Tbh, I don't think FTL travel is possible for humans... or anything large, really. Teleportation seems likely, but you know... you have to get there first to build a transporter. It wouldnt be like star trek where theres no machine on the ground (although it could be possible with some clever engineering, I suppose). But warp drive? You'd need loads of energy. That article claims you'd need to convert the mass of jupiter into pure energy to do it. That seems low. Most of

Neutrons are not made of an electron, antineutrino and a proton. However, you can get those out of a neutron through beta decay. Neutrons are made of an up quark and 2 down quarks. The quarks do have electrical charge (up = +2/3, down = -1/3. The third is purely due to the long history of calling electrons -1 and protons +1). Essentially, what happens is a down quark converts to an up quark by emitting an electron and neutrino. You could also do the opposite, known as inverse beta de

Actually, a better system, if gound warfare was to be considered, would be something like Star Wars: Rebellion. You have troops which you load on your capital ships, troop transports, and planets (in Sins, it might make sense to put them on siege frigates). Then, instead of bombing the planet, you try to invade it. If your army is better than the opponents (with some random numbers thrown in), you take over the planet. However, you could install shield generators so that they could no

I have 2 ideas from this post that some people thought were good ideas, so I'm posting them here. Add in a chart that helps players understand the strength and weaknesses of the different ships. Something like the damage modifiers chart or the frigate comparison chart. Make tutorial levels moddable, or so that modders can add tutorial levels, if it's not too much trouble. The tutorials have all th

No one knows what goes on inside a black hole. The laws of physics break down due to gravity being so strong and affecting things on the quantum level. You need both these theories to be able to say what's going on, and right now they are not exactly compatible (there are limited interpretations and some ideas such as String Theory that may/may not work). Black hole evaporation is due to quantum fluctuations on the outside of the black hole. All around us, particles temporarily po

updated with the mine squadron fix, and the addition of the xp chart. TODO: Make the data import work better so it either knows where to look or tells you what it wants. Sandbox updates, return the data about resources that used to be in there and mysteriously disappeared, add capital ship comparisons, add fleet comparisons, maybe add some kinda neat-o damage-over-time chart. Make data more readable. Doesn't mean any of that is happening soon, mind you.

The above article is indeed a big breakthrough for quantum computers. What they are talking about is they found a way to resist decoherence with large collections of particles, which is essential to scaling up to a full computer. You can't really compute much with just 1 particle and the more you add, the harder it is to prevent the breaking of entanglement. This is useful for a teleporter as well, as to teleport any large object you would need a ton of entangled particles. [quote

You know the screen where you select which research tree you want to look at? Put it there. Or you could have the info cards link to it. Or it could be in the system menus. It's not hard to 'find

[quote who="kyogre12" reply="18" id="2976966"] I'm confused about your confusion . For one, I'm not sure what you think light has to do with it (aside for light being part of electromagnetism). Essentially, most subatomic particles have a quantam mechanical property known as spin. The spin of a particle determines it's magnetic (dipole) moment. The electron dipole moment is what causes the magnetism of permanant magnets and such. The other way to get magnetism is t

i dont think your getting the idea that both the ring and the ship are moving at the same speed in opposite directions so that they meet back up every half-orbit. But its okay... I can't build it and it wouldn't work very well. Anyone want to talk about teleporting? eh?

When I was younger, I thought it would be a good idea to make a giant ring in orbit big enough to fly a ship through that would accelerate it via magnets when it flew through the center. obviously, you'd have to magnetize the hull as well, but since you're in orbit and the ring is in orbit, you'll circle around back to the ring again (this time in a higher orbit, obviously). I figured you could build up alot of speed that way before you leave earth orbit. I've never run t

Entanglement is a key part of quantum teleportation, and there is alot of uses for entanglement (not to mention it's wierd and worth studying on that note alone). However, I wouldn't really say that a quantum computer uses quantum teleportation (which is what the original post was about). Entanglement is a key to both, so studying entanglement in any form will be helpful for the understanding of the entire phenomena, which I think is what Sins-Imp was getting at. <p

Actually, I just went looking through a few older charts.... it looks like capitals have been at 100% for awhile. Also, it shows capitals as doing 100% vs light armor, which is wrong. Never noticed it before, but I think thats a mistake in that picture, not a change by the developers. It looks like the Pirate ship that used to have an anti-module attack type now has an anti-medium attack type. Interesting....

I dont really type anything in. The excel file pulls the data directly from the game files, so I doubt that its a typo. However, it does pull the data via long crazy formulas. These formulas do not get changed, but lets see... DamagePercentBonus:CAPITALSHIP:CapitalShip 1 so... yeah, its 100% of the base damage. Earlier in this post, leadhead mentioned that anti-very-heavy vs capital damage needed to be updated. It should be 60%, right? Always happy to check that i

the way it should work is that if you have for example, replaced the TEC scout with.... I don't know.... a Super Star Destroyer... you would have to actually replace it in the update. So I believe it would be asking for techfrigatescout.entity, and you would then go to your mod folder and find the dastardlyempiresuperstardestroyerscout.entity. Do not mix capitals with frigates.... I was just being humorous in this example. I does not matter that the files are .en

you know, it doesnt look 100% TEC.... It might just be the color throwing me off a bit... but it looks like it is very old. I wonder if the catch with Titans is that its like an artifact? or somehow involves them? Maybe if you discover an artifact and do some research (higher-tier), you can discover the location of a damaged Titan ship, which you then bring to a capital factory (or maybe build some kind of new temp starbase around it) to repair and repurpose. That would take
