I just finished a 3 player (1 of each race, 2 AIs, I was Advent) game that was interesting. My opponents had a better start then I, and quickly had me on the ropes. Then I got some missions from green as red attacked me. I unintentionally completed the mission by killing off reds' ships. I was able to repel the assault (it was pretty pathetic, actually, but my scouts showed a red vs green battle elsewhere). A little while later, almost the same thing occurs, but with the

I've been thinking about mines.... and I might have an idea: The way it is now, everyone knows exactly where the mines are, and they can just go around them. Sometimes, you even think of some crazy smart manuever to avoid them, but the dumb pathfinding takes you through the minefield anyhow and you take significant damage for something you purposely were avoiding. The trouble with mines is that you pay for your manuevering mistakes 10 fold, but overall the minefields are e

I agree with the collective concienceness =/= mind control, and here's how I see that happening: I dont believe they've really explained the level of this collective concienceness. When you see a member of the advent, is that person being controlled by everyone else in the advent race? or is it like a person with a cell phone where they constantly have a connection to everyone else and loads of data at their fingertips, but can ignore it? I think the latter. Now, for example, if the u

Ok, here is the 'issue' with your first couple of posts: If by 'not rendering the room your not in', you mean dont render the solar systems you havent discovered yet, I dont think theres much of an issue. Sure the computer opponents are doing stuff over there, but thats easy to simulate and not render. However, when you do discover that area, you still have to render the old area, so now the overall area is bigger, and you run into the system's limitation (which is hardly

my money is on 3 ships that are functionally the same, but vastly different abilities to round out the factions. My guess right now is an anti- bomber class ship, but the abilities will be completely different between each faction (like, for example darvin's suggestions, but just the abilities). this way, bombers are taken care of, and factions are balanced simultaneously.

I had an idea similar to this awhile back. I had thought diplomacy would add this type of thing, and suggested that you could essentially be offensive without using fleets/military tree by getting culture going early and using it to acquire neutral worlds. Also, the envoys would either enhance the allegiance affect of your culture or deter the allegiance affect of an enemy. Culture wouldn't be the only thing you used to acquire neutrals, you'd need envoys to get you some diplomatic in

In honor of making the sticky, I've been secretly working on this at work where we have excel. So the Excel Macro is back, and it does update by importing txt files again (provided you have converted the binaries to .txts), and its updated with the Diplomacy 1.2 stuff. There are a couple other tweaks, I think, since the last version (I say I think because I've been using it for awhile now, but might not have updated the online version). The most notable of which is part of the

I would like to actually use the fleet mechanic. The issue is with new ships arriving. If I have 2 fleets at a system, and a new ship is sent to that planet, it will auto-join one of those 2 fleets, even if you didnt want it to. Which one it joins seems to be completely random. I would think that a fleet formation option could be made that changes this behavior. also, if I set the rally point to a specific ship, if the new ship auto-joins anything, it should auto-join the fl

Not entirely relevent to the question, but I waver back and forth about the usefullness of this research. Its cheap, but has 3 levels. It doesnt take long to do 1 upgrade, but then again I usually dont have civil labs but for a bit in the begining (for arctic colonies) and I'm too busy with other research. When I do have the time, Im mostly done with research.

I have an idea. What if you could get free techs like you get a free capital ship? say that each time you go up a tech level, you get 1 free tech. If you were to scrap a research station and then build it again, you wouldnt get a free one. This could help encourage more tech experimenting and would help fill in the gaps of those barren tech levels (advent civil tree, anyone?). I would also say it should be 1 free across all trees, otherwise the free part becomes too much. So, for exam
How far along in the game are you? A few things studdering wise I noticed is pirates when they go back home build up and build up. Thus increasing CPU/Memory usage. Yall might wanna give them a timer so they self pop after completeting a mission and returned to base after so long. We did that in DS to help curve studdering and late game lag.
Far enough that fleets and cash are pretty big, but I myself am at the 4th f

I just think that first raid is too much. I still dont think it's intended to be that strong either as every single game I've played the first raid was on the guarded level. I believe the first raid, unless a huge load of cash is dumped into bounty, should be on the low level. I'm not sure what is in the low level raids, but I'd like to find out rather than always get the higher raid and wiping my fleet on them. Now, I could see how you might make the case for later levels b
It's my understanding that this isn't possible. Lower texture resolution settings aren't often separate textures in the game files, they're just downscaled from the maximum-resolution file when they're loaded.
How about making it like an install switch? I remember alot of older games giving you choices of what texture packs to install. I'd again like to emphasize that the textures are my only issue here. And

well, I guess you can take Yarlen's statement on that in a few different ways. I took it as: When playing Rebellion, you wont be missing things that other players who are playing Rebellion have due to them owning Trinity as well, not as: all .exe's todate will be included

I dont know about bombers being a counter to a titan -class ship... Putting aside the argument about bombers being OP at the moment, it makes little sense for such tiny ships to be the counter. Sure, in Star Wars , Luke takes out the Death Star with a fighter, but its not like he did it by shooting the crap out of it. He did it by following a plan that made the Death Star destroy itself (chain reaction in the reactor). In fact, I would argue that titan -class s

... As far as we know. I havent seen anything official on this yet, so: For an extreme example: say Rebellion gets all the new stuff integrated and balance, except for scouts. well, then it wouldn't have scouts. its something thats in the original and not in Rebellion (in this hypothetical case). One thing I would expect to definately change would be research trees; some things will probably move a bit or be removed. Envoys potentially will be removed or greatly changed. Botto

I still am not comfortable with reducing texture sizes. First, do textures really make a difference in the system ram? wouldn't all the textures be on the g-card? if so, then I dont see this as addressing the issue where systems slow due to the 2gb limit. If that's not why you want to do this, but because not everyone has a spiffy g-card, then add the lower res textures to the lower video settings. IIRC, there are several texture resolution settings, so just stick the lower res t

The pirates still feel too strong early on, maybe the first raid comes a bit fast as well. Later game feels pretty good. If you can survive that first onslaught. I was getting some lag in a 5v5 huge map after all had pretty big fleet sizes. It wasnt too bad. I forgot to check the RAM. I'll take a look at that tonight as I didn't finish the game.

Alright, so one of the confirmed features that I dont think anyone has speculated on that much: Rebel/loyalist versions of ships. Obviously, there are certain benefits and certain weaknesses for these versions. I'd also guess that there are themes for the new faction that go through the new versions. So, for example, I would imagine that the Rebel TEC faction wouldn't have quite as strong of an economy (just my opinion), so maybe the Rebel ships cost more or take up more supply, but i
Check out Star Wars: Requiem at Sins.Imperial.cc It's got Interdictor cruisers and starbases for each race. Plus sweet Star-Destroyers.
