Oh, and you're gonna need more light frigates now. Since carriers take up 20 slots or 14 slots, that means roughly 3-5 are needed against advent, and 2-3 against TEC/Vasari. If an opponent has focused PURELY on one unit, he's made your job easy. Make a fleet of PURELY the counter, and watch for if/when he builds a different kind of unit and bring the counter to that.

Flak kinda don't serve a role anymore. Side stepped the point? Go check. 3 Bombers don't take out light frigs all that easily. Both fighters and bombers do 50% of their statistical damage against medium armor. One of the key designs of the carrier is that they made the bombers and fighters weak against light frigates and flak. Also, light frigates are quicker than carriers, meaning they're the only unit besides bombers (carriers can carry fighters so using bombers is a risky t

I have to disagree with the need to buff light frigates. Carriers (even without the 1.09 bug) are a huge force, yes, but they cost an arm and a leg, and take up a lot of ship slots. The drawback to carriers is you don't have that same concrete force as any other kind of fleet. If you're in a late game where the other person has huge amounts of carriers and lrf's, then yes, that's an obstacle, but also a shame on ur part for letting him/her get to that point.

Flak...don't...counter...bombers. Flak are purely anti-fighters. Flak do anti-very light damage. Don't get me wrong. Flak will kill off bombers...slowly and eventually. What's happened is you finally actually have to make a large enough group of flak to counter enemy fighters. So since the new Advent carrier has 20 slots, that means you need probably 15-20 slots of flak, meaning about 4-5 TEC/Advent flak, 3-4 Vasari flak. The real counter to fighters/bombers is to make

When my enemy had 30 squadrons of Bombers I got this to attempt to stall. I can't speak for opposing Vasari/TEC fighters, but when I went up against advent I activated the ability but the enemy fighters/bombers just kept on firing. Jam weapons is supposed to stop enemy strikecraft from firing in a certain area, but as of the moment it does nothing.

1 lane from homeworld That's attached to a lava with 2 mines....bleh...ok That lava has two lanes, attached to TWO empty asteroid fields...ok, now i'm pissed a little. The two asteorid fields have 3 lanes and 2 lanes...respectively. Each has one lane that heads my asteroid, two mines of course. The 3 phase line empty field has one lane that goes to nothingness in a plasma cloud. The 3rd of those lines goes to an asteroid field with 1 metal mine.

Fighting off Illums with LRMS is by no means impossible, and really, kudos Wiggin. The problem is the overwhelming trend is that TEC seems to lose in most cases to an Illuminator spam. Personally, I say the way TEC can be made competitive is to include Tradeports in the upgrade that makes mines and frig/cap factories cheaper.

Compared to Advent and Vasari, TEC ironically have the worst early game econ (as in the first 30-45 minutes). I know they're supposed to be the economist race, but TEC lack what Advent and Vasari have: an early game economy bonus. What do I mean by that? Well, in an online match the pace of the game is so fast that it's rare for the game to go 30 minutes without you and an opponent butting heads. Advent and Vasari can manage both an economy and a fleet early because they have some sor

Good strategy concerning TEC? It's pretty simple. In the game lobby, go and click on the TEC icon. Either click once, twice, or three times. You will either get the "change to Vasari upgrade", the "Change to Advent upgrade", or the "Change to Random Race upgrade", a 66% chance of getting a better race than TEC. ;) In all seriousness though, TEC is god awful. They have the worst early game economy and frankly need a huge buff to be on the same page as Advent and Vasari. The f

I know it's an exploit, but I love it. I personally hope it doesn't get fixed. The reason you can scuttle it is (and I'm guessing) because the programming for the mines on a planet and neutral mines is the same, meaning you can scuttle them. Mines at planets can be rebuilt, neutral mines can't.

The most infamous combination of enemy caps online I think would be the Advent Progenitor Mothership combined with the Halcyon Carrier Capital Ship. This is the classic capital ship composition of an Illuminator spam. The mothership was used to colonize and then for battle either supports with Malice or Shield regen. The Halcyon is chosen because it will make the ships shoot faster. So....me? Assuming I'm not Advent myself... 1. Evacuator and a Kortul Devestator

I've been told that the developers never intended for this to be a part of the game, but you can scuttle neutral mines. Personally, I like what this does to the game. It adds a whole new dimension to Vasari. TEC and Advent tend to only have access to a few neutral mines that are close by because their colonizer has to actually make it there. Vasari, however, use scouts that have no problem getting to mines on the other side of the map, so this brings new strategic elements. Ea

All structures and ships in this game that you can own can be scuttled. Scutlling structures can make sense. Most people scuttle their capital ship factory because it brings a nice boost to the economy in the ealry stages of games. You can also clear slots for a different type of building. Sometimes, it makes sense to scuttle a type of ship if your opponent has massed the ship that counters it (like if he has an lrf spam and you have an lrf spam urself but also a few light fr

The bombing ability can be damn useful. You can knock out key buildings ur opponent is relying on heavily, such as repair bays and frigate factories. If you managed to take those out, then military labs, because then he won't be able to build some of his ships anymore. (It's great if you can get the third military lab of an Advent if possible)

Oy, scouts should never be the bulk of the fleet. They only kill lrms and scouts. Anything else and they're pathetically weak. 1.1 is gonna just make them weak. I find that a single bomb does give or take 1200 damage. The problem is you gotta give the ability some time to kick in. A little orange circle pops up over the scout. Once that circle disappears, the ability will fire, even if the scout is destoryed. I find scouts to make great support to early game fleets, not to be

It's worth mentioning that Advent have a tier 8 logisitics tech that has two levels and will upgrade max planet allegiance by 5% each level, so a total +10%. It's a good tech for huge empires (i.e. 8 non-asteroid planets or more). The way it goes is without broadcast centers: Homeworld: 100% 1 jump from HW: 90% 2 jumps from HW: 80% 3 jumps from HW: 70% 4 jumps from HW: 55% 5 jumps from HW: 40% 6+ jumps from HW: 25% Planets available only through blac

To upgrade your fleet capacity to tier x, you have to have a minimum x lab(s). They can be either civil or military labs. So, for tier two, you need a minumum two labs, and so on.
