Yeah, I've played other multiplayer rts games so I have a sense of that. But I know from those games that if I can't beat the AI on hard, which is really easy compared to humans, I'm in for a buttkicking online. :)

This is common to pretty much every multiplayer rts. As soon as you make civs different, there are imbalances. It's just impossible really to balance apples and oranges. Relative strength is about all you can tweak so something isn't grossly overpowered.

I play as the Vasari and am starting to play vs. the hard AI 1on1 in preparation for trying a few online games. I feel like colony rushing may be a good way to play the Vasari, but I'm looking for tips. I'm thinking that the first cap has got to be the colonizer because how are you going to defend your colonizer frigate all the way across the star system? Right? The problem though is that the colonizer capship is not as strong so then don't you run into problems vs.

If you don't build a scout (or some other non-capship unit) to check out the surrounding planets then, unless there is only one route out of your homeworld, you risk sending your cap to a volcanic/ice planet first instead of the asteroid. This results in 1 of 2 scenarios: 1) You go back to the homeworld and try another route out meaning you just wasted valuable time doing nothing but travelling back and forth 2) You clear the volcanic/ice planet, but can't settle it yet becaus

I play as the Vasari I used to go for the colonizer cap all the time. But now I've been going with the battleship and it's been paying dividends because I like having a powerful late-game battleship. I play on large/single/random map against 6 AIs in ffa. So I start with a battleship cap and colonizer frigate. Later when I get the colonizer cap as my 3rd cap (siege cap is 2nd for me) then I can expand on two fronts if I want, using the colonize ability and my previous colo

I don't think anyone has really mentioned subverters in this thread. They are awesome when combined with phase missile units (e.g., kanraks)

Right now I'm playing large/single/random map against 6 AIs ffa. I'm not sure what "use phase stabilizers and connect your front-line worlds" means? Sounds like something I would like to do, but I don't know that part of the game yet. I haven't tried returning armada yet as I am focusing more on the earlier game stuff at this point. thks for the feedback!

As a vasari player I don't send out LFs to say take over the nearby asteroid. I slap down a military lab and go for kanraks instead, letting my cap ship (easily) take the asteroid by itself.

Ok, well I've been playing against the comp for almost a week now and I think things have finally come together for me as the Vasari. Here's my new approach that worked really good last night: -I start off with the 2 scouts and a colonizer at my frigate factory. I build a cap factory that makes the battleship cap and then I scuttle the factory (I used to always build the colonizer cap, but I am finding a high-level battleship to be much better in the long run on the maps I

rule of thumb in rts games is that more units is better because the % increase given in the upgrades is usually fairly low.

Rule of thumb: Don't build military upgrades until you have enough ships to make it worthwhile Another rule of thumb: When considering economic upgrades thing of how long it will take to get a return on your investment. If the time to return is long and you need it now, then wait I'm new to this game (though not to strategy gaming) and I am finding that taking over and improving planets is important for your credit income. Using whichever ship has the ability to grab neutral

ah, ok, that makes sense to me now. i was thinking of "counter" like flaks kill LRMs but they're more of a "LRMs can't kill me" counter. i read in another thread though that LRMs do alright against flaks because of their range, etc. and how does the kanrak's phase missile damage do against flaks? thks

I've had the game now for a few days and am playing as the Vasari. I have moved up to playing on hard vs. the AI. After playing a bunch of starts and reading most everything here on the forums, here are my thoughts so far. Please let me know if I am completely off my rocker here: I feel like the Vasari are more of a "rushing" civ with their ability to access kanraks fairly easily, their scouts able to grab neutral minerals, and their trade ports a long ways of

I am a new player so please keep that in mind, but I don't understand why you say that flak counter LRM? In the manual under Garda Flak Frigate it says: "Against larger targets, like frigates, the Garda stands little chance". I also see nothing about the flak (besides good armor) that suggests it is designed to counter LRMs. The manual says the primary role of Flak is "Anti-Fighter/Bomber Escort". Besides going to cruisers or spamming your own LRMs (or your unique strat here) I'm n

AH...yes, I also noticed in my most recent game after posting this that the scout had the ability. I swear it didn't have it when I looked before though, lol?! Is there an upgrade that enables it or did I just miss this little tidbit? Thanks!

I'm a new Vasari player as well and I'm very interested in the experienced players' responses. Right now I've just become able to beat 1 normal AI on a small random map, but I wouldn't say I have much in the way of strategy yet. I seem to tend toward booming and expanding to other planets fairly rapidly. Basically, I try and expand to planets rapidly and build up their economies by upgrading the planets and building trade posts and research facilities with minimal defenses (usually 1 gunpost)

Ok, so it seems to me that the Advent have the missionary vessel that lets them be able to mine the metals/crystals pretty easily, but that the Vasari don't have an equivalent ability on their colonizer frigate? I was trying to figure it out last night and I researched a few techs that seemed related to this ability in the industry section, but I couldn't in the end figure out how to mine/access these resources. If someone could let me know how to do this I would appreciate it.&

Howdy, After reading a lot of positive reviews about this game I picked it up this afternoon. I've played it for about 5 hrs now and would love any feedback you might have to help me improve. I played through the tutorials and after struggling a bit with the camera controls I think I've got to the point where I've got a very rudimentary handle on the game. I've got one game going right now on a small map vs. 1 normal AI and I've got control of 4 planets and have a pr
