For everyone who has read the Praxis trilogy, there are a few similarities to SoaSE. Wormhole paths between planets (Phasing), LRM/Torpedo ships, huge empires with convoluted pathways around between varying planets based on wormholes. There are notable, but probably solvable, differences. EDIT: This mod will henceforth be called the Anticipation of Victory mod. My thought was, with some tweaking Larger gravity wells by a ton Phasing is instant but moti

Are Space Marines going to have their own faction independent of the IN?
oops I think that I just resurrected a thread... Waacka Waacka
I agree with the general vein of this thread. Flak would be good for three reasons: 1) It makes sense. It's a glaring hole in the defenses of capital ships that they can't defend themselves, even minimally, from the second-most spammed unit in the game. 2) It's a glaring hole in the defenses of your biggest investments. 3) Flak (or equivalent anti-strikecraft) looks REALLY awesome. as an aside, it could
looking purely at TEC, I break them down the following way: Kol: big guns, lots of health Marza: lots of missiles, lots of health Akkan: I don't need to wait for that stupid colony ship! Dunov: Shield repair heals more shields than any other early-game unit starts with. I take it as my 2nd or 3rd capital ship if I get one, or pair it with some Hoshiko cruisers and call it an auxiliary fleet. Sova: essentially unopposed in the early game,
I don't yet have entrenchment, so I may be a little behind. However, from what I've seen, the mod team is making extraordinary progress. Except for one crucial, easily fixable, unbelievably annoying piece. Voice acting. While there is nothing per se wrong with SoaSE voice-acting, their way-too-eager, sir-yes-sir attitude grates on the nerves after so many hours of playing. Give me vasari (or orkz from DoW), or the arrogan
I'm getting a "broken link" responce to all of the links in the first post. I first tried it using Google Chrome, then switched over to Mozilla Firefox and got the same response. What's up with that? Looking forward to being able to DL that mod, Rafi
it's so interesting how we got a very well informed physics lecture from a sci-fi thread in a forum about a sci-fi game. Oh the joys of forums. XD
yeah I usually put a lot into research, especially at the beginning. I usually start with mil tech up to about T3, then I start civ tech. Contrary to popular belief, civ tech does actually help a lot. With the TEC and the Vasari, it helps you earn a lot more money and such. With the Advent, strange and wonderful techs are available (and by that i mean karmic retribution..hehe). I am usually the one with the smallest (thus most mobile) yet strongest (because I do serious weapons/shie
lol yeah it happened to me to. I built the vasari colonizer cap. ship, and got two squads instead of one. My bet is that it deletes the squad spot, then registers as done. It is probably bypassing the code that existed beforehand for some reason.
I think we are focusing too much on how to fix the Flak frigate. We don't. The Carrier was messed up, so we mess it up again. 1) Fighters do no damage to structures, frigates, or cap. ships 2) Bombers are slower and less nimble then we can mess with the flak frigate. The reason the flak frigate's preferred target is fighters. SoaSE assumes that you have a balanced fleet, i.e. assuming that you have a lot of light frigates, with frigates, cruisers, and a cap. ship or two for supp
Today I purchased an ATI 4850, as well as a 650w power supply. Thank you to everyone who helped me choose this card.
!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!! We opened up my computer (and put it back together properly too, I'm posting from it) and found a number of things: 1) My PSU puts out 375 w DC - so it needs to be replaced 2) My computer appears to have one PCI-E x1, one PCI-E x16, and one PCI-E x8 - so I cannot SLI 3) My computer has a lot of room, The video card could be up to: 12+ inches long, multiple inches high, and 4.5 inches wide - so space is not an issue.
is NVidia more compatible with Dell (specifically the XPS 410) than ATI is?
I was looking through the Dell.com video card list (many not made by Dell), and eventually found this card: http://www.diamondmm.com/3870PE31G.php it looks very nice, is built for PCI-E, and is compatible with vista, among a number of other things. Does anyone have a pro/con comparison?
thanks BHunterSEAL
Remember, you have to keep all your parts on the relatively same level. If one component isn't as efficient/powerful as another, you're wasting a lot of time. Even if you have a mid-to-high end quad core processor and 4GB of RAM, but a really bad, I don't know, Radeon 9200SE (which could run Sins, but I haven't have time to check), the RAM and CPU will be waiting 50% of the time for the graphics card to redraw the screen to continue. This goes the same the other way, too. The most common
refute was talking about Homeworld 2 and thanks DauntlessAnsible (who I assume is a fan of Ender's Game)
FYI: PCI-E 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCI-E 1.0 slots.
it turns out that new models like the NVidia 260 and 280 cards do physically work with a PCI-E bus, but there is no support and they didn't try and write code for PCI-E compatability, just PCI-E 2 I could try it, yes, but it is (moderately) expensive and has a high risk of failing, so why take the risk?
I've had this computer for over a year, so my guess is that I got a reasonable power supply. How do I check, though, the exact specs of my power supply? do I need to go and physically see the part, or can I find the information somewhere on my computer, like in Device Manager or something?
oh. Thanks.
what? hangar bays hold MULTIPLE squads. They also have considerably more armor and don't take up fleet capacity. Especially as Advent/TEC, hangars are very worth it
hadn't thought of deleting the cap. ship factory. But if you lose you cap ship, then you have to build a new factory to build a cap ship. also, by "first cap ship is free" does that mean the first you buy in chronological order, or if you have no other cap ships then you get a free one (like if you cap ship is destroyed, and you have no others, is the new one free too?)
I am quite sure that it is a PCI-E x 16. As for power, does a standard US wall outlet put out enough power to run the 8800? I would have to look to see if there is space, but thanks for the tip.
I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop computer and want to get a video card so I can get better performance with games (SoaSE, Frontlines Fuel of War). What video cards should I be considering? The Nvidia 8800, 9600, and 9800 lines look good. The Nvidia 260 and 280 look even better but seem to need a PCI-E 2 bus. Any advice or suggestions? I don't want to fiddle with overclocki
