I don't see how the expansions can achieve the stated goal of better mod support. The mods are supposed to be enabled IF all players have them. Otherwise you have vanilla Sins. Since you have to buy them, not all players will have them. So unless they patch the core of the game, surely nothing can be changed via the expansion??? The only way I can see this happening is 1) they patch the underlying game (e.g. V1.2) or we wait until Sins2 comes out with a new game engine... Now,

Shame to hear - I guess this just leaves Star Trek Online...
Let impulse patch the game - just have the pre-release option unchecked so it patches to 1.05
I believe that research affecting phase missiles would - i.e. the better the research, the more of the swarm would bypass the shields...
The mods are for 1.05. They can't be converted to 1.1 until it comes out officially
Of course nowadays all your boot settings are kept in Flash and there's no need for battery backed CMOS so people under 30 might not even recognize the term but I assume there are a few codgers out there that know what I'm talking about.
Hey - I'm sub 30!!! (For another month and a few days...)
Build illums. Lots of illums!!!! :)
He's no noob if he read the forums, and atleast tried SP first. A newb maybe but not a noob. A NEWb is new. A NOOb is someone who makes you want to cry NOO! when he joins your team.
I know - Hence why I said "Is a newb, not a noob"... I figured if I posted this thread, some other newbs could read it, understand what 20 did that made him not be a NOOB as there have been a number of people bitching about team stacking etc... lately.
People pump out heaps of capitals as if they are a god send. The more you have, the slower they level up. 3 Kodiaks and a few hoshikos cost less then a capital. And will take it down with some of them surviving... You would do better with 40-50 Kodiaks in the fleet instead of all of those caps. But I DO agree about the hoshikos plus a few cielos. And throw in a heap of fighters/bombers for hitting power...
The pause was mentioned earlier. If the game is too fast, you could always turn the speed settings down...
In my view ... Vista can be named as Windows Me 2 ...
Could you elaborate as to what your view is based on? Vista has been fantastic for me, once I accepted the fact that hardware required drivers, so old stuff wouldn't work. But since I built a system from the ground up to run Vista 64, it wasn't an issue for me.
I know they do - but they still get drunk and do silly things for giggles... The thing you have to remember with MP in Sins is that quote from The Phantom Menace "There's always a bigger fish."
For those that know me from MP, you will know my stats (currently 120 wins). About 80-90 of those would be with TEC in a teams game. That was me taking down all 3 races. You have to know how to play with them, same as any other race. Someone who builds heaps of LRMs IS going to lose... Someone who builds a mixed fleet with HCs - that is going to hurt...
You forget one other thing Planetary. Some people have been playing online for awhile. They have friends. Some of those friends might even have multiple names (e.g. the DT guys depending on if they are in clan or individual mode). these people like to play together for a number of reasons, not all of which are getting a win. Here are some I can think of in 30 seconds: 1) They know they don't quit 2) They know they don't swear, bitch, moan or insult and are even courteous - e.g
That's the whole point of my argument - it is taking the game in a dirrection it was never DESIGNED to go. You design a truck to move large amounts of cargo. You can't then want it to transport the family. Your requirements are contrary to the product's design, hence the product will not (and can not) do what you want, unless there is a major retrofit. And putting seats in the cargo area of a truck would only turn it into an ugly bus... It is a silly example, but I hope it makes a point. Sins
Whilst I am sypathetic to what you are both saying (being computer litterate, I get the $#its with someone who asks me "dumb" questions all the time), the difference between now and 10 years ago is: "More computer users, most of which are less technical" - e.g. Grandparents etc... They just want it to work. Unfortunately they don't understand that computers do what you tell them to do, not what you want them to do. The other issue is that the Internet is more dangerous
Don't move. I'll go get you a towel!!!
I'm running Vista 64 bit (8GB, Q6600). I was running a game the other day, minimised it, forgot it was running (was at a menu) and fired up another game. The other game ran fine, and I didn't realise until I closed the game I was in and went back to the desktop and saw the minimsed game. (One of the games was SoaSE - just can't remember 100% which was which. IIRC I minimsed SoaSE to try out the Political Machine Express I installed via Impule). Super sweet
I think some of the BIG differences this time around will be: 1) Hardware is relatively cheaper so will run the OS better. Especially the extra RAM 2) 64 bit has finally cracked the home market (I love 64 bit Vista - 8GB = sweet). 3) The 3rd party software will be better supported as developers have started to come to terms with Vista/Server 2008 technology.
I bet the Developers Love to see that. They are "Trying " to sell games not run potential players/customers away.
Yeah - except if the person isn't happy with the game as is, then are they really a player???
Maybe - but it was nice to see a newb playing who understood the game a little rarther then going straught to MP, so I thought I would mention it...
well i give up i found that v1.05 and still nothing it wont and i give up its not worth the hassle trying to get it to work im not bothering sorry
Dumb question - you did install 1.05 right? And then copied the mod to the right folder? e.g. C:\Users\XXX User\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods (Vista)
We get that you want it for SP only. But SP Sins is the SAME as MP Sins - I can host a MP game with 9 AI in it. The game SHOULD play the same, or you are playing a DIFFERENT game. I read your reply and went "well, why not just pause the game then???" - looks likeSakhari had the same idea. You know, I was thinking. Someone should make Total War games real time like Sins. Oh wait. No, you can't becuase one is TURN BASED STRATEGY and the other is REAL TIME strategy... If you
It can be viable - I won a game I had almost lost by getting RA up. The other player attacking me played dumb and had a fleet battle with superiour numbers vs my fleet. He should have killed my phase stabalisers and moved some of his fleet onwards to my other planets to kill my research centres. Since he didn't, I spammed stabalisers and my fleet finally killed his (my allies were getting beat up badly during this time as it was a 3v3 game that ended up as 3 1v1 games with a bit of 2
True - but the main factor with trade is you get X per trade port (unless there are any buffs or nerfs against a planet). X is calculated on the length of the longest trade chain. So your trade income won't change with allegiance - but your tax and resource rates do. So you have to work out what gets you more - more trade and less tax/resouces or vice versa
