I see several problems here: 1. The forum community is itself a vocal minority. The majority of people who buy the game never post here. The vocal minority of the forum community is a small part of a small part of the actual player base. 2. Theorycrafters are often wrong, and severely fatalistic. If you take a look at the 1.0.4 change log thread, there's people predicting doom and gloom, flaming each other over how its going to be impossible to win as Advent. None of them have
This is a good thread.I have a question about refineries. Should I build refineries on adjacent planets? I mean if a refinery uses resource extractors around its planet (A) and the adjacent ones (B and C), does it mean that if I build another refinery on B it would take over the resources around B (i.e. refinery around A won't use them anymore) and then the total output will stay the same?
If you look at your extractors, they have a "refinery quota" stat on them. Thats th
You won't see phase lanes between the stars even after you have the tech researched, but you will be able to have the ships go between them by simply ordering them to go to the star the same way you'd tell them to go to a planet.
Oh boy, a whiny pirate. Why would they make a Linux port based on the feedback of someone who wouldn't buy the game anyway? About the only legit thing in this entire post is the online price. I found it confusing that a digital only version directly from Stardock is $45 US, but a physical copy from a store (with much higher distribution costs) is $40 Canadian. Not that I mind paying $5 less for a game, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
Yeah I failed that one a couple of times before I figured out what was going on. The very first thing you need to do is buy that capital upgrade. Oh, and get your free capital ship, since you probably won't be able to afford much else for a while.
And nothing about MP stability ???
I think they said that 1.1 (the patch after 1.0.4) will have a completely new implementation of Multiplayer. Thats probably the patch with the fix you need.
Civilian structures are things like research stations, extractors, and tradeports. AFAIK its actually anything built with logistical slots. Not sure about the ship thing, that one has always worked for me.
/agree It seems like a bug to me, trade routes shouldn't break in gravity wells that can have 0 population (its not like the ships will stop to trade with nobody?).
There is a victory screen. Its kind of underwhelming itself, but its definitely better then graphs. You probably clicked past it without realizing it.:)
At some point you're going to want to unlock new ships. You'll want the first couple before too long, since they're LRMs and Flak, both of which are quite helpful. Then you can wait a while, but the other ship types do help. Heavy Cruisers are pretty nice, when the time comes to get them.
That file is just the patch, to upgrade the game. The other stuff should be somewhere, but I'm not sure where since I have a boxed copy.
LOL. :D
Wormholes appear on the map in the same way that planets do. That map has two of them IIRC. 4/3 on refinery quota means that an extra refinery is in range and not getting used by that extractor, yeah.
[link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/305565"]According to this[/link], a simple way to look at it is every point of armor effectively increases the hull of the ship by 5%. If you had 0 armor and it took 100 shots to bring the hull, adding 1 armor will make it take 105 shots, 2 armor will take 110, etc. It actually works by reducing the damage taken, and the formula is in the link. Its just easier to think about it by increasing the number of shots the ship can take by 5%. :)<br/
AFAIK: Killing trade ships takes credits away from their owner. A trade alliance lets the allied persons tradeports be considered in the calculation to find the longest route, and makes that person not fire on your trade ships (but they can still fire on your other ships). Not sure about the rest, sorry.
The armor type is determined by the ship, as is the damage type. Some ships deal more damage to certain kinds of armor and less to others. The amount of armor doesn't change the type, and more armor is always better. I think (can't check at work) that this chart lists off the different armor types: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/177682
Capital ships "repel" enemy culture, effectively stopping a certain amount of it from spreading (the rate is on the info card for the ship, and goes up as the ship levels). They don't raise your own culture, the only way to do that is with Media Hubs. Media Hubs increase allegiance on their host planet, and on nearby ones up to the maximum (listed on the planets info card, its determined by the distance from homeworld, and I'm not sure how distance is calculated). They don't increase th
It'll be a long, cold day in Hell before Blizzard would decide to kill off DRM (no doubt a prerequisite for distributing on Impulse).-HM
Blizzard recently patched out the copy protection from Warcraft 3. Their main protection is cd-keys for Battle.net anyway (and subscriptions for WoW), so they wouldn't actually lose much there. They've shown serious reluctance to do digital distribution, but DRM doesn't seem to be related to it.
What refresh rate are you running at? At one point I had an LCD that for some reason got blurry over 60 Hz.
(you can even have it on both and play a LAN game, we don't mind).
They're cool that way. :)
I bought my copy in box form, and I had a hard time finding it. The quality of retail shelf space does matter. Other then that, the logo is useful to Vista users. It means that the game isn't going to misbehave in certain ways (location of save games, using the Games Explorer, not requiring admin access to play). The last one is pretty important if you have kids and would rather they not have admin access (which is a great way to get viruses over-running your computer). For XP
As it stands right now, there is really no reason to ever pick a refinery over a trade port. Trade Ports generate a lot more income, and you can spend that income on anything (upgrades, capital ship levels, ships, metal/crystal via black market). You may also want a refinery in places with access to a lot of resource nodes, but not on the scale of trade ports (which I just put in every system I can).
The last time I had multiple Deliverance Engines (in different systems), I had them all bound to 0 in a group, and could tab through them. I'm not sure why that didn't work for you.
Personally I think repair abilities should be spammable like units are. If you can get 20 HCs focus firing at my one ship, I should be able to have 20 Robotics Cruisers all repairing it at the same time. Repair would never be useless like that.
It really depends. In the early game, you don't have the firepower to take out a capital ship quickly. Your best bet at that point is to eliminate the support the other guys capital ship has, that being the frigates. A lone capital ship has no chance against a capital ship + frigates, so you can turn the fight quickly. (The Radiance is really effective at this point because it can force ships to attack it. His Light Frigates attacking a Radiance basically just tickle it, meanwhile you'r
