I think the key to eventually getting exotic matter is going to be through the manipulation and focus of energy. Not really. Let me explain: It is said that the sun has a tremendous amount of energy. Th

The most surprising thing to me about the binary system is how close the stars are to each other. I'm guessing that it formed further out and was pulled in? I might be off base here, but I think that in most binary systems the stars orbit in a way that is closer to a figure-8 (each star has a circular orbit). As for the wormhole information... Once again, negative mass (exotic matter) is used. If you can find/make exotic matter, it's probably easier to make a warp drive, but t
Well, I see what your getting at... The expansion is called Rebellion, so the rebellion should take place while you are playing the game. And seeing as how theres no campaign, it should be a game mechanic. On the other hand, the last expansion was called Diplomacy and I dont really think there was any diplomacy going on. The current picture of things is that eventually you can focus y

ok, just so we're clear: please give me 1 specific example of the type of thing that you believe, hypothetically, could fall into a wormhole and not destroy it. Uses of the word 'energy' will receive a $314.16 fine. As a contrast: An electron that enters the wormhole will collapse it. I think theres trouble here anyhow due to the quantum foam, but I don't know how such things work. It seems to me that entropy would wreck havok on the edges of the hole and cause th
hmmm.... unless their minds have changed since that interview (and im sure it has a bit at least), that would either mean that the scenarios will be multi-player compatible or I'm misunderstanding "Play through 10 new Scenarios designed to give players of all ages a good time.", which has been suggested earlier in this thread. If that's the case, that's the case. In the mean time, I'm going to hope for scenarios in the manner I described earlier; meaning limited resour

The issue you are really referring to here is the amount of detail attributed to the prediction (ie, the date and time of an earthquake/thunderstorm, or the exact location within 10ft). Sure, we will get better at these things with time, but not much more in understanding. The
The game update rate isn't causing this problem, is it? maybe + and - got bound twice or something? I dont know if the update rate works in multiplayer, but as I haven't seen a mention of update rate here I thought I'd check.
I think you know by now that I dont wish to verbally attack you, but seeing as how this has gone back and forth a bit, I wanted to throw out a disclaimer. Judging by the number of people who think that you can build some kind of faster-than-light spaceship to get to the other solar system, I really dont think that there is a lack of imaginative 'fire'. The thing is that there isn't really a reason to go to the nearest solar system, or really any system nearby. If there happened to be another Sol nearby, there would be alot more focus on that goal. But this is the same as saying that if Mars was warm and wet, we
This is actually an interesting question for the nomenclature people- is it a planet or a star? The thing is essentially solid, but so are neutron "stars", and while it's the size of a planet it used the be the size of a star. For people on earth, it still takes around 30,000 years due to relativistic effects.
I'm sorry, I was mistaken. If you did manage to hit 10% of light speed (I wouldnt hold my breath on that just yet), it is fast enough to cut down on the time, but not so fast that relativity makes a significant dent in that time. I still question getting up to that speed thoug
Don't get me wrong. Space exploration, I feel, should continue to be utilized and we should settle other planets. Im all for that. so he's asking about the update rate, which scales the speed of the whole game on the fly. some of the answers here are about the game speed options, which is not changable once you enter the game. If I plan on playing at regular update rate throughout the game, I am planning on a longer game (even though all game speed options are set to 'fastest'). If I want a quick game, I drop the game speed settings to normal, then increase the update rate in the game. It can mak

I mentioned a long time ago that it would be a good idea to make the flagship of a fleet give a passive affect of some kind. I would much rather the whole fleet system get fixed at this point, but we'll see. The fleet system could potentially cut down on the empire tree jumpiness (the fleet displayed via the fleet icon doesnt change as ships move from system to system), but it doesnt work correctly for other reasons. Maybe the flagship would get an AM regen bonus, and also receive

yeah, the 4x speed is the worst thing you are probably doing to it. If you want things to progress faster, alter the speed options in the game options. Or you can start off at a fast pace and slow it down once your system starts slowing down.
Seriously.... it takes 30,000 years. Not 25, not 50, not 100... 30 thousand at the very least . And that is to the nearest star, Alpha centauri, which has no planets. A nuclear reactor is no good for that long of a journey unless you can build/rebuild a new one. How can you do that on a space ship? You cant. Alright fine. We can take one of Mars' moons. Its smaller, doesnt have water (that I'm aware of), and probably is
