Well, not having a campaign seriously kills a lot about sins. I'll give the guy that much. That's about as far as I go though. Single player has always been dull to me because of how predictable the AI is. Sounds like this expansion will have some pretty significant changes. Still watching for the game change logs.

Darvin pretty much hit it on the head. Knowing the counters thoroughly and implmenting them properly is how you win this game, but where this logic loses base is when you consider that some counters either don't work or are incredibalby strong.
your safest bet is the solid LRF/Flak combination.
hence this

I'll give the unit guide one last fix before diplomacy comes out. Been meaning to update that for a while. It's in the sticky section of the strategy forum.

Don't shoot it down until we see it. I'm not so much paying attention to the add-ons. Pay attention to the balance fixes. That''s the more important thing right now.
They have little combat value unless you're scout rushing (yet another awesome tactic)
Woot Btw. I watched the replay. In theory the way you played was awesome, but if I had seen you doing that, I would've hit you hard and fast, cause all of your money would have been invested in the planets waiting to pay itself off. Still, hat's off! Oh, and I've been tinkering with the Vasari. There IS some logic to the Desolator rush. The Marauder is overall

If I could throw my hat into the ring one more time, maybe this could be a comprimise for the moment. I've read down the list of what you guys have proposed, and I think there may be a simpler answer. Giving this cap a radical overhaul probably isn't going to happen, just like every other cap out there. I'm looking purely at the programming vs. effort logic of changing this game. The two simple fixes are, imo, to: 1. Fix the bug on disruptive strikes. This is a n

Defending your planets with structures isn't a good investment. It's better to get ships that can move. They're the best "defense" possible. You have to understand, the quickest payoff for planets is to colonize them, get infrastructure so they generate credits, and then get the mines. When you finally get to a planet that will be contested, THEN start thinking about defensive structures, but really, you shouldn't be building defensive structures on planets that are never going to nee

The problem is you gotta be nearby the starbase. If you're 2+ jumps away and he's brought his own small fleet with it, you're screwed. He's free to take pot shots at you as you destroy the starbase OR his starbase makes it because you spend your effort killing off the fleet first. If you're right there and can get to it as it starts, sure, counterable. But that's not the problem. The problem is it takes a long time just to get to it while it's being constructed.</

To continue the RON off topic tangent thoughts, I want assassin in this game mode. The mode where you can only attack one person and you only have one person after you. I always loved that game mode.

Normally you can predict where the pirates are going to strike. It'll be at the planet that's the closest to the pirate base. Sometimes it can be hard to tell which planet this is, which can get a little frustrating, but Anderson pretty much got it. Put a cap ship there with a repair bay or two and some turrets. You don't need to leave too much behind, because pirate units compared to other tec/advent/vasari units are about 1/2 the toughness. The biggest thing to worry about is the se

In all fairness, I've tried to complain less lately and play more. Really, the bugs that are mentioned aren't game breaking. The current balance is a little gamebreaking, but this is only if someone exploits it to the max, and tbh, most players don't. The exception here might be Illuminator spammers, while they are a pain in the ass, they probably are the only thing in the game that's left that makes me pull my hair out. It's a worthwhile investment, however if I were you I would be w

Ah rushing. So annoying. I wish Sins had the feature that Rise of Nations had. You could set a timer on how long until aggression could commence. Like, say, just put a 15 minute "all peaceful" mandate on the game. Anywho, the best rushing tactic is Illums with a mothership just because of the sheer power. Starbase rushing can stop it at one planet, but unless that planet is the homeworld, the illums can just go somewhere else. My personal favorite has gotta be using a Revalati

I'm still lost as to where people took the scout tactic and interpreted it as a rush. I'm not saying I've never used them offensively, because I have, but the VAST majority of the time I use them, I did it defensively. Back on topic: The power of scouts isn't this all powerful tactic that some seem to think it is, and that's not aimed at Sire. That's a statement in general. The fact that you need 3 scouts for every Illum is a mandate first off. 12 TEC scouts will destroy 4 ill

Kyrogre, I was making a doody joke. Saying Anatar is the #1 contributor and that I'm #2 is no insult to me at all. Annatar is a credit to the community, cause I think i've seen him post in just about every section of the forums. I stay primarily in the strategy section, focusing more on helping people come to grips with strategies that work/don't work. It wasn't mean. To be honest I laughed. I wasn't offended in the least here bro. Cykur pretty much nailed it on

Lol, sorry, no, although I can explain why. Said video came to mind when I saw this:
yummm, brains...
I do most of my posts at work (i know....not a good employee) That being said, I'm on internet explorer 6 with a very very crappy video processor. I can open links to videos, but I can't watch them, so I didn't try it. My bad dude. I'll take solice in that there's another Red vs. Blue fan out there though.
Maybe you ain't my student, but you damn well reserved a smack over the head for sabotaging our Dreams of Balanced Sins!
Wait a tic. I made an entire mod based soley on balance! I guess it's fate that before I even touched the caps that I should be called on the cap in the game I use the least. And by the way. Where do you tutor. I've got a cousin who could use your services.

In all fairness, the Devastator is still a piece of crap. Fix the bug on it, and it's still a piece of crap. Buff power surge, it's a decent anti-support cruiser option. The fact that it hits many targets rather than one target with the beams to me says it's better against multiple targets rather than one individual target. Who knows. Practice with the fixed version would tell. Jam weapons is still awful. Even with a big AOE I still think it's awful. Volatile nanites is decent
