offer things like persistent universe--- well for that you might as well turn it into a MMO which is not what

Annatar, you seem to get half of my point. The other half is I'm trying to convince people that semantics DO matter in order to raise awareness and convince the common folk that its wrong. Istead of reiterate again and again, I will simply ask that you research the history of how courts treated emotional/psychological harassment vs. physical, and the changes that came about in looking at the emo/psy crimes as a result of courts giving them a seperate sub-catagory. Use that as an analogy for vir

This was exactly my point. You can't treat software the same way. I DIDN'T say it doesn't harm anyone, read my post completely please. I said it's NOT the same as stealing. It's still wrong, and we need to redefine this new kind of 'wrong', somehow(sadly I have no ideas as to how...) . calling it flatout stealing just makes people ignore the other valid arguments behind anti-piracy(the most substantial of which is that you can't use the 'magic copy machine' on the devs :P ) .

Let me star off by saying I am NOT rationalizing piracy (though probably many will still think so)
Why is software looked at so differently? It's a product like anything else and pirating it is no different than walking into a store and stealing the game off the shelf. If you can't afford a game, then you shouldn't be playing it. Bottom line. No amount of rationalization is good enough to justify pirating a game. Why do people think it's some inherent human right to play a game if t

Leaving your inner chokepoints fortified has several advantages:If your opponent turns the tide somehow, without fortified inner worlds its likely you won't be able to flip the momentum again. Also if you turn these planets into shipyards or research lab areas, the defenses will stave off production or research crippling raids your opponent could mobilize (not likely on normal AI), etc... basically, unless your immediate survival depends on getting more cash, leave the defenses be :D About l

the way i've always thought about it is that AoE is SUPPOSED to scale with opponents in an area. If this looks like it might happen, a decent player would simply micro his strikecraft, diversify his fleet, disable the ships able to do this, etc. etc. or he probably deserves to lose for not being responsive to the tactical/strategic situation at hand. Similarly, same thing with anything else.. e.g. if you have a few guardians in the middle of a ~500+ supply strong fleet, your opponent better

Heh, many people around here want *more* victory conditions FYI so I wouldn't say an allied victory is not correct :D. But yeah thats working as intending, you've already won so there is no longer a victory to be had, and diplomacy won't work in any case if there is just one other player left aside from you. I've got a question relating to this: I haven't checked if you can still get achievements after the victory screen but I doubt it. Anyone checked this/know about it?

Personally, i'm fine with the current lifecycle games go through. While there are many games I wish got a lot more support than they did, in general, with games like this(IMO anyway) there comes a point where adding more 'features' and 'content' is just going to make the game worse. So what i would like more than paid content is for developers to find this optimum(game stable enough, satisfies players, costs are reasonable) and leave the game off there, to engrave their names in infamy :D. I

I've won many 5-star huge randoms, with situations ranging from just 1 unfair AI to a mix of 5 unfair and hard ai. Using tactical structures is key. You can hold grav wells for a long time if you have a good tactical config. Also, vasari and advent are easier to play on larger maps, due to advents low supply costs and vasari fleet mobility. with vasari, you want a phase stab in every grav well almost, and with advent, the hanger upgrades make those really potent defenses. But i ag
so if this mod slips under the radar, and no one financially gains or loses . . . . . . . . what? Can the mod still be circulated amongst people? Are MS and or Bungie hunt people down and force them to delete it? Just POed. I am a noob modder.
Well, thats what i'm trying to say, it's a bit more complicated than that. There isn't a clearcut stance in US courts YET on many aspects of the whole copyright issue as it pertains to electronic media and the internet with such thi

basically against heavy cruisers, you need something that can match the DPS AND survivability. This is done by either having similar number of heavy cruisers + some support you self, or some good micromanagement of different combos. For example, if you are advent as well, get a revelation + progenitor + dominas + disciples for antimatter+ any damage (if you are confident you can micro good enough, best to use carrier w/ bombers). Of course, have revelation take damage, micro the progen's shield

really want to see the race vasari are on the run from, heh. But 3 races is plenty to keep me busy for a long while. + adding more races is probably a challenging balance problem :( so the mods with extra races will probably face serious balance issues.
I LOVE all the races' voices. The vasari is my favorite, reptilian and just the right amount of energy. The Advent is just plain comic relief, and the TEC voices are fitting and 'cool'.Maybe if I read this post while looking at it upside down, it'll make more sense to me.Surfer-boy cruiser captains and B-movie ninja scout ship pilots are "cool", while the absolutely serious (but very young, in some cases) Advent girls are "comic relief"?I suppose if I were 13, and thought ninjas were teh

Unless you have deliverance cannons (which you don't if you are TEC heh), the only way to colonize a planet in a new system is to camp it out with caps and wait for culture to recede. What can really help here is if you send strike forces(best if carriers, but situation may dictate otherwise) to neighboring grav wells and take out broadcast centers.first thing to do is put up max broadcast centers as soon as you get the planet. a bit later you can maybe scuttle and make room for shipyards/trade

Well, to expand on this bug, a very much related problem exists that is a major annoyance. As every vasari player no doubt knows, RA can take you over the unit cap(without using the exploit) eg, you have 7 supply and ra auto summons a transporter, leaving you with -1 supply. Now, suppose you have 200+ supply of ships in queue. The queue is locked till you scuttle ships or un-queue some ships to take the fleet pop to positive again, which is EXTREMELY annoying. Note: i know this isn't much c

Unfortunately, it's a bit more complicated. [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright"]WWW Link[/link] But, like may have said, mods and stuff usually slip under the radar, and/or are forgiven by companies if no profits were gained and no loss was perceived by the company

does atl+f4 even work in this game though? i tried it once or twice, and it didn't. Maybe it's because of my wireless keyboard, will check again. (Please don't try it except for testing, I'm not trolling, heh) To the point: I agree, really need a better way to 'trade'. It would be best if we could type our own values. And I don't see an exploit as a previous post suggests. The exploit part they solved in a previous patch right? ( defeated players transferring creds/resources) . If a tw

Speaking from my experience in single player, against multiple Hard/Unfair AI unlocked teams: Fortifying is a viable strategy. Tactical structures do just what they are supposed to and do it right. They fortify your gravity wells. You can win with a half to third-as-strong fleet against an attacker if you have a properly fortified planet( This means a mixture of hangers, repair bays, aux. structures(nanites, antimatter, or planetary shields) and turrets ). And it works well on very large
