Q6600 8GB 3870X2 Vista Ultimate 64bit No issues - I am always starting the game (hosting or otherwise) and getting stuff queued up while others are lagging/loading. The biggest difference I am seeing between your rig and mine is the video card - though I thought the Nvidia driver issues were fixed (haven't really followed it that close since it didn't affect me).

I am having an issue connecting today (and was being dropped yesterday) and I normally host people (witnessed by The Monk before I get told I don't know what I'm doing). Wonder if it os my end or IC Online end??? And now I can connect again - it seems to be intermitenet and only last for a minute or two

If you play with teams, some of the better players will often check in on you and the rest of the map to see what is happening and they will make "recommendations" - e.g. build ABC, or research XYZ, or attack this planet/structure. This is often a great help when you are learning as it gives some insight into what makes them so good.
1.) As Patton said, "Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man." Don't build turrets or hangers unless you have hit fleet cap and it would be unreasonable to expand your fleet cap. However, repair bays are excellent - they extend the life of all structures around them, including themselves, and your ships. Repair Bays are a worthy tech to grab when you realize one of your worlds is a choke point. Build Repair Bays in pairs or not at all. 1.a.) Hangers, built in pairs, can
Worse, you have to get into some awkward discussion with a non-gamer about how you're playing a game that you can't pause and that you also don't want to stop either, often this is met with confusion and possibly a little offence; all this is occurring sometimes while you're playing the game and you're busy looking at the screen and not them - even more rude!
It's funny because it is true - my finacé doesn't understand why I can't come and help her with the house work right th

My biggest gripe about online people is that some choose to play SP in a MP game - the biggest annoyance I am finding is people who don't commit to a fight and try and get RA without contributing any fleet to any fights. If they fail to get it, other people get blamed for not protecting them and/or sending them resources. I played a game the other day that was 5v5 on a huge multi. It was 2v3 in the centre galaxy (I was one of the 2) and the other guy decides to run for another galaxy

I said it before - but after playing another game where the AI took over and had a huge fleet THE ABILITY FOR THE AI TO BE CLEAVER ENOUGH TO WORK WITH ALLIES!!! i.e. jump where they are asked to attack/defend AND TO STOP RUNNING AWAY WHEN THEY HAVE A SMALL CHANCE OF GETTING A BLOODY NOSE!!! Arrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... The amount of shouting I am doing at an AI that won't engage but would win the game if it did is amazing!

I have found that if explansion potential is limited due to other people holding planets, trade ports are a great way to get your economy going. They also can give you a good stimulation if you move up to higher fleet research levels as putting in some trade ports replaces the income you loose to fleet upkeep. I have played a number of games where I have gambled on getting trade ports up and running, and then start pumping out some LRMS and hoshikos. Quite often I am in last pl

Try playing online - then you will REALLY know what it is like to be a punching bag for 3-4 factions :) You think you have the upper and then someone comes along with a fleet they have been building up while you and the guy you are fighting slug it out...

Here are a few thoughts I have on playing MP 1) Having played SP for ages until I obtained a retail version, MP is alot more demanding, but I am finding it more fun due to the human interaction. 2) You need to be prepared to loose - especially is you are new. It takes time to learn. But you will learn more playing an MP game then SP I think ONCE YOU HAVE LEARNED THE GAME BASICS IN SP FIRST!!! A lot of people are being put off by being whipped online the first day they own the game. You c

I've also seen this, so it make me think it must be at least Hard. If only people will learn that Sins is a game you are not out of when playing teams until your last planet AND colonising ship is gone... Even then if you keep your fleet in the game you can still get a win.. Trust in your allies - if you are being worked hard by a player, chances are your allies will be able to work the undefended part of their empire...

Not as such - just differing levels of AI. You still have to do the same amount of "work" controlling your empire - the difference is how hard the AI works and how much it attacks you etc... The game does have a steep learning curve - but it is so worth it. Just don't expect to be winning against a HARD AI anytime soon. My first game saw me struggle against an easy AI using V1.0. I was playing against 2 HARD AI last night and I had taken 1 out and was fighting the 2ns using 1

As long as a game has a strong online element to it (e.g. Sins, BF2) there is no NEED for DRM. Just ensure that a user logs into an account with a password and away they go. It has worked for WoW. And if you can play single player with no dramas and then get hooked on the single player version, you are going to want to buy a copy to play online... I generally pay for a game as I can afford it and can get it on sale if I wait a little. Sins was the exception. I couldn't wait for it a

Planet shield should be ground based (e.g. like Hoth). You have to knock it down before doing damage to the planet as opposed to space based which can be blown up in orbit. Planet is FAR more likely to have the power requirements to project a shield then an orbital structure. Ground based space fighters are also an option based on a similar notion - the defence fighters scramble into orbit shortly after enemy appears in system.

But you are talking about a fundamental change in game engine design. Didn't M003 try to do what you are suggesting - I didn't give it that much attantion as it was very complicated and the general consensus seemed to be it was a crap game unworthy of the original. I understand that you want to change it, but you are talking about changing something that is intrinsically bound into the game design. I wasn't aware the game was THAT modable.

Or alternatively - they could add an exception to the firewall rather then turning it off. Both allow you to play. One leaves you unprotected. You might want to check that you are on the same subnet to.

Caps come in useful for doing something specific such as the Marza bombardment, or for the fact they can pound a planet without having krosov (or equivilent) reserched/built. But in an early battle, I would rather spend my 3000,400,250 on some LRMs and hoshikos plus a garda or two if there are fighters to deal with... Later on if I had spare resouces then I would look to get one, but only if I also had the resouces to train it up to lvl 3 or 4
