What I'd like to see is a splitting of the left hand pane, so it has minimised list of planets/fleets in the bottom half, and an expanded version of the currently focused system in the top half. At the moment it can be a real pain when trying to click on an individual ship, as when ships move around the whole pane jumps around. Perhaps having it so that when ships are destroyed/leave the system the top list doesn't jump suddenly, but the icons drift slowly into the new space, so you get a chan

You should always upgrade civ. inf. as soon as possible on any planet, otherwise you are losing credits with nothing in return. If you upgrade all the way you will gain credits instead. Your economy is based on planet income (at least until you can get a good chain of trade ports together after teching up), so planets should have as much civ. inf. as possible to increase the population you can tax.

The order of players selected before game start should match the player order in the map's .galaxy files, so you can pick what planet/system you start in, instead of it being randomised (if the map allows it/has player numbers assigned to starting planets).

What I'm trying to say is you get to test drive a car, people spend ages viewing houses to find the right one for them, but with games we have to go on reviews, screenshots and limited demos. Hopefully digital distribution/online play regulated with serial numbers can help with this problem. If you give away the full unlimited game, but with a time limit of so many hours played, and limit this demo to only playing online with other demo players (keeps things at a similar level

Where's the edit button gone? Got posted too late, and BBcode doesn't work. [edit] What's the deal??!!! I got an edit button on this one liner, but not a longer post that's more likely to need an edit. Either give an edit button on everything, or at least implement a preview.

It's a good point though. What if all piracy stopped overnight. EA could market it's derivative over hyped rubbish, and everyone who tried the game and was disappointed would be a sale for them. That isn't going to help PC gaming. While the smaller publishers would also benefit from more sales, they'd probably be hit hard by the customer dissatisfaction spreading from the big publishers. Demo's are OK so long as they're representative of the whole, but I've seen a fe

I know from experience that banning IPs and deleting forum accounts doesn't always work. All too often they come back using an anonymous proxy and a new gmail account, and start right where they left off.

It rarely does, which is why these aholes get to carry on doing it all over the net. All it takes is a redirect to a page that says: [quote]We apologise for the inconvenience, but access to this site is denied to all users from your ISP. We have done this as they refuse to enforce a reasonable standard of behavior from their users, closing the accounts of any abusive users. Please contact your ISP to inform them of your dissatisfaction at their standards of se

I'd like to make a further request to Ironclad/Stardock. If you manage to get this guy's IP (assuming he isn't using a proxy), could you ask [email protected] to close his account. They won't pay attention to the average user doing this, but if a well known company threatens to start blocking all IPs from that ISP, then said ISP either behaves and gets their users in line, or they lose customers who want access. As another victim of minidump I think he's earned this kind of respon

[quote]This was a test to find cheaters. It turns out that the two people who replied to this thread themselves were cheaters. They were reported and have been permanently banned from Rockhard Forums and Steelship Games.[/quote] Rockhard Forums is German, and therefore, not being able to understand German, I'm not a member. "Steelship Games"/"Steel Ship Games" doesn't exist (0 Google hits). I got the same PM as Earthpigg. Looks like this 'minidump' is as retarded/d

If you bought it you should have everything needed to activate it in SDC in an email (namely the serial number). If you didn't get an email then you you should get onto stardock support.

Where's the report to mods button in these forums? This guy should get his IP linked to his serial number, so he can be banned from playing.

Because as soon as someone mentions Macs one of the first posts in respone is going to be from someone whose experience is maybe just a couple of confused hours, who believes all the BS rumours/hearsay going round, and feels compelled to continue the BS. The responses to that are usually just people with a lot more experience of both Mac and Windows setting the record straight (I hate Mac fanboys too, because they know next to nothing about Windows). To be on topic I'll po

Macs stopped being proprietary years ago, when they switched to PCI, IDE and SDRAM, and while they may not be the most reliable PCs made by a big name maker, they're above average. Most of the bad stuff people say about Macs is based on the reputation gained in the beige snappy plastic, SCSI, Applenet and Apple-link era, when they were very proprietary, crashed endlessly, all the software was pay for only, and they refused to work well with anything but other Macs or officially licensed

Chances are he was BSing you to get a sale. Go for direct download. More often than not more of your money will go to the developers, you'll save some money yourself, and can get your hands on the game quicker than mail order. The game gets easier as you learn more about all the units and tech tree items, and how to use them together effectively (along with the many shortcut keys).

How about surgical strikes from Halcyon + Rapture's strike craft, backed up by Drones, and a few support frigates (in tight formation with the carriers to give their fighters the benefit of the caps abilities). Thats a lot of firepower. If you get countered with a lot of flak you can dock the strike craft, as the flak won't do too much damage to capitals, which will be targeting flak to allow the fighters out again. I micro my fighters round the chasing flak to take out most of the LR

Maybe LRFs need the option of retreating at a higher than normal speed. Hit the retreat button to activate it, but you won't be able to fire for a set time (reroute weapon energy to engines).

Game needs a 'no rushes' mode, so people can try some defensive play, and get to attack with F.O. big fleets later on. Maybe start the game with an enforced cease fire, and penalise the economy of the first to break treaty, until a percentage of unoccupied territories are used up, and then the cease fire is over and it's all out war over territory. Games would be a lot more interesting with some serious defenses and supporting economies in place, instead of just being about who

You could also buy something like a Honda/Nissan/Toyota and spend thousands turning it into a street racer, or buy a Ferrari that won't perform as well for more money. My desktop fits the first category (780i, SLI'd GTS512s, OCed E4300, 2GB RAM, liquid cooling, 28" monitor). My laptop the second (Macbook Pro 17", 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, mobile 8600GT, 1920x1200 screen). Sins doesn't tax the hardware at all at those specs. It looks truly stunning at 1920x1200, although 2
