Besides Subverters, the Phase Missile Tree. These things are beauts. Bypassing Mitigation shields. It's just ungodly against Advent. Assailants get them. Sweet. The main damage dealer in early game has them. Fighters get phase missiles. Great. Illums are vulnerable. Bombers get phase missiles. Great. Capital ships are vulnerable. The flak frigate ALSO gets phase missiles, but this isn't too useful. Fighters don't have shields, but still, helps in overall supp

Hmm....see, I know the Illuminator is great for chasing. While it's chasing the front and a side beam are firing at the fleeing capital ship, but I'm a skeptic that the other types don't fire. When I tell Assailants to chase a fleeing cap, I see a line of phase missiles chasing the capital ship, telling me they don't stop firing. I'm not saying you're wrong, but then what am I seeing? I so rarely play TEC that I can't speak for the LRM but I can speak for the Assailant. As long as the

People are doing the flak strategy to counter lrf's. I don't think the developers ever intended for this to be counter, though that's what has happened. The coming nerf is being done so people will actually use fighters to kill lrfs. Flak will now be purely anti-fighter, and fighters will be the new anti-lrf. Sure, they'll make great support to a fleet cause they are a meatshield, but they are being nerfed for purpose of balance.

So there's the question of when will my planet have paid itself off? Logic says that asteroids will pay themself off the quickest, but what about Lava, Ice, Deserts, and Terrans? I want to clarify a lot of the simplifications I've been making. To start, I consider resources as part of paying off the planet. I consider 1 resource = 4.5 cred. The market always fluctuates, so if you're watching for better conversion rates, that means you're reducing the time I'm coming up with. K

TEC: 1. Akkan (Upped Ion Bolt, it's my anti-mothership ability, great for fleeing caps too) 2. Kol (Need a rock in the fleet, LRMS are fragile) 3. Dreadnaught (Now I can split into two fleets, Akkan and Dreadnaught with some support goes one way, Kol and most of the fleet goes another, the Akkan and Dreadnaught can destory planets and colonize while the Kol and fleet keep the bulk of the enemy occupied) 4. Another Dreadnaught 5. Dunov (Gotta keep the caps alive) 6. A

In theory it sounds great, but few games last for the 3-5 hrs u'd need to get that, unless ur playing AI. Vasari have a better version of this. Their carrier cap lvl 6 is a mini frigate factory in and of itself. It clones a unit three times. YAY.

Ah, Mazuo, I'm sorry, I'll answer your question. I do not have the manual because I bought this game online, but here's how the mechanic works. Some weapons, like on the flak frigates, the Illuminator, and most Capital ship weapons, are mounted facing multiple directions. The way you figure out what kind of damage these guns are going to do is take the face value of the damage and divide it amongst the guns. This is done in two ways. Way #1 is to have them evenly dis

Ok, understand that Advent capital ships are in a league of their own. They all work together and syngergize so much that Vasari and TEC caps just don't compare, although unfortunately it sounds like you were victim of an Illum spammer. Pure Illum spammers unfortunately aren't great players, they just spam the best ship in the game. Capital ships are not meant to be the bulk of your forces, but rather to be a support ship for your fleet. TEC caps are rather....direct in their function.

Oh boy. It's a hard answer to give man. Be wary of massing scouts, cause unfortunately upgraded Illums, once toughened up, will tear through scouts. 1 v 1 strategies are different than 3v3 or FFA obviously. Since ur playing random 1 v 1 I'm assuming, then you're likely never going to see your opponent for 30 minitues or so. That makes civ build acceptable. Civ build is an investment that needs time to pay for itself. What I do is do my best to do two things. 1. Get

First off: to Ironclad and Stardock :CONGRAT: this patch in and of itself is an amazing addition to the game. Kudos. Now I have to be that overbearing parent that criticizes a child who brings home a 95 on a test and tells him that he could have gotten a 96. I'm so happy to see some of the fixes to gameplay you're mixing in. The Illuminator is being brought on par with the other lrf's. It's only a subtle nerf, but I see where this is coming from. T

Yes, you must stay close to the cap ship. If you zoom out and put your cursor over the ability of that capship, a circle should pop up showing you the radius it affects. I'm almost certain that does the trick, but if not then press alt too. That shows everything. Timing is crucial for some abilities. Shield regen should be fired when a ship is about to die to prolong it's life. Malice + cleansing brilliance has to be so carefully timed that it has lost most of it's value. Anim

A developer mentioned that ship slots, production cost, and construction time are all being raised. Fighters and bombers are going to be kinda bleh. They're really getting two buffs: 1. If you have two fighter squadrons being created, you'll now get 2 replacement fighters every time your ship rebuilds fighters, not 1 like it is now. 2. Their cost overall is being reduced. I think it's in the ball park of a 15% cost reduction. They won't be the new spam, but they'll d

What happens is when you get experienced enough, pirates are no longer a big deal, and actually, you welcome them sometimes. You can predict where the pirates are going to launch because they always go to your planet that's closest to the pirate base. Since you know where they're gonna hit, you can prepare for them, like say build up your fleet so you can fight them when they show up. What's happening is players anticipate the pirates, keep their expanding of eco and military g

Your instinct to go after the cap is a good one. Caps are incredibly hard to replace early on, and it hurts the fleet the most to lose it. You were manually going in an microing units, which is the most effective way to take out a fleet. If it helps your guilt any, there is incentive to just let the fight go on it's on. Shield mitigation factors in and encourages you to not target one ship with everything. Shield mitigation is a damage negation factor. The quicker the ship takes damage

@Horseman I turn the Halcyon off auto cast and wait till I can hit all the fighters/bombers. If fighters and bombers are the bulk of your force, I'll effectively nullify then for about 15 seconds-ish with one capital ship, and I can do that repeatedly at my leisure. Phase out hull isn't permanent either, and eventually the ship runs out of antimatter. At which point I fire off the bitch slap of doom. @AntiWiggin Actually, it's a lot of the stuff we said about the LRM

The problem I have with the fighter idea is that an Illum spammer typically has a Halcyon in tow. The Halcyon can make fighters ineffective with that mondo bitch slap of doom. It doesn't kill them, takes two to five to kill them, depending on type and race, but it renders them ineffective. They're pushed away, they're slowed, they have acceleration reduced, and have damage done to them. I just don't trust fighters as of yet. Capital ships with a couple squadrons of fighters combined wi

The numbers don't lie, great post. It's problematic to follow that sense of logic however. The shield upgrade has more value. It not only ups max shields, but ups shield regen, making ships tougher. It also doesn't just upgrade Illuminator shields, it upgrades any ship's shields that you own. Also, for advent, you must get shield regen upgrades to get to the Guardian, an invaluable addition to any advent fleet. Health regen also ups health regen rate. Health regen's big perk

Well, they shouldn't be too good against light frigates, as light frigates are the counter. Fighters and bombers aren't too good against medium armor, which the light frigate has. Carriers have heavy armor. Light frigates do anti-heavy damage, and are the only ship besides maybe bombers that can chase down the actual carrier and destroy it. Lrf's can somewhat chase them down, but be wary of fighters if you're using lrf's. HC's can in general catch them, but be wary o
